- Hapless plumber Billy has always struggled with gambling - he claims it's under control, but with bills and repossession notices piling up, his wife Michelle is close to breaking point. Billy has had to sell his van to pay off debts, and is getting by on small plumbing jobs. Even then Billy can't help himself - he gambles the money a customer gave him for parts, and ends up having to steal a pair of taps from the betting shop toilets to complete the job. Even his mate Dave won't lend him any money - he's on the ropes.

@@CARLIN4737 Absolutely. It's such a destructive habit. I replaced my gambling addiction with work. It's destructive as well but not as bad. Other friends replaced theirs with exercise and it's slowly destroyed their bodies.

The guy who wrote this was a genius I've gambled all my life and I've had the ups but mostly downs lost 2 homes near ly lost my family the on street book makers should be abolished but on line gambling is even worse you can lose a. months wages in one afternoon in the comfort of your home please stop it's only when you got fuck all left and the ballives arrive you realise it's to late
It is all so sad. I do not have a gambling problem, but I can see how someone could become addicted to it. This is one of the better movies I have seen about the issue. There is an American movie called, "Going for Broke" as well as another one, "Lucky Girl."

If it isn't only possible once per year (or, whatever... just an example...) it seems it wouldn't be too shabby of a bonus, additional pocket change every few months or so for someone w/zero interest in gambling; not seeking to experience a thrill, exciting event, fun entertainment, or chasing a momentary endorphine "high" from placing the bet (& hpflly winning)?

Billy bets too much and can’t afford to pay the electricity bills. He even cheats a customer and gives a pair of used taps that he stole from the bookies, then he plays the pokies and gets cross at losing and then thumps the machine in frustration. Only then people start to see the loser in his personality

What a stupid addiction makes no sense to me. I understand hard drugs, but this?
Try watching "Lucky Girl," "Playing to Win" or "Going for Broke." All of these movies showcase "regular" people who self destruct because of gambling. It is so sad. The lengths that people go to in order to preserve their habit is just so sad. I do hope that you are able to find these movies because it shows what gambling can do to people and those around them. I think that some of the movies are on one of my playlists, if you want to take a look.
I have watched this particualr programme before and although they never mention a child, I do recall that there were child-like drawings attached ot the fridge. Whatever the case, gambling seems like such a destructive habit.
