  • These two lights are reported to have a lux at 1m that is alarmingly close. What is going on here?

ok... but how did you go from 99,000 lux at 1 meter, but later when tested you say they are 13,000 lux? and 3700 lux in a softbox (of course softbox will be less) . is the hard reflector really increasing the light by almost 10 times?

      Hi azny,
I guess we can't expect everyone to just take our word for it, but we thought a live test would make for a tedious video. We do have many more figures available on our Strobepro Power Scale, and some of those results are not what one would expect. To provide a relevant example, the LA200D actually does manage to outclass some older 300W lights. In our softbox test, it was about on par with the VL300.

So anyway, I hope the few "upsetting" results that we share lends a bit to our credibility. Obviously, we do sell this stuff, so I can understand your skepticism. But our business philosophy has always been to give our customers exactly what they need. Overselling is not good if we want customers to shop with us more than once!

What would be the benefit to using Godox SL200IIIBI vs LA200BI?

The SL200iiiBi has a bit of a tougher build, and a nice yoke mount. It is quite a bit larger, and caries a larger heatsink which inevitably means quieter performance (though we are still impressed the LA200Bi in that category). The SL200iiiBi is a monolight, meaning there is no external power brick to carry with you, so that gives it a portability advantage in one sense (despite its much large body).
The LA200Bi is still the budget king! If you are just looking for 200 watts on a modern LED chip, it's an easy recommendation.
If you are considering the SL200iiiBi, you could opt for the SL300iiiBi instead. It uses the same body and has an extra half-stop of power for not too much more money. Initially, we only stocked the daylight version, but we are bringing Bi-Colour models in our upcoming shipment.
