- Join Derek from One River Tea as we dive deep into the historical birthplace of black tea: Tongmuguan. Located on the borders of Fujian and Jiangxi, this wild and mountainous area is a tightly controlled Nature Reserve and outsiders are not allowed in. Well, not without a local guide. Join us as we follow Bieber Zhang to her home up in Masu Village, some 1200 meters above main Tongmuguan. Here we uncover the secrets of why this area is so well preserved, why their teas are beyond comparison in the rest of the world, and how exactly they create such a strong yet sweet smoked black tea in the Zhengshan Xiaozhong, or Lapsang Souchong.

Great video can't wait to taste my Lapsang Souchong !
The Masu Village really makes some of the best Lapsang out there!

Fantastic. Thank you posted this video. Yours might be the only video on making smoked tea.
This. Had to look around quite a bit, so this is very valuable information!
Beautiful video, I was drinking smoked tea while watching your video!
Thanks for sharing!
Going to visit the rural and authentic China, is one of my wishes since a few years now, almost the Guizhou region! I hope I'll do it once!🙏
Best wishes!🍀
We welcome you to visit us in China! We have a small cabin and tea garden in rural Hubei, hope to get some WWOOFers out there soon!
While the smoked variety is way too smokey for me i still love seeing the process
Give this traditional processed stuff a try if you haven’t yet! We also only sell it after it’s rested a year. The fresh tea sometimes has too much smoke on top, but after a year it sinks into the tea and becomes very mineral sweet!
