And it was one of the biggest mistakes we had ever made !! We had to return to our home here in Jamaica .And now seeing this and seeing how much money we wasted in the state and to see the quality of life and opportunities that it could have given us it’s just crushing!! • @Mary2020VA
      @Mary2020VA Před 2 lety +8

      I've always wondered why South Africans say "Black South Africans?" South Africa is over 90% Black, you are the majority, and when one says South African, the understanding should be, that they are referring to Black South Africans. Whites in the U.S. don't say "White Americans," they simply say American, and the same is true for Europeans. When they are the majority in a nation, they only use hyphenated names for those who are not in the majority, i.e. African American, Latino American, Asian American, Native American, etc.
      Please explain why you have to call yourself a Black South African and not simply South African. The minorities in your country should be referring to themselves as European South Africans, Asian/Indian South Africans, etc, etc...

    • @baphithi
      @baphithi Před 2 lety +1

      @@Mary2020VA everyone gets a hyphen here. It’s our constitution, equality, ubuntu, and all those things. We even have debates about whether people of European descent can regard themselves as Africans. Some do, most really don’t feel at home in western countries where they are expected to be a certain way as opposed to chilled, or where they get the side eye for being beneficiaries of apartheid. So everyone feels indigenised in South Africa - even if not in Africa in the sense of being black, including the racists. It’s what makes the country so cool to visit, in the 2020s. The 20th century was a whole different story and you would not have liked it much, but over the years the non-indigenous people have been evolving ever so painfully slowly towards a common and unique identity. A sizable chunk of those that don’t like the change have emigrated overseas, and often find themselves returning “home” after a few years.

    • @siyabonganxumalo4574
      @siyabonganxumalo4574 Před 2 lety +6

      @@Mary2020VA Wee Mary, what is done in America does not necessarily have to be done in South Africa. What Europeans do in America or in Europe does not have to be done in South Africa. Europeans are not superior beings that set precedents for everything, people should be allowed to do what they believe is right even if its against the norm.
      We are South Africans, we are accommodating, this is our nature.

    • @palesamogorosi8939
      @palesamogorosi8939 Před 2 lety +4

      Because we are Black South Africans and that's simply it. With our Apartheid history, you should know by now that we have racial classifications in this country and we can't just call ourselves South Africans because that lumps in all the other races such as the Coloureds, Indians, Asians or Whites. When we speak exclusively of people with African descent, we refer to them as Black. This doesn't have anything to do with being a minority or majority. We just do that. We also have the likes of something as Black Economic Empowerment, which is a form of affirmative action, and Black Business Council or Black whatnot. If you live in South Africa you will come across these kinds of things a lot. It's common. Being he majority doesn't change our racial classification.

      @@siyabonganxumalo4574 I do not understand your response. Asians would never allow anyone to label them as anything other than Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc. in their own native countries. @Jade Singleton He is not arrogant not because he is American, he is arrogant because he presumes to belong here, just because his ancestors came from some place five thousand kilometers away. He does not understand that he is a foreigner, it is not his right to be here. He has no innate superiority over people who live here, where he can dictate what we should do. He has to earn that, it is not something that should be given just because he wants it.
      It is unfortunate that many Americans think like him (not all). That is why the stereotypical American is disliked in so many countries. They should try being humble when they are a guest in someone else's house. Most people don't like a self entitled foreigner. The sad thing is they don't understand why, which is also part of the problem.

    We South Africans are the only nation in Africa where an American visitor can look and fiquire out, adore his or her Africanicity.
    African Americans in particular seem to be in par with what the The real South Africa's ambition comes with it. They seem to fit in any space mend to augment the lives as Africans in a broader spectrum.
    It helps them to sooth their yearn and to find their exact Africaness. Thank you Mark and Dr Latasha for coming up with this idea of bringing our Melenin back to were it belongs.
    I have never heared or seen any negativity from us the rainbow nation. Our love for African Americans comes naturally.

    Very honest, insightful conversation. That's why it's called the Matrix. Being outside the country looking in puts so much into perspective. People who were born & raised in the US but have never traveled internationally really don't understand. Their only reference is the biased 📺 which causes the misperceptions.

    It is so beautiful to see black beautiful young couples raising their own. Crawford is one of the best schools and $8000 is a lot but not really that much for US earners. How about you let the kids come escape gun violence, police brutality, racism and bias by making sure they study in Private Schools like Curro, Crawford, Bishops, etc. The best schools are actually in KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Obviously Pretoria where Elon Musk studied and many best schools in Johannesburg and Pretoria. I tell you. Peace of mind vibes

    • @mkdempisi
      @mkdempisi Před 2 lety

      $8000 is a lot of money, that's almost double Wits University tuition fee. Maybe it is because I don't have a child yet and broke 😂 but that's a lot of money

    • @preciousone86
      @preciousone86 Před 2 lety

      $8000 for a US earner is absolutely a lot. Lol. However if you value your children’s education and elect to pay for schooling, you make a sacrifice. In the US, that sacrifice would end up being more like $30K for the same type of great education. So for them to say it was a good deal is because they were used to having to pay a lot more. This couple are not average American earners. The average American doesn’t send their child to private school. Public School is free and that’s where more children go. I say all that to say that for a US earner, $8000 is still a lot.
