I've always loved the parralel. On the other side of the galaxy, Vader is murdering every single separatist in cold blood. But Palpatine is doing the real damage here, only with words.
I like how it shows what the Empire is presented to people(Palpatine's speech) and what it really is behind the curtains(Darth Vader slaughtering the separatist's leaders)
Indeed They're the two sides of the Empire (two sides of the same coin). While Palpatine speaks to the masses and politicians, Vader is the one who crushes all opposition. Palpatine is the speaker, and Vader is the hammer
+matty9460 I'm honestly very conflicted on this. His Emperor voice seemed a bit over-acted compared to his performance in ROTJ, which seemed much more slimy and sinister. Maybe it was an intentional choice because this is supposed to be Palpatine 20 years younger? Or perhaps Ian's voice hasn't aged well and he couldn't quite pull off the same qualities of ROTJ. In any case, I found his emperor act to be... "too much" at times.
+EnDSchultz1 I think it was intentional. You can't sound slimy and sinister when you're trying to fake charisma to win votes. ROTJ was Palpatine being his true self. ROTS (holy shit I just realized the initials mirroring each other) was him acting like he was following the best interests of the Republic. Look at how he talks to Anakin when he turns. That's much closer to how the real Sidious sounds like.
so many good parts in the prequels so stop underrated these good movies please, they are not masterpieces but very good movies compared to the movies we have today.
For someone who is married to and impregnated by a Jedi, Padme doesn't seem to concerned about the whole "Jedi Rebellion" part that Palps just glossed over...
Messaprentis* When messa is followed by a word that begins with a vowel in gungan, the words are conjoined, sometimes changing the _a_ to another letter, such as with “messoffended by racial stereotypes.”
I can only imagine the sheer exhilaration and ecstasy of triumph Palpatine must have felt in that moment - decades of training under Plageuis and eventually deceiving and killing him to become the ruling Lord of the Sith, along with decades of living as a benevolent politician whilst orchestrating mind-boggling conspiracies and intergalactic war - all of that, and now he has finally achieved what the Sith have sought for millennia since the time of Bane, and eons further back since the original Schism in the Jedi Order that made the Sith from the Dark Jedi exiles....
And whats more, the people love it. THEY ADORE IT. The Glee that he has gotten billions of people to rally against the jedi. He's run a perfect god damn game for nearly 40 ish years and he's set to do a victory lap for another 20 as the emperor. It's probably taking all of his restraint to keep him from skipping around that podium clicking his heels. Everything has payed off. All the near misses all the perilous jobs. everything is done. There is nothing left to do for him to do but drive the future imperial senate into the ground so he can possess complete autonomy and focus on that immorality business. because that would arguably be easier than the bullshit he had pulled to get here... But then the death star happend....
Roswynn One of the best and most important lines in Star Wars, in my opinion. I hate when people disparage the prequels for dealing with politics and trade disputes and all that... without those, what is the point of a war at all? Additionally, I posit to you that this is the only way that liberty dies, when the tyranny is approved by the masses. If only the average viewer cared about allegory...
@@cloudwatcher608 Fuck yeah, totally agreed on that, if you see even just historical dictators 99% had been elected by popular vote with barely a struggle and with moltitudes of supporters ready to die for the cause (and I'm dodging the current situation of course, anyways). As for the prequels, I've never actually met fans disparaging them for the politics as much as for some stilted acting, some - wait ONE VERY STUPID CHARACTER and a couple other problems that are actually consistent with a cinematographical point of view, but I agree that if politics is the reason one doesn't like the prequels... tough shit buddy, it's all quite riveting stuff. Again, from a cinematographic view point, I think. It's got its reasons and it's well done, even superb at times. Padme's line is a fuckin' classic in my humble opinion. They used (and have always used actually) a cool escapist action franchise to pointedly comment on very real sociopolitical forces/movements that are not going away anytime soon, really. If that's not brilliant I don't know what to tell the disgruntled fans.

@@dancegod1691 Okay, yeah, I can get behind that. I agree they can often be boring, sometimes the writing is mediocre and the directing isn't much better. Naboo in episode 1 is a mid rim planet and even when asking or help and telling of the trade federation’s treachery and army, their lobbylist and the senate not only refused to help but didnt even put forth an investigation.
The Jedi council even refused to budge except letting two Jedi intertwined handle it, not even sending a third party to investigate themselves.

Good & evil only really meant things to force wielders, the Jedi and Sith saw the black and white nature/physics of the universe through the Light and Dark sides of the force. Normal everyday people didn't see the world like that and even often dismissed this viewpoint as myth or fairytale, same as their denial in the Force.

Ian mcdiarmid's acting is by far the best part of the prequels

Man you make me want to be the guy that had his attractiveness go into the negatives.
@@cloudwatcher608 The whole operatic plot arch was perfectly fine in concept, it just made for REALLY boring movies. There's a lot of nostalgia tied up in these movies for me too but you gotta take a step back and realize they're just badly written and directed.
@@roswynn5484 The main issue is that the scripts were slapped together by George Lucas without much outside input or criticism. He wrote the script like it was a book, and tried to translate it to screen without really understanding how story-telling in movies works. The result is a story that's epic on paper and in concept, but just really boring to actually watch.
@@dancegod1691 Okay, yeah, I can get behind that. I agree they can often be boring, sometimes the writing is mediocre and the directing isn't much better. In particular I find the plots a bit convoluted sometimes, and the character of Anakin most of the time has very badly written dialogue, with Hayden Christensen doing a half-hearted job.
