  • In 2024, SpaceX aim to send the first humans to Mars. This will be the very beginning of Elon Musk’s goal to start a self sustaining colony on Mars. This video looks at how the first Martians will establish a base on Mars and how they will create rules and laws in order to grow the base into a thriving city.

I remember reading somewhere that the protection needed from radiation is the biggest hurdle of the whole mission. We already have traveled and landed on Mars. So in order to protect humans from Gamma Rays the protective layer would be 13 feet of water, 6 feet of concrete and or 1 and a half feet of lead. Could be a tough build.

RE: Lunar Pressure Vessel Construction System
Based on baking Apollo dirt in a typical microwave into a brick => grains are mix of dielectric, electret, resistive, permeable & insulative so it's structural if one bakes it properly.
Works on Earth dirt, asteroids, likely anything nearby, tools then do irrigation, roads, retaining walls.
Seeing this, they can isolate Neveda test fallout from groundwater or ablation in situ, no digging.
Outer walls can be 'glass' skins, no gasses pass, and with that a dependence on electricity was key.
This 1300hp/1-Mw genset uses magnets that decay 10%/1000yrs to do the job, "50yr no-inputs warranty", normal upkeep, ships in a container, military-spec, they're adapting the motor to aircraft drones.
Why are solar panels & batteries en vogue? The mechanical & volume complexity needs, the 1300hp is small,2'x7"/61x17cm, a genset is a genset, theirs is sparkless for use with explosives: technokontrol.com/en/current-projects/generator.php
My most recent work on firefighting hovercraft no prop-wash, no recharge/refuel on station 24×7 can use a fluid-impulse motor.

For me, as soon as the Martian colonies become self-sufficient, they will reclaim their total independence from Earth, and
in a matter of few decades, Mars will grow rapidly in technology and economic development. why I think this? If we take into account that these colonies will initially be made up of people intellectually far superior to the average Earthling, it is quite predictable. Another important factor could be the lower gravity, this would make their buildings easier and cheaper to build, the vehicles will need less fuel to cover the same distances as here on earth (making trade and transport easier), and the space exploration carried out from Mars and the subsequent exploitation of the solar system resources would be much more economically feasible than that carried out directly from earth.

Honestly I feel like if we need to make rules to conquer another planet, to avoid conflicts within the same crew members, then we failed miserably as a species. If I launch from Earth, go through a 6 months flight in outerspace, only to reach another planet such as Mars and start fighting with my crew, then how dumb am I? Also, once up on there, they'll need to survive before they thrive, so, there should be no need for rules based on the only principle that you're not supposed to do anything wrong in the first place, because whoever helps you up there, is also helping themself. Also, since we'll know who the exact "martians" are going to be, every decision on enforcing a law could be reported to Earth and dealt with who decides the law on Mars AND on Earth.
