- Had this installed by a licensed plumber during a new bathroom installation. The plumber didn't seem to take much of an interest in my complaint, now I have come to realize that my wife has made this tub/shower off limits for my kids due to its loud noise. I paid alot of $ for this bathroom and I hope that Moen will help me make it right.

Update: I went out and purchased a 2nd 1222 cartridge and installed it. That did solve my problem. There is now no noise at all!
I finally fixed mine hopefully permanently. This is a resonance issue and probably gets worse with time due to the plastic cartridge. Moen makes a brass version of the cartridge that stopped it completely. The part number is the same with had on the end. I believe it was 1222HD. It is pricey but not only did it stop the noise completely, but it is super smooth to operate. Hope this helps someone as this drove me nuts for a couple years.
I have the same issue. I bought two cartridges(one original from Moen and one OEM) both plastic and still get the same sound results. Interesting you mention that the 1222HD made out of brass stopped the noise. Since you posted this 1 year ago, has it kept quiet? Is it still working properly with the new brass cartridge?
Ya I’d like an update to this also
@@skyline5354 it did keep it near-silent for a while. Some sound did come back after a year, but it was never as bad as with the plastic cartridge. It was tolerable. I no longer own the house so can't put a dB meter on it or anything.
I have the same Moen Banbury faucet and mine has sounded just like yours since new.
Same problem here. Had a moen for 25 years and no problems. Shower started leaking so I replaced the cartridge and now I have notice between 1 am and 11 pm (for reference) with my handle. Before or after those numbers it is quiet. I am going to try a second new cartridge.
I had the exact same problem, in the exact same place on the selector. Solution, you have a bad insert valve. Home Depot carries the OEM MOEN part, but it's expensive. They have the cheaper DANKO parts, but you get what you pay for so pick up 2, you're going to need them. I use a 1222 cartridge. Change it, takes 5 minutes and pretty easy just turn your main water line off first, duh. New cartridge, no noise. While you're at it, if it's an old downspout, change that too; since they get full of deposits and over time the plastic stopper valve will fail so every 10 years you might want to swap it out, also an easy job, 5 minutes. Just take your time and put everything back on in reverse order, you'll be fine.
what did it ended up being? cartridge?
What was the solution, if any?
I have exact same problem. It is so loud we can’t even talk in room below. Ridiculous. Is it the cartridge? When i removed the tub spout and let water run straight out of copper pipe into tub the noise is almost gone. Seems to me it has something to do with the spout pull valve design. Anyhow SUPER annoying moen. How did you solve?
Replace the valve cartridge. It's a simple job and the results are immediate.
Troubleshooting the same problem at my house. Gonna try either a diverter or cartridge
Ken, how many cartridges does it take to fix? My husband bought one new cartridge at Home Depot; two that Moen sent; still sounds like a jet engine throughout house. It's not a water pressure issue, not a squealing noise or a banging sound, it's just straight up airplane sound while handle is in sweet spot for temperature for tub. Builder grade fixtures were quiet for 17 years until we 'upgraded' to Moen about 2 1/2 years ago. I'm ready to blow my gasket!!! Help! :/
I've changed it 3 or 4 times over the last 7 years.
Thanks, Ken. We'll give it another shot with a new cartridge. I hope it makes a difference. The sound is so loud that we literally can't hear the TV while someone is bathing upstairs. It's ridiculous. I will certainly steer clear of Moen products in the future. Thanks again for your response.
Did you every get the issue resolved? Our handle broke so when we turned on the shower we could never get it off. I replaced the cartridge and it works perfectly, but now when I turn it to hot or higher pressure we get the jet engine sound. Never was an issue before I put in a MEON 1222 cartridge from Home Depot
@@spoonu9 Never did get my issue fixed. Just learned to live with it (after multiple cartridge changes) by not having the hot/cold water mix at optimum. Of course, kids moved out and situation diminished due to reduced use of those upstairs tub faucets. Sorry. Wish I could have been more helpful. Good luck!
@@thelmasue1 thank you for response. It’s so weird. Our handle broke so we couldn’t shut the water off then I put in the new cartridge which fixed the broken handle issue and now right between lukewarm and hot we get the jet engine. If I make the water hot it stops and cold it stops. Swear you fix one thing and then another comes up. Oh well we have someone coming to take a look probably pay $200 to get told it’s fine or we need it try a new cartridge 🤦🏻♂️.
We have a newborn boy and it will be his shower so 18 years of jet engine in my future.
Our 3.5 year old cartridge just started leaking. We had no noise before. We just replaced it with a new one. Now it sounds terrible between the 11 and 1 position. Seems like a common problem with no real fix.
My shower is facing sound problems too after I replaced the old moen with a new one. :(
The solution is to change the cartridge located behind the handle, when it gets noisy... They're readily available and simple enough to change. (Home Depot, Plumbing Supply Store...)
mine didn't make noise till i changed the cartridge is like a squealing
I’m getting this noise after installing the new cartridge!! Old one didn’t.
@@sekharasame. My old one seized up so I replaced it. Now I get noise .... Verified no leaks though. Guess I'll live with it.
My Moen Bathtub Faucet in my Master Bathroom has been doing this for YEARS, and I've never really complained about it because I only use the shower when the noise doesn't happen.
However my Moen Bathtub Faucet in my guest bathroom of my apartment has never had this problem and is almost never used.
I changed the cartridge a year ago and noting got better still the faucet is noisy
Same
Same here. Anyone have any luck??
Same here… no solution yet!
Same here ! Just installed a new cartridge and it sounds like a two-stroke dirt bike at full tilt, lol 😂 anyone figured this out yet ?
cartridge replaced - noise 75% better, 2 years later noise 50% better (than in this video)... Thinking of changing it again...
Replace the tub spout that took the noise of my tub faucet.
exact same problem here
They sell them at Home Depot, and Moen will send a replacement if you contact their customer service. It's an easy repair...
