That friendship, I would say, was among the richer part of population while they sent poor soldiers to raid each other.
      Second thing, Charlemagne and Harun Al-Rashid had common border as we can see in video, but they were divided by Pyrenees, which could been hard to pass but not that much for an army which was commited. I would say that they were friends because both of them had to focus on other enemies beside on and other. But, maybe their love to knowledge was part of it, why not.

    You should add a final comment about how the Americans rained destruction on Baghdad while bringing 'freedom' to Iraq in the two Gulf Wars. Their final invasion led to the looting of the National Museum of Iraq which housed many treasures and cultural artifacts. Also, the invasion led to large-scale damage to the city, including the destruction of the zoo, massive sanitation problems, and transportation problems after the subway closed and the Americans divided the city up into Green Zones and such. It's funny how American wars to bring peace and freedom usually end up in death, destruction, and misery for those they are supposed to be helping.

      President Bush and the media barons deceived and mislead the American people into war, exploiting the public’s fear and anger over the attacks on New York City and D.C. If Al-Gore had won in 2000 instead of Bush, the war likely wouldn’t have happened and Iraq would still be ruled by Saddam.

    Brilliant video as always but 1 thing that isn't highlighted as much about golden age Baghdad is that scholarship of mathematics, science and literature were not the only forms of knowledge that advanced in that time but also the Islamic sciences and the religious figures like Imam Musa Qazim, Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Ghazali and Shaykh Abdul Qadir among others who contributed greatly to the scholarship of theology, Philosophy and Spirituality.

    • @hydrolifetech7911
      @hydrolifetech7911 Před 2 měsíci +5

      Am a Muslim myself but I have to tell you religious sciences is not a thing. The brand of theology some of those later imams started to spread were against mathematics and science. This was catastrophic for Muslim world which regressed in knowledge culminating in the subjugation and plunder by European powers. Look at the current state of the Arab world and tell me whether the theology, philosophy and spirituality spread by those Imams advanced Islam and the world.

    • @Shahking704
      @Shahking704 Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@hydrolifetech7911 So the first point is religious sciences is a thing. It's just not science as in the stufy of the natural world, its the study of the religion. The modules include tafseer of the quran, Hadith, Arabic language, jurisprudence and others.
      The second thing is all of the people in the golden age who advanced science like ibn Haytham, Ibn Sina or Al Khwaresmi all had a foundation of Islamic learning in all of those modules I just explained. It may not have have been extensive but it was a foundation nonetheless.
      Thirdly your going to have to be specific with which of the later imams your referring to. Imam Musa Qasim is a direct decendant of the prophet Muhammad, Imam Abu Hanifa specialised in Islamic Jurisprudence to the point where most Muslims in the world follow his methodology. Imam Al Ghazalis teachings do clash with scientific advancement but that's because he was looking at it at the religion from a purely spiritual perspective and referring to the over indulgence of the state in scientific affairs and not concentrating on its people.
      Shaykh Abdul Qadir is the most revealed spiritual Saint in South Asia and parts of the Middle east for his teachings on spirituality.
      My point is the scholars of religion did not directly influence the decline of the pusute of the natural sciences but a series of other factors.
      I understand your point about the state of the Arab world but blaming that on a lack of scientific advancement is quite frankly naive aswell historically inaccurate. The ottomon empire focused more on spirituality and expansion rather than science yes but the Arab decline is due to further external factors and colonisation.
      Harun ar Rashid focused on learning and wanted Greek philosophy, indian mathematics, African history, Chinese medicine all to be translated Into Arabic but where did that get them in the end nowhere, the mongols came and destroyed it all. The arabs couldn't recover from that and neither did a leader come again who wanted to focus on that.
      The only state in the middle east focused on any kind of scientific development is the UAE because it has the money to do so, everyone else is too worried about survival amid war, sanctions and other problems.

Qatahba was the main general leading carried majority abbbasid revolt battles took persia and iraq from abbasid and final battle known as battle al zab was lead by another arab abdallah ibn ali such as chrincole of 757 and islamic sources confiremed it was abdallah no mention of abu muslim like al tabari in his book history of al tabari vol 7 page 432 and ibn kathir book Al Bidaya wan Nihaya vol 13 page 254 and 255and many historians agreed and wikipdia is not realiable sources menioned name abu muslim in battle of zab in wikipdia page made by iranian probganda
      Lets jump how umayyad was fell during thrid fitna occured 745 the princes of umayayd cousin was fought each other in throne and conflicts rivlary between al Qays and Yaman fighting each other in khoursan and iraq, although marwan managed to kill 3 princes fighting in throne Al Walid II and yazid III and ibrahim who caused fitna and people of levantine was getting upest due umayyad goverment drove into corruption, when marawn was unable to end internal conflicts he decided to abandon damascus capital of umayyad that was main power for umayyad and moved capital Harran leaving fitna to be on going till abbasid took advantage established their revolution in 747 and announcement of establishment their state. not trying down playing marawn was great he leading succesfully champigan aganist khazar and bezntyine and arabs khwarijies but he did mistake but moving capital and leaving fitna on going which on of main reason islamic sources called him " the donkey " if he didn't such stupid thing like that abbasid wouldn't came into existence.

      Firstly the video didn't explain the fall of the ummayads because the video was only about the city of Baghdad as the capital of the Abbasid empire.
      Secondly I commented highlighting the advancement of Islamic knowledge in Baghdad during and after the Abbasid Caliphate.

    This is a magnificent story of innovation collaboration triumph and peace. It's so heartbreaking to hear about the fall of Baghdad at the hands of the Mongols but what is even more heartbreaking is our lack of knowledge about its history. It makes the American and UK invasion of Baghdad even more pointless and disgusting. How ignorant we have been in the west about the history of the Islamic empires and the golden era. It's like a historical treasure that has just been kept a secret and it's only now that we're discovering all these amazing things about these civilisations. Another point I would like to make having studied history at A Level in the UK is how narrow one-sided and ignorant is the history curriculum in the UK shame on the national curriculum Mrs Jones and every other teacher who has failed to teach the beauty and diversity and richness that is our world history.

    I think one of the reason Baghdad and Islamic empire collapsed was mainly due to the fact that Muslims have been of extremely diverse ethnic backgrounds some of whom like Persians , Spanish ,Caucasia ...had strong sense of national identity very distinct languages ( Non-arabic ) and were proud of their own cultural heritage therefore they felt entirely alien to the rest of Muslims and wished Islamic Empire to disintegrate therefore they actually collaborated with the Mongols .

    • @bbnn5621

      I think that's a fair perspective but I think it also goes the other way, Arabic cultural systems meant that those that didn't assimilate found themselves on the outside of the power centers in the Umayyad Caliphate. The Abbasids tried to balance between Arabs and non-Arabs but ended up upsetting everyone, including various Arab groups, some of which revolted back in the 9th century.

    Not necessarily a correction (because strictly speaking it isn't wrong) but rather a clarification: The 1001 Nights was a collection of Persian, Mesopotamian, and possibly Indian fairytales, not Arabic (or at least not in it's first iteration, if there are Arabic tales they were most likely added later). It's first publication was in Middle Persian (Pahlavi) as 'A Thousand Tales'. After the Arabs conquered Persia and other territories, they standardized language to Arabic which meant that a lot of sources of literature from the conquered areas were translated and then originals forgotten. So strictly speaking, yes it's an Arabic collection, in that it is a collection of stories (or the evidence of the singular book already in publication in Persia of Hezār Afsān 'The Thousand Stories' that was originally in Pahlavi and probably compiled in Syria) that was later translated into Arabic for perseverance and language standardization. It's just a small clarification to help clear the misconception that the 1001 Nights are Arabic in source material, rather than the collection of Iranian and Indo-Iranian folklore from the large territory of Persia that the Arabs took over.
