In the 8th century Middle East, a new dynasty seized control of one of the world’s greatest empires - the Islamic Caliphate. Though little remembered in the west today, the Abbasids reigned for five centuries. They oversaw an era of Islamic military dominance... city-building… brilliant scholarship, and technological innovation. It has come to be remembered as Islam’s ‘golden age’. This is the story of the Abbasid Caliphate.

You fools! I'm from the Middle East. I don't know what the nature of Europe and the Westerners is about Islam. You are only focused on the bad things. Islamic and chinese history are honestly some of the most slept on subjects. I recommend researching and maybe finding games on them, they’re amazing
Indeed, Cant wait for AC Mirage
Extremely underrated
Islam preaches death, rape and torture of "infidels" which, on this planet, out number them 10 to 1. So nobody cares about them.
The channel Akhlaq and Izza makes some good content on Islamic histoiry.
They aren't slept on. Western societies study Western history mostly, Eastern societies study Eastern history mostly. You lack perception.
This is so well done and so well told. I'm really happy that you are shedding light on a period of history that is otherwise overlooked.
2 of the best history channels on the tube
@@ItsJustCartier imagine getting trolled
Trolled? Explain, please.
It is overlooked in the west, but in the entire muslim world this is the main part of history we learn about and we tend to overlook western history
real important history too, doubt anyone in the US planning of the invasion of Iraq knew they were invading the old capital of islam's caliphate. woe to the man who doesn't study history!
The famous belle-lettrist Abu Hayyan al-Towhidi (d414/1023) quoted Ebn al-Moqaffa* (d.142/759) as stating the following differences between peoples:
The Persians are masters of politics, civility, rules, and protocols. The Greeks have science and philosophy. The Indians have thought, reflection, discernment and magic, and the Turks have courage and audacity. The Africans have joy, endurance and labour. The Arabs have valour, hospitality, loyalty, heroism, generosity, humour and eloquence.
I really hope this series continues on to the Ottoman Empire. Not nearly enough content about this period, fantastic video as always!
The ottomans alone deserve an entire playlist of videos
They practically shaped world history in such an unbelievable way
They literally fought European Crusaders to ww1 soldeirs
There's a unfortunately lot of misconceptions amongst Muslims academics when it comes to ottomans and their scientific achievements.

The Byzantine Empire looks terrifyingly small compared this juggernaut. It’s amazing they held on to as much territory as they did
Their peak was just insane
At one point the entire world knew of the wealth and flood of knowledge in Baghdad
They're capital exists in the Actual Centre of the silk trade making them the focal point of world trade
Such a vast proliferation of knowledge, wealth and power wouldn't be seen until around the 19th century when the Europeans had managed to make the west the center of learning, wealth and power
Anatolia was too close to the Byzantines power structure and too defensive for the Already Gigantic and stretched Caliphate to invest taking it over annual Raids.
@@tylerellis9097No, the Romans were paying money to the Abbasids 😂😂😂😂
@@user-cg2tw8pw7j They paid tribute some times too yes but this ignores the multiple invasions launched into the Empire by the Caliph himself like the Sack of Amorium and Byzantine Victories like Akroinion or Lalakaon
@@tylerellis9097 When the Romans tried to respond to these raids, there were Slavic slaves in their army, and when they faced the Abbasid army, they joined the Abbasid army and fought the Romans.
This is the best history channel on CZcams. The narration, the editing, the art, the music and the level of research just makes every video a sheer joy to watch!
I second that sentiment ❤
Not they use only narrative from the western side and that perspective. King's and Generals r more neutral
I love them mentioning the Assassins who have inspired the Assassin's Creed series. And the history of the 860s,70s is exactly what we are going to witness soon in the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage!❤
Thats why i have been studying alot for the abbassid empire
When you know the history and then play AC after that setting it just feel next level
Like if you are a teacher and notice every detail alot more 😂😂
Let's hope Mirage delivers on historical accuracy. Loving the setting and time period so far.
@@sahar3820can't bloody wait for mirage. It's going to be epic!
This looks amazing already. There's a thorough video on Arab and Turkic warfare in the later period (11th-14th century) by Schwerpunkt that really deserves as an integration. I'm glad that you've been covering more Islamic warfare in the last couple of months

How do you sustain this? These videos are just simply amazing, and are better than most if not all of the documentaries I have watched. 23:14 Mongol invasion and fall of Baghdad
26:25 End of Abbasid caliphate and Ottoman Empire
Finally it's here! What a truly epic narration of the early Muslim history. I don't typically hear about much of the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates as it's usually always starting with the Ottomans or sometimes hear about the Seljuk Turks and Fatimids during the Crusasdes, but I've always wondered just how the Muslim world came to be and it's often glossed over. And my god, the quote about the Tigris river's waters "running black with ink" from all the books thrown there is such a chilling and badass description. Now I eagerly want to see how you would handle the history of the Mongol Empire from Genghis Khan down to its fall as well. Knowing they were the last Far East Asian power to take on European and Middle Eastern powers until the Japanese's Imperial rise.
But of course, in good time. Thank you so much Epic History for covering this period. I'm excited to resume to the conclusion of Napoleon's campaign in Italy and hope there are more about him to cover such as in Egypt and his plans to take power. Seeing as how, Ridley Scott has produced a full motion picture about him!
Resources are available everywhere if you wanted to spend even 15 minutes looking into history of this region of the world.
Also that quote about Turks in the video: "The Turks have become master of the land, it is better to stay silent and Obey."
the end of Hulagu was terrifying. He died naked in the desert of Iraq, barking like a dog in a state of epilepsy, and he was urinating on himself (as mentioned by Muslim historians).
He suffered a stroke and also from epilepsy after the defeat of Ain Jalut and the series of many heavy humiliating defeats that he suffered in front of his Muslim cousin Berke Khan and the Muslim Golden Horde espeasiclly his defeat at the river of terek where he lost 200,000 of his soldiers who destroyed Baghdad
He was deceived by someone who was serving the Abbasid caliph, and Hulagu trusted this person because he helped him.
Do Muslims not suffer strokes or evacuate themselves on death?
Hulagu was incompetent and not like his ancestors like Genghis. If Genghis was there it will be more catastrophic.
Source? moslem propaganda. Israel has beated moslem forces many times. Why allah doesn't help you now?
The Battle of Manzikert paved way for Crusades and the Turkification of Anatolia which laid the seeds of the Ottoman empire which conquered Constantinople ending Rome and triggering the Age of Discovery which shaped much of the modern world,... A battle can only be this impactful
I believe the age of discovery is mutually exclusive from this series of events. It wasn't so much triggered by the fall of Constantinople as much as it was just the natural consequence of man to expedite, in this case to shorten the silk road by maritime commerce. Also the venetians and genoese had considerably more influence in the western end of silk road than byzantium by the start of the first crusade if not earlier, by the mid 1400's when constantinople fell it was already hundreds of years in decline of influence
@@sedrfghbn The very reason that Europeans explored was to find a new way to India, because they didn't dare and lacked the power to go there through the Turks
@@truthhearer6323That's not true. The Ottomans only required to tax the Europeans, just as the Byzantines before them had done. The Europeans figured they could find alternative trade routes and control them directly. It was just greed.
@@lambert801 But the land route is way smaller than the sea route. Which means that their was a significant tax that made sea route look cheaper.

0:01: 📜 The Abbasid caliphate, which ruled for five centuries, was a period of military dominance, city construction, scholarly brilliance, and technological innovation in the Islamic world.
4:21: 💥 After a year-long bloody siege, the city fell and the caliph was captured and executed. The new caliph, Al-Ma'mun, formed an alliance with the Alids, a powerful family descended from Ali, the fourth caliph and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad. However, this alliance led to major revolts in Baghdad, causing Al-Ma'mun to abandon it and impose new religious doctrines on the caliphate.
8:28: 💥 The IX century saw radical changes in military tactics, including the use of specialized troops armed with petroleum-based weapons and the recruitment of Turkish slave soldiers who became skilled cavalry and archers.
12:36: 💥 The Abbasid caliphate faced internal conflicts and struggles for power, leading to a decade of anarchy and challenges to their authority.
17:24: 💥 The Abbasid authority collapsed in Arabia, with a Shiite group attacking pilgrims and stealing the Black Stone, while Persian dynasties gained independence and the Abbasid caliph became a powerless figurehead.
22:16: 💥 The Abbasid caliphate regained independence in the 12th century but was soon destroyed by the Mongols in the 13th century.
26:31: 💔 The last Abbasid caliph was captured and taken prisoner by the Ottoman Empire, marking the end of their significant political power.

Greatly looking forward to each episode of this series! Muslim conquest and culture is so rich that it’s important for everyone to receive its full human story. Thank you EHT!!! 👏👏
It should be notice and put I context that Al-al-Mu'tasim’s mother was Turkic that’s why he tend to choose them over others. His brother, Al -Ma’mon, was more reliant on Persian because his mother was Persian and he lived in Merv for years. Al-Amin, although was younger, was chosen because of his mother who come from a noble Abassid Arab (Hashmya). In addition to that, she was the one to be associated with Haron El-Rashid in the one thousand and one nights.
Thank you for the info 😊

When the ‘Abbāsid Caliphs were under Buwayhid suzerainty their Mamlūk policy was not free from the pressure of that Daylamite dynasty. The success of the Daylamite soldiers in so many eastern armies is really astounding, but in the slightly longer run they stood no chance against the Turkish Mamlūks, and they disappeared. Even a Buwayhid ruler preferred Turks over them (see e.g.Bosworth, , “Ghaznevid military organisation”, p. 42

The reason that the Türks and other Turkic nomads were formidable warriors was that they were horse-archers. A horse-archer specifically denotes a mounted warrior armed with a bow who can shoot from horseback while riding. The Turkic nomadic warriors as well as the Mongols used the composite bow, which was made of horn, wood, and sinew. The composite bow was more accurate and had a better range and rate of fire than muskets and early firearms. The tactical principles of the Turkic horse-archers were based on the combination of fire power and mobility. yhe nomadic horse-archers shot in volleys, weakening the enemy before they charged. Ideally, they practiced "fire power in movement" like modern armies.Other things being equal, the horse-archers were often almost unbeatable on the open battlefields. Against them, sedentary soldiers were often helpless until the development of efficient battlefield handguns, including the repeating firearms (the firearms that could be fired repeatedly before being manually reloaded) in the seventeenth century.
