    You managed to pack a ton of ideas and tips into this video for this tricky situation. It probably would have taken me half a day and two or three attempts to figure out what to do. I especially liked the idea of cutting two small pieces to both test-fit the angle and give exact measurements for the final cuts.

    Great job. With that left molding pc, you can cut off the track and do a return 45 and it will finish high end. You do nice work.

    WOW have the same angle from tile to vinyl floor dilemma on transition strip. I will try that trick today. I have extra lengths for strip. Thank you

    Excellent vid. Especially the angle cut technique. But I also learned something about the the caulk, when you tapped it down while standing it up. Subtle way to keep it from clogging the nozzle. Spasiba.

      That transition line makes no sense. I would not want that look in my home. It is an odd corner and a diagonal would be better. Not that jaunt corner on the right.

    • @brandonnichols4427
      @brandonnichols4427 Před 4 lety +1

      Bonne Naturel so what would you suggest?

    • @brandonnichols4427
      @brandonnichols4427 Před 3 lety

      @@bonnenaturel6688 how does it not make sense. You have to find the degree of the angle and make the cut. This angle was a 45 degree angle. Therefore, the cuts are at 22.5 for both pieces of the transition strip.
      What would you have done. I don’t think you’re understanding. The tiling on the floor is already laid. He’s laying vinyl next to it therefore needing a transition strip.
      If the client wanted to demo and replace the tiling, they would’ve had to pay significantly more to remove the tiling, more for labor and more for flooring. If the client doesn’t want the same flooring throughout the home, you have to add transition strips

    can you use the same technique around a woodstove hearth, when installing LVP?

    • @Youdoit_DIY
      @Youdoit_DIY  Před 4 lety +1

      yes. you may need to use an End Cap instead of the T-molding. have fun!

    Excellent video. We're planning to install vinyl flooring for the first time and have no idea how to pick the transition strips.
    What's the most ideal thickness? Do we need different types or thickness for transition to carpet than transition to other vinyl (bathroom) floor? Help!

    • @Youdoit_DIY
      @Youdoit_DIY  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks! For Vinyl/Tile you should go with a T-molding. For the Carpet an End-Cap is usually used but sometimes a T-molding works better if it's a Thick Carpet. There is no straight answer unfortunately and sometimes you just have to see it and decide on the spot. hope it helps. have fun!

    I got some t molding going from lvp to carpet. Screwed in the transition track and now trying to snap in the strip. It absolutely will not snap into place and I am using a rubber mallet to try and snap it into the track. It will not snap in and the teeth on the strip are constantly breaking to pieces. Any ideas please?

  • @arieverett
    @arieverett Před 4 lety +2

    I see screw holes tapped into the track. Same with mine I’m about to install. Do you ever screw it into the slab with short concrete screws? Any benefits of screws vs. adhesive?

    • @Youdoit_DIY
      @Youdoit_DIY  Před 4 lety +1

      i do not screw because screws hold just a few points here and there, and glue holds the entire line. you can do both and that will definitely be the best! :)

    • @bonnenaturel6688
      @bonnenaturel6688 Před 4 lety +1

      professionals that have come to my home use wood shims with screws into the cement through the plastic tube thingie to give a good hold. Then they use small nails thru the molding into the wood shim. That way the wood shim is screwed down into the cement and the t molding is naileded into the shim. No kicking off the t moulding after a year or so of glue contraction. Use wood putty after setting the trim nails into the molding. That corner on the right is kinda funky, I would prefer a straight diagonal line in my home.

      You trust the 7200 adhesive that much?...I was going to try the same for a tile to vinyl plank except with clear Gorilla Max construction caulk. (and a little leary about using just adhesive on a high traffic path)

    @12:44 The short end looks incomplete the way it ends on the tile floor. Is this standard practice? In this case there is some type of furniture that buts up on the end of the strip, what if there was nothing there? Where should the strip end?

    • @Youdoit_DIY

      ideally you replace the tile and make whatever you want. but when you deal with existing things you just have to get creative

    What do you recommend for a round corners fire place, I'm about to do floor laminate planks and can't figure it out because the floor before had carpet and there's carpet under the slab the holds the fire place on so it will have a big gap in between floor and slab ? Thoughts please
