ZIRO Food Tour I World's Tallest Natural Shivlingam in Arunachal I Apatani Food I Donyi Polo Temple

  • We explored Hong Village in Ziro Valley, Nagaland, with the aim of delving deeper into the food culture of the Apatani tribe residing there. Accompanying us on this journey were our knowledgeable young guides, Oman from OurGuest Travels and Guddi. En route from Itanagar to Ziro, we made a stop in Potin for a rice meal as we were hungry. Subsequently, we paid our respects at Siddheshwarnath Temple, located 6 km from Hapoli, the main market of Ziro. One of the intriguing features of this shivalingam is that the flow of water at its base is perennial.
Upon our arrival in Ziro, Guddi, our gracious local guide, greeted us at Danu Polo Temple. Guddi, who leads tours across the North East, introduced us to the Apatani community's ladies who had assembled there to rehearse their dances for the upcoming Dree festival. After a brief interaction with the lovely ladies from varied age groups we proceeded to the picturesque emerald meadow where the Ziro Music Festival unfolds its magic. From there we headed to the residence of our gracious host, Yamayang where we had the privilege of experiencing an authentic Apatani meal.
Inside Yamayang's humble bamboo and wooden house, a central cooking counter on the floor took center stage, where roasting and cooking occurred over open fire. With little assistance from Anubhav, she effortlessly prepared three traditional dishes - Paro Yo Penii, Papu Panii and Paro Yo La Papu Payo Nii.
Later on we joined her for the meal. This immersive experience allowed us to gain enriching insights into the Apatani culture and culinary traditions.

The Apatani host really stole the show. So humble, grounded and simple. Surprisingly she could understand Hindi so well and answer accordingly. She really went out her way in showing their culture and food habits. Loved each and every bit of it.

True that, I've been learning and watching about India for maybe a year or two. I'm still amazed how diverse and rich it is. When I was younger all I knew about India was the sound of tanpura, curry pastes, vibrant colours and temples. But it's so much more than that!

And dont know why the korean/japanese fiod looks tasty but its average for me..its loosm delicious like ure eating(kimbab/kimchi) same thing in korean and japanese its called that way...maybe im not so used to it so i dont find very tasty as they looks very delicious but in real practical taste i dont prefer now..as ive tried kibab/kimchi from various places online , in various multiple restaurant, but still its an average for me.

Bro chuhaan rat mouse is of jungle..not home rats....and even the frogs are of pani kheti..paddy field its very clean as the frogs of pani kheti only eats the worm of of the roots of the paddy plants that destroys the plants..so the paddy plant gets ecologically balanced..yes i agree but we eat loval dogs but i dont eat the intestine i feel dirty abit(as it says when u feel dirty consuming the meat that ur earing then after eating u would vomit) so i would say its better not to eat the meat if u feel dirty... howerver, bit the chicken and the ligs are the most dirsty animals.. as hens and pigs eat wherver trown on their table..even earthworms , snakes, and even human excretion/stool, toilets, latrine,..and whe4eas the jungle any animals are the most cleanest.., as they eats only the junlgi gutti like herbs and plants grass etc...and only carnivore jungle anjmals eats flesh like deer etc..but they eats junlge animal which are cleanest..sometimes they come in contact to nearby village and attacks cows, mithun and bullfalo, etc.. but jungle meats are the most cleanest of all.
We tribal people are way more cleaner than the mainlander indians as we northeast indian are used to eat very natural herbs like plants based which is very organic and has various medicinal properties and very good for human body...but the metro politician cities people of mainnland india eats the adultrated and injected artifical fruits and chicken breed with atrifical injection and even plastic eggs that are very harzardous and dangerous in long run of human life...our eggs are of local chicken that are usually very smaller in size and abit off white in colour thats really super healthy and rich in taste..just try the the egg poach 🍳 of local chicken and poultry hen egss..u would immediately find the difference in richness of taste... And lot more to say bro.. if interested just give me a like...i would explain more..and the Smokie meats arw way more tasty than anything its hevaenly but eating much smoikie would raise problm in long run for stomach..so its better to eat smokie and pikey pila and fermentated thing once in a week. 😊
Yes bro ano dipyo doh...and yes the meat is juicy😂.. bariyaaa bro..its healthy and yummy...and bro please try the meat thats cooked inside bamboo one....is the most tastiest meat and the aroma of bamboo makes the meat even more tasty.♥️👌😋💦 Paya aro pacho means thank you

And welcome ( ayapa atoh) but the welcome/ayapa atoh is not used generally after thank you...modern girls and boys will understand it but village uneducated people wont understand the welcome ...as it not used after thank you in general in apatani...as we dont say welcome after thank you in aptani..u can say OK, NiCE/Good/(ayado) after one says thank you.

Nothing to frown about. We also eat Frogs, Grasshopper, Beetles, snakes, Bee, tadpoles, etc ... That's just how it is. It's same as how we feel disgusted looking at oily snakcs such as Pakora , Samosa.
