The 2nd Generation Lincoln Town Car was a Commercial Success and a Great Car *SOLD*

  • SOLD The Panther Platform from Ford was the last true American car in the classic sense - body on frame, V8 power, isolation from the road and outside world, light steering effort, opera windows, and 6-passenger comfort.
When the last Town Car rolled off the line in 2011, it wasn't just the end of that model, but the end of a uniquely America mode of transport. Not everyone was sad to see them go, but I certainly was, and thoroughly enjoy finding a well preserved example of American automotive history. SOLD

absolute pinnacle of the modern Town Car. 95-97 were the best years. This generation has such a striking, imposing design. The road presence was undeniable then, and still retains a sense of classic luxury and accomplishment. Perhaps they haven't aged well, but I think spectacular examples like these should be preserved, they're just that nice (relative to other American vehicles of the era). It was the 351 w/OD, had a carb..got as good mileage as the EFI 302 but had more power. Best ride was the 78. Best gas mileage was the 93.. also drove it the longest.

We have a '97 Town Car Cartier series, the top of the line model! Have about 214,000 miles on it, has been properly maintained, gets over 23 MPG on cross country trips, regular gas! We have decided we would rather spend many times its market value to keep it in prime condition than spend even more on any of the current offerings! It is a keeper! Oh, by the way, the Cartier series came with a full size spare tire on a matching wheel! We love the Town Car, so comfortable on long drives!

My grandma had a 1994 Town Car Cartier. She owned it for 19 years, 1996-2015, when it got totaled in a minor accident. Somebody bought it up and fixed it and I believe it's still running today at 26 years old. I remember my grandparents taking me to school in that car... it had really comfortable leather seats, the engine and road noise were as quiet as a church and a JBL sound system that sounded like a concert hall.

Side note, you can't change the factory code (well you can replace the module in the driver door to change it). You can add 2 additional codes, each one activating the seat/mirror memory corresponding to it. Also, after entering the code, 3/4 to unlock the other doors, 5/6 to open the trunk. pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time locks the car.
Young(ish) guy that loves Town Cars checking in. I've owned 6 Panthers and the 95-98 Town car is the best of them all. My 95 had over 400k miles before lending it to my sister finally killed it. Went from the 95 to an 05 TC which is still a great car, but the 95 just rides nicer. (88 GM, 89 CV, 95 TC, 03 GM, 2x05 TC)

We are on our third Town Car. First was a 93’ and our favorite. We could put four mounted snow tires in the trunk. The newer ones only three and one in the back seat. All three got over 25mpg on the road. Our current one is an 05’ and I had to go to Reno 85 miles one way for nine weeks. Drove over 7800 miles and gas mileage came in right at 26.0 mpg. Almost got 28 on one tank. The 90’s style ride was softer and great for driving long trips. The newer ones are tighter and more controlled on curves roads but not as good on the straight roads. Seats were great in the 90’s TC’s and very good on the newer ones but I still liked the 90’s best overall. Only issue we had with the 93’ was the EGR valve and O2 sensors kept reporting issues. Got tired of taking it to the Ford dealer.

I used to work as a porter at a Lincoln dealership here in the Chicago area. Worked there for 4 years and had the honor of driving every generation of Town Car at least once, even one of these as a super stretched limo. Still one of my favorite cars to drive during my time there. My favorite generations are the 1st gen, this gen, and the final gen. Gen before last, I just didn't like the design and the general population of owners didn't take very good care of those. For the last year or 2 of me working at that dealership we utilized a brand new Burgandy/Brownish colored Town Car L as our shuttle vehicle, which is a vehicle I would drive often taking customers where they needed to go and making deliveries. Now I wish I could find that very car and buy it cause I NEVER see it in that color, much less with the lengthened wheel base and I know we took good care of that car from new. Love me some Town Cars.

I had an identical 1996 Town Car Signature, except mine did have the sunroof. I loved that car! I purchased it when I was 28 years old, and it is still one of my favorite cars to this day. If I didn't currently have a 2011 Lexus LS460-L with only 18,000 miles, I would definitely be tempted to buy this Town Car. I can say that the Lexus is an amazing piece of engineering, and is quite quick...but in no way does it have the compliant ride of the Town Car. Good luck with the sale, and all of the best to the next owner!

I love how little they changed the interior from the 90s to 2011 across all the panther bodies. It's like they struck gold so there was no point in changing it. It's right in the middle of retro and modern. It's not retro enough to feel old and dated yet not modern enough to feel too sleek and trying too hard. I love the way all the buttons and dials look and feel. It's something you wouldn't appreciate until after riding in a new car now with buttons that tap instead of press. It's weird to appreciate little things like that but after riding in so many new cars with ugly interiors that try too hard to be modern I appreciate something like this a lot.

I love the keyless entry and will not buy a Ford without one. The master code found in the trunk lid can NEVER be changed. A code can be added and I think it can also be removed although I'm not sure how, but the master code is permanent. Once you enter the code, 3/4 can be pushed to open all four doors, and 5/6 will open the trunk. To lock vehicle push 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time. This allows the car to be locked while running.

Also my friend has a 1997 and during the school year this year we’d go to Dollar Tree or McDonald’s during lunch in his car and once I was in the front middle seat, and I have pretty long legs so when we hit a bump I almost hit the wheel with my knee and sent us off the road 😂 too bad we weren’t able to go out for a ride on graduation night last month, hoping to get myself a second gen Town Car. These cars are so beautiful and they ride so nice and smooth, my grandparents had a 1989, 1998, and 2002. Great review has always! I absolutely love these Town Cars as well as the other Panther bodies. Can you please do a review on the classic Mercury that you have?

My Dad traded he's 87 Cadillac in for the Lincoln Town Car. He said there's no comparison the Lincoln the most reliable car he ever have. I drove both I thought the Lincoln drove better too

What would Ford lose if they put a 4.6L V8 engine with 32 valves with 275 hp on the Lincoln Town Car 96? Will it go bankrupt or will the old people stop buying it? Will it cause a big loss for Ford???

10:26 the display is very attractive. I just wonder what was behind the design team's thinking, making the compass display as big as life!? Were Lincoln Owners known for going the wrong way?😨

I love the Town Car. I've had 4 different ones and 2 of them where 97 Executive Series models . I had 2 that was a 94 Executive Series and a 2002 Signature Series. I wish I still had them but it's some bad drivers on theses roads so 2 git wrecked and where totaled out . One the motor was giving me to much problems so I sold it and the 4th was stolen. I've recently bought a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis and it was so much similar to my Lincolns that sometimes I forget it's not until I get out the car

@Jake Griffin the 80's Town Car has to be one of the most beautiful cars ever built. The last years of the boxy style is my favorite. I remember as a kid, if someone pulled up in one of those, they were like royalty. Lol. 100% Class.

These are great cars, super comfy, highway cruiser, lovely to drive. My only complaint is the stupid cupholders, when you have your drink in it blocks the climate control and some of the radio even, want to slap the ford designers on that one. But other then that great car. Lucky find there Bill.

The digital dash was not an option, it became standard in 1993. Also you can program your own keyless entry code (in addition) but the factory code can never be changed unless you swap out the module

That’s a very clean Town Cahhh right there! I used to own a 93 Executive Series Town Car years ago, and it was very smooth riding, but it had way too
many electrical problems especially the non working HVAC and the interior quality was very cheap plasticky which wasn’t very luxurious at all. The car was very reliable mechanically tho. I currently own a 78 Lincoln Continental which is by far the smoothest most comfortable, isolating riding car I have ever driven. You think the 90’s Townies are smooth, you haven’t experienced nothing yet. The 70’s Lincoln’s have an amazing serene unbeatable ride that is unmatched even by Cadillac in its time and is the best of any decade.

I’ve driven a TownCar since 1995, the only thing I hate about my 1991 is the blend door for the air conditioning. The dash had to be pulled twice @$1000,00 each time and it’s stuck once again. I have replaced the air conditioning 8 times at $1000.00 each. I am finally getting a new Lincoln Continental.

God how I miss REAL American cars! I had my first new Lincoln when I was 34, it's use to be a statement to the world that a man had made it if he owned a Caddy or a Lincoln, not so much with the Chrysler, Imperial... I'm trying to remember if AMC had a competitor for the Caddy and Lincoln, don't think they did. I still drive older American luxury cars even today, thank God you can still find REAL American cars in decent shape in 2020!
