You can tell how much research he put into postive training methods, and he's naturally great with tone and timing, both also crucial. Fantastic dog dad! Reminds me of when I was training my younger dog nine years ago (man, that time has flown). Worked very hard to train her right, and while it was a lot of work, it paid off in spades since you have a delightful companion you don't need to fret about letting off the lead or taking somewhere new, and a solid trusting bond that lasts for their lifetime. Totally worth it.
A dog able to keep constant eye contact usually means they're pretty well trained

hey ian I learned recently the best way to train dogs to go to the bathroom. dont say "go pee" except when shes ACTUALLY peeing, then say it repeatedly. once she's done, give treats. shell build an association with "go pee" to actually peeing, and that it's a good thing.
And then you can prank smelly old grandma by telling your dog "go pee" whenever you're over for holidays, assuming your grandma isn't a Nazi and will let the dog in the house of course.
Best way I got my dog to pee was to take a piss in the garden myself and he'd be like wtf bro and immediately piss after me.

For my dog I just say ‘business’ / ‘do your business’ whenever he has ever peed, and so that’s his toileting command or asking if he needs to be let out
For years and years now we've trained our dogs from a pup to take the initiative in letting us know when they need to pee / poo. It's a much longer and taxing process but pays off in spades in the long run of things. We're all guilty of falling off our normal routine schedule with our little loves and the reward is normally a nice steamy pile on the carpet that you normally smell before you find. With the dog being able to take the initiative it's like a reminder inside a reminder. Not quite a fail safe but the next best thing..... Idk why I felt the need to go on and on about this.... Anyways, your idea is different from the norm so I like it!
