About Bulgaria Air (from Wikipedia):
Bulgaria Air (Bulgarian: България Ер) is the flag carrier airline of Bulgaria, with its headquarters at Sofia Airport in Sofia. The company is owned by Chimimport AD and is a leader in terms of local market share. The airline operates short and medium haul aircraft to destinations in Europe and the Middle East. Focus cities in Bulgaria are Burgas and Varna. In 2018 the company carried a total of 1.267 million passengers on 5,995 flights.
The airline was established in 2002 as a successor to the insolvent Balkan Bulgarian Airlines and commenced operations on 4 December that year. By order of the Minister of Transport and Communications it was declared the national flag carrier in November 2002. Bulgaria Air began operations using the name Balkan Air Tour. The airline was known by that name for just a short period of time. The name Bulgaria Air and the initial logo were determined in a public competition. Bulgaria Air was privatised in 2006; although it was rumoured that the government wanted to sell the carrier to a major foreign investor, a group of locally owned companies, led by Hemus Air, emerged as the buyer with Italian airline Air One being the only other contender. Hemus Air reportedly paid €6.6 million and promised to invest a further €86 million over the next five years. Since then, all flights and operations of Hemus Air and its subsidiary Viaggio Air are under the name and management of the merged company, Bulgaria Air.
In November 2008, Bulgaria Air became a full member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). In mid-2011 Bulgaria Air announced that they had completed a thorough analysis of its routes and had decided to acquire the new Embraer 190 aircraft. The delivery of the first new Embraer 190 aircraft occurred in March 2012. In February 2020, the airline’s CEO Yanko Georgiev stated that the carrier was in talks with two aircraft manufacturers to place an order for a single-aisle jet. They plan to order 5-6 of these aircraft to modernise their fleet and to extend their network with more aircraft available.

Bulgaria Air actually ordered 7 A220s and they already received 2 of them and operating. The coolest thing is that the registrations will be after European capitals such as: LZ-LON LON LZ-ROM and soon LZ-PAR i.e. London, Rome, Paris but we still do not know the rest of the 4 registrations. I think they have improved quite a lot as an airline.
Nice😍
I flew in one of them. Had an amazing experience
It's called a rolling takeoff. They do occasionally for a few reasons. It makes separation easier in busy airspace. Also in crosswind conditions it is good for the engines
Interesting, I didn't know that before! Thank you for the explanation😊🙏
@@theRealJohnnyG.I'm very very surprised you didn't like the chocolate was it Bulgarian made? Cause in Bulgaria we have the ottoman tradition of loving & manufacturing lot of sweets is a big business here also we're the 1st country in Eastern Europe to produce and among the largest exporters of chocolate today we learn that craft 130yrs ago from cousins Belgarians/Belgians. Belgarium/Belgium was the 1st country besides Russia to give us welcome to free Europe and to build our first factories.
@@theRealJohnnyG.So to understand today's Balkans and particularly today's Bulgaria (1878-1945 - 5 wars & as a result we border with ourselves in our neighbor countries live more Bulgarians than in today's BG btw without any losses of Bulgarian Armies but only victories) to see how geo politics play major role how the "Great Powers" treat you depending on your geo location how the closeness to East & Orient has literally influence just see Belgium & Bulgarium the same tribe found both nations & states & what tremendous difference in history abilities future etc no comparison. Today's BG from soviet province jumped to an Italian province where the Mafia has a country where the country is a mafia with democracy while Italia is only democracy with mafia so Italians have long way still to go to catch us.
Western prejudices against Eastern Europe are super exaggerated. There is no significant difference between Eastern and Western Europe. Eastern Europe went through brutal destruction in the years of the wars in Europe, even more brutal communism and economic collapse after 1989, but we are still talking about quite educated and hardworking people. Just think, Bulgaria is a country nearly 1400 years old, not counting Old Great Bulgaria on the territory of today's Russia and Crimea before the 6th century. Bulgaria is the birthplace of the Cyrillic alphabet, these people were the first among all Slavs to create churches of the rank of Patriarchy, the first to have rulers of the rank of Tsars, the Bulgarians were the first to create educational schools in the Middle Ages, such as those that existed only in the Eastern Roman Empire- The Imperial University of Constantinople also known as the University of the Palace Hall of Magnaura. Does anyone really expect these people to be third world place. The economy and infrastructure is not up to par, but this is not a criterion to judge such nations. As wealth is not the criteria to judge a person.
Interesting video and very correct presentation of these airlines.
Thank you for your comment. I couldn't agree more with you on this. The prejustices against this part of the world are mind-boggling, especially in the "west". I have to admit that I was guilty of that as well, but traveling to countries in Eastern Europe and the Balkans (and traveling in general) really changed my perspective. Of course, I say that from a privileged pov of a Digital Nomad earning a Swiss wage, but I really fell in love with Bulgaria, and it wasn't my last time there, for sure.
Good 👍👍👍
@@theRealJohnnyG. Plovdiv, Rila Monastery and 7 Rila lakes must be included in your trip. Those are must-see destinations. If you are digital nomad, perhaps consider the annual Digital Nomad Festival in Bansko organised by a German gentlemen residing there. You can also visit our previous, medival capital during the Second Bulgarian Empire - Veliko Tarnovo. It is not that big, but the views are incredible. If you return to the Black Sea, then Nesebar is the number 1 town you need to visit followed by Sozopol. All historic and beautiful towns. Bulgaria, similar to Greece are very old countries and you will find history almost everywhere. If you like your history, Plovdiv is your city!
Archievments in the very far past has nothing to do with the present. And nothing to do with this video. I agree that BG air is one of the worst airlines in Europe and Sofia airport is one of the worst airports in Europe, not only with customer service (and grumpy people) but also in construction (see for yoursel in the parking lot). Lets be honest: corruption in BG is the highest in the EU and perhaps therefore the GDP the lowest... That is the official GDP. How come there are more huge Mercedes in Sofia than I see in other capitals whilist the common people lack even proper health care?)
@@user-fk3fz9mc4j
“The past is never dead. It's not even past.” ― William Faulkner.
Achievements in the past has a lot to do with the present and has a lot to do with this video. Without knowing the past of the country you can't explain the current situation. That is why people learn history. When you don't know the history you are left with corruption as explanation for everything.
The idea that Bulgaria is the most corrupt country in the EU is total nonsense. Bulgaria doesn't even have the economy to be so corrupt. There is a significant difference between urban legends and reality. The Mercedes argument is absurd. Indeed, there has been serious economic stratification in Bulgaria over the last 30 years, but this is a global trend and is not the result of corruption. I would agree there is a customer service issue though. I like the new Bulgarian airport. Super clean and well organized.
It's not right to say ''unsafe'' because it is an EU airline and is monitored by EASA and all EU airlines must comply with the same procedures and rules. I have had 3 flights with Bulgaria air and all safety related duties were followed. My last flight was in 2022 with them when they had barely enough cabin crews to maintain operations, but on my a319 flight with them I still got 3 cabin crews as required by law. And as I mentioned Bulgaria air is monitored by the Bulgarian CAA and CAA is monitored by EASA. So I think that Josh slightly exaggerated his flight experience. Also even if cabin crew operations lack at some point(which is unacceptable), then trust me many of the pilots in Bg air work for Wizz Air as well, so no lack of training to be seen there.
I've never travelled with Bulgaria Air where the crew had been lacking in any manner and I travel with them regularly since their creation. The only thing I noticed was the heavy accent of some of the crew, which is nothing major compared to the French or other airlines.
Knowing anything in BG how everything works and what nation lives in BG, Europe still is very very suspicious about BG and Bulgarians
The person @ 3:50 is called Lubo Kirov - a pop singer and music producer.
nice - thank you🤙
I also don't get why Bulgaria Air has a bad rep, its one of few airlines to offer a full service and proper business class seats. I would say it's one of the best European short haul airlines.
Yes! :)
You probably compare it to Wizzair and Ryanair. BG-air it pretty much the worst of all European airlines, I have to say that they improved on their sandwiches in the last couple of years
@@user-fk3fz9mc4j all I hear is Womp Womp
Josh Cahill's video was wrong because he made the video when Bulgaria air was in financially unstable
Bulgaria Air is operating some domestic flights for Cebu Pacific until April 2024 and I kinda want to try it! Those flights are manned by FB crews (pilots and cabin crew) and apparently some 5J crew also go on board so that would be a unique experience.
Wow, really?😂 That actually does sond like a very unique experience, thank you for sharing, I'll research that. Makes me want to try it aswell.
Yes as far as I know you are allowed to start accelerating on the Taxiway but only to 50% thrust.
Interesting🤔 thanks!
Lubo (Lubоmir) Kirov a Bulgarian pop singer member of the "Mortal remains" & "Mr White" groups.
Bulgaria Air is super cool! Best pilots and most gorgeous flight attendants! Eat it Josh! Bravo Johnny!
Thanks for watching!😎
Hi, accelerating from the taxiway is pretty normal for Bulgarian pilots like the smooth landings in Sofia. And most of the time there are cross wind during landings in Sofia. The reason for the accelerating from the taxiway and not the usual stop and setting the throttles in TO/GA right on the runway is because they received already the take off clearance.
Thank you for the explanation! I was a bit surprised, but so as it seems that's all normal. 😄
@@theRealJohnnyG. Yes, and Josh Cahill is paid from airlines to prepare such kind of reports. Bulgaria Air has 3 brand new A220 and the average age fleet is about 5 years. Imagine what is the average at BA and Lufthansa. Correction - 4 new A220 and 3 for the next year
@@baader9996 months
The old BG Air planes are not so comfortable, but new BCS3s are really good for middle flight.
Their prices are very competitive, have never noticed safety issues and been using them regularly for over 10 years. 200 eur var-sof is unusually high.
And their new a220 knocks out all eu competitors out of the park
Thank you for your comment. The 200 Euro were for 2 pax, so just 100 per person. Hope to try their A220 soon. ;)
4:59 why are the flaps and slats extended (position 1 I guess) during the parking? in 11:02 they are retracted during parking in Sofia
That's some amazing observation skills you've got hahhaha. I don't know the reason for that aswell but maybe there is some expert who can let us know under this comment.
@@theRealJohnnyG.yes, would be interesting if someone knows more about it :)
Love this channel
Thank you!❤️🙏
The reason bulgarians use this airline is because the staff speak bulgarian unlike ryan air or wizz air but on wizz air the only speak bulgarian on flights to sofia (advice from a bulgarian)
Hahhaha well, that makes sense!👍🇧🇬
Ill let you know that runway is terrible, we had a similar thing when we took off the aircraft started swearing left and right before we took off
😂😂😅😅
His video was 3 years ago. Obviously things are going to change
to the better at least :)
He’s just using Josh to get views, loser behavior
@@bimmer8172 😢💔 oh no you broke my heart
If the other airline flying the same short route costs one tenth the price - I think u said that - why would anyone use this one?
Yep, I asked that question aswell in the video...
Cause Bulgars are adventurous ppl just tell them don't do something and they'll gladly do it
I'd say Bulgaria air is like a low-cost airline. They serve a joke of a food. I've flown with nice crew, once they offered me beer every time I finished mine for free :)
bro no one asked I’m Bulgarian if you don’t like Bulgaria or the airline get on another airline for Bulgaria that doesn’t mean you have to be so rude like ивайло си толкова груб!!!
I recognise. It’s Lubo Kirov
Thanks for letting us know!
I honestly think Bulgaria air stepped up their game. They werent this good in the beginning.
Nice, as of now they are pretty solid imo
I think the reason for the different experience is that Josh prepared the way and they upped their game because of his review.
Yes, that might actually be the case :)
I don't think so, Josh's problem is that he feels it all. Airlines should give him VIP treatment, those who get for him extra treatment or even free tickets are praised, those who treat him like normal passengers, they are called unsafe
I have been using this carrier for 20 years and my bet is that this is a promo paid for by the airline that is why the made it so nice
If you can can convince an airline to sponsor a YT channel with only 1.6k subs I guess there will be many CZcamsrs fighting to hire you hahahha
@@theRealJohnnyG. Very good comment, most of the Bulgarians have negative thoughts about BG Air, most of them never had the chance to fly them.

A friend once brought me a delicacy from her holiday in Bosnia, called Eurocrem Blok. To this day, I am still trying to digest it.😂

Actually Bulgaria has a strong history of chocolate. Nowadays Mondelez (Milka, Cadbury, Toblerone etc) has its main factories for the Balkans located there. If you buy a toblerone around the Balkans, it was most likely produced here in the factory in Svoge, Bulgaria.
But yes, the chocolate that Bulgaria Air gives tastes like these medicinal ones that contain laxatives.
