  • We look at the Bota for style, materials, construction, fit and value. This is a boot for those with a broader but not true wide foot but has issues with sizing. I have had this pair for a few years now but use has been limited due to the sizing issues.

Nice to see a video on Panama jack's in English with some detail. How do you know the stitching underneath doesn't do anything? It's quite a typical form of construction to stitch just the from like this as it's a common point of fail. I would also add that it's hard to call them waterproof when the tongue isn't gusseted. Water easily enters over the top.
I did ask Panama jack whether the models with what looks like a Goodyear welt is real or not and they never answered that question. Also no answer as to whether they have a shank or not.

Thanks for your comments. I'll try to answer the questions. The sole "stitching" is faux. I'm not surprised they didn't answer your question about Goodyear Welt. Effort has been made to disguise the fake with a channel and apparent twist to the thread. However, close inspection reveals the whole thing is moulded in rubber. Poking with a knife point confirms this. I think the only way to guarantee a boot is waterproof is rubber sole stuck down, bellows tongue and a membrane liner. These boots tick only one box but are very good for what they are intended to be used for which isn't hiking. Just to repeat that despite my criticisms, these are great boots. Cheers.

They are stitched in the trench on the sole. Its very hard to see. Shine a torch in there and you can see it. i can see the end of the stitch sticking out of the trench in your video.

Its a faux stitch. Poke it with a pin.
