- The historic sanctuary of First Baptist Church in downtown Dallas (built in the 1870’s) is fully engulfed in flames, the roof has collapsed in a massive ball of fire and all that remains standing is the steeple.

The sanctuary can be rebuilt. The steeple, being rescued and presumably largely undamaged, would have been the hard part. Using hardwoods in a sanctuary roof (such as oak) and then treating the surfaces with fire-retardant clear paint that will stop flame for at least 30 minutes would stop a recurrence. Time for the community to do fund-raisers for the difference in cost between what insurance may be available and the actual cost of a rebuild! Dallas is good for that.
Are they going to preserve the building?
Why fire alarm going off there
