The problem people have with highly intelligent, confident people, is that they tend to be honest about both their strengths and their weaknesses. Dave is aware of his role in Metallica, and what he said in this video is just facts.
I was fortunate to party with the original Megadeth ( Killing is my business, and business is good ) after the show where Flotsam and Jetsom opened in Phoenix AZ. I've always thought that Dave leaving Metallica was a good thing. Because without Megadeth, there would be no Peace Sells, Holy Wars or Hanger 18 and a so many other great songs that could never happen in Metallica.
It also made an amazing story, I love the fact that Dave came back with a vengeance forming his own band Megadeth. He was out of control and probably deserved to get fired, but still redeemed himself by having a ton of success and huge impact on the culture of Heavy Metal
Perfectionists usually are. That's not to say his music is perfect (we're talking about art afterall), but I bet it's as close to his idea of perfect at the time it was recorded. I've heard it said before that Megadeth = "Dave Mustaine and his hired guns". I agree.

He mentions in the full interview maybe moving back to california because his wife was going to divorce him. But he saved it and are still together.

Even if it’s told through his own filter you can be sure that he’s not making it up and I’d trust him over Lars who I’ve never gotten a good impression of. Dave has great flow in his story telling, this was amusing to watch.
I think he's being 100% honest as well . His problem has always been he never holds firm .. on his statements . Today he would probably say Lars is a good ! drummer , and get offended if anyone said he wasn't . He did the same type of thing on Marty F. and Al Pitrelli . Said Al was a better guitarist than Marty , and would have picked him if they had both tried out the same day . Then later said Al was a good "temporary" replacement but certainly no Marty !! Mustaine goes all over the place with his statements .
Dave Mustaine openly loves many things...his wife, his daughter, his dog, his guitar collection. He loves making wine. He loves to hold small shows and play for his closest friends and family. He loves making hard hitting, well thought out, metal tunes that will be relevant for decades to come, something Metallica quit doing years ago. Dave isn't on a huge ego trip. He's rather humble, especially considering his talent. No, the members of Metallica, namely Lars, but sometimes James, have allowed their over inflated to egos run amok. At least twice they've selfishly and in a slimy and cowardly way, fired people from the band who were talented, loyal, and integral parts of the band. That kind of karma will right itself eventually.
Anyone that’s been in any hard working band for long enough, realizes that arguments and even the occasional fistfight amongst members are really not that uncommon and in fact kind of goes with the territory.

@@iconstructme From what Dave said in his book it was mostly Lars and management that wanted him gone. James was very emotional when Dave left and seemed to not want him to go. Lars even said in Some Kind Of Monster that he felt that when Dave was in Metallica that he couldn’t relate to the macho alpha male environment that Dave and James had created and was jealous of their friendship. Dave also said in his book that after he was kicked out Lars went around to everyone they knew and said that Dave sucked at guitar and didn’t help write any songs. Lars was jealous of Dave. Which means it's still totally BS.

@@neildmonte8786 from what I understand the only thing he had help with on ride the lightning was the main riff (or one of the core riffs in the song, can't remember if it was specifically the main one or not)
And through that we got another legendary band
Bro, what made Metallica a great band was the fact that they signed a contract, in that period, Mustaine was the real frontman, the star in the stage, and the main songwriter and owner of most of the half of material the band had.
If anything their success came from Cliff, because he introduced more complexity to the songs and melodies in the post Kill Em era
And Dave has another band, doing very good.
both are good but dave fanboys still salty bout him being a dick to metallica
Seen both bands live in their prime 84-86. Megadeth hands down.
Lmao. That ain't megadeths prime.
Megadeath are boring
@@billymurray1687i litterally fell asleep listening to st. Anger
@@predeterminedmeat5024 Are you really old? lol...Anyway, St Anger is a long long way from their prime years.

Any idea what year this interview took place.
“Lars is not a good drummer.”
Finally somebody said it. I’ve always thought this my whole life.
Appearantly he quit practicing like decades ago. No wonder he can't even play their own songs like he used to anymore.
what do you mean finally? People have been saying that for decades
@@keithmorgan1170 I read an interview where Vinny Paul said the best of Lars Ulrich was in Master of Puppets and Justice for All. After that his drumming lacked rudimentary skills and his timing was worse than a Meshuggah song.
That was a great interview. It was also like total comedy. So many conflicting stories of the way some band member is no longer with that band. I think of how important all of these events were. I loved Metallica when they came out, and still do. I just turned 64 last month. I also love Megadeth, very much. Imagine if Dave had not formed Megadeth. His contribution is very important to me!! The world would be at least a little different if we did not have the gift of Megadeth and all the fine musicians in the band over all that time.
There are no conflicting stories about how he was kicked out dumbass.
They all have said INCLUDING Dave, they woke him up in the middle of the night and made him get on a bus back to San Francisco.
Dave Mustaine is Thrash
In guitar world (in my eyes),
Dave Mustaine started the wave of modern guitar.
When the dust settles, he'll be in the Jimi Hendrix tier. He already is in my eyes
He seems like a genuine nice guy
We love Dave......
I'm with Dave. He seems like he is cool. I very much love Metallica's music. But they seem just a bit not cool. Dave is cool. You can tell he does not take shit but does not give it either. He just tells it like it is. And I would be pissed if someone spits up food or in my food, or threw my shoe out the window. That kinda shit always pissed me off. I and my homeboys never played that kinda shit. That is the shit that starts fights.
Dave in his prime was not an easy person to be friends with. Look at how many people were fired from Megadeth vs Metallica and tell me who is cool. Dave was never known by any of the other big bands to be a particularly nice or humble guy, and he made plenty of mistakes in the Metallica days too even if he tells it like it was everyone else who had a problem.
@@Goofballhero watch metallica mock AIC about laynes heroin addiction metallica isnt much cooler
@@dancobb3006 Metallica were far from saints either I agree, and Lars along with James were known to be major douches at times. I’m just saying that Dave Mustaine was a grade-A asshole, even amongst someone like Lars. Chuck Billy of Testament said very few people could get along with Mustaine when he was touring or otherwise, and not even Dave Ellefson who is one of the chillest dudes on the planet could stand him.
James and Lars I don't care much for. James makes fun of a lot of band's live like Alice In Chains making fun of Laynes addiction problems and Kurt Cobain what color are Kurt Cobains eyes ? One blue this way and One blue that way. That shit ain't funny and neither is James the Crowd got quite and didn't think it was funny !
They were all douches when they were young. We didn't like them for their personalities. We liked them for their music. Sure Dave might've grown up a bit more the past couple years but they all hung out for a reason. they were douches who played music lol.
I honestly believe Dave on this one lol
Search the jim brewer story on Howard stern about Lars and this is completely believable. And brewer is hilarious
"You kicked my dog!"
We believe you Dave. 🤘
Ummm, he got kick out. He didn't leave - hence the 40 years of bitterness.
