- Apple just released a new M3 MacBook Air with the same design as its predecessor but with a more powerful M3 chip. However, there's some interesting features on this new MacBook Air that aren't on Apple's other M3 MacBook Pro like dual monitor support. Also Apple might be hinting at some new AI features coming soon...

Great video! Thank you for pointing out the anodization process. Didn’t catch that anywhere else!
Glad it was helpful!
2:34 “This thing is not even two times faster than the M1 Macbook Air.” I mean that if you are disappointed that in two CPU generations, Apple doesn’t even manage to double the performance, then you do not know a great deal about CPU history. During the Intel age, we got about 5-8% every two years and now 60% in two years doesn’t seem impressive?! Well, that sounds a little bit crazy to me 😂
It’s not bad! I just meant it’s not a night and day difference over the M1 like the switch over to intel. It’s faster but it’s hard to notice considering M1 is still really fast!
@@GregsGadgetsit's indeed a day and night difference. Way more than day and night. 60% is colossal in two generations.
My MacBook with Apple silicon is 20x faster than my previous MacBook so I find 1,6x faster not that much too.
It’s the same 💩 with iPhones 📱. People get mad if the next year iPhone isn’t 50% or more faster than the previous year. What a stupid standard many people that know next to nothing on CPU increases. 😮
The big jump occurred with the M1, with the switch to ARM, then M2. The M3 is more of a refinement, hence a much smaller gain of only up to 14%, or 8%, depending the comparison point (based on Apple's own listed gain on the MacBook Air web pages, which compare the M3 or M2 to the M1 and the fastest Intel version)
You just made my day! My new M2 MacBook Air was supposed to be delivered on March 12, but I received it today. I set up my M2 machine, watched this video, then ran to the Apple Store like Superman to return the M2 and order the M3 Air. Thank you so much! 😂😅
No need to watch a video or read anything. You're paying the same for the M2 and the M3, so why keep the M2? Isn't it obvious that you should have the M3?
@@marcrodet4900 Actually, I didn't know M3 was announced yesterday. I knew that by watching this video. Yes, the new M3 (16GB/512GB) even cost me less.

I love my 13” M2 Base Air handles all my college needs & paired with M1 iPad Air Base cellular it’s the ultimate combo.
I really hate Apple for all these artificially engineered limitations on their otherwise great products.
Agreed. Hence why I refused to buy the base M1 or M2, and why I don’t be buying the base M3, also for the lack of ports
Great point on the m2 air to wait that it could go on sale for 849 or so somewhere.
I got a M2 Air bought last week for. 900$ on Amazon here in Spain and the M2 is really really powerful if you buy it you won't regret it.
@@nicolasb.henry294depends on the RAM size, you’re getting the base model…you will regret it
thx Greg!!!
Interesting update. I’m glad they’ve put the coating on the midnight model. Do you think Apple is starting to max out their chips? it’s surprising it’s only 1.6 faster than M1
I cant believe these guys got away with just one external display all these years and have the audacity to say now we support two monitors.
Even now you have to have the laptop lid closed to have 2 displays. Apple please you can borrow a book from windows on this. Even the budget laptops can do this with ease.
Thank you Greg, excellent review as usual, so many laptops to choose from, what am I going to do? Air, Pro, Max I don’t know yet, but your review helps me make that difficult choice
No wrong choice! Balance features with your budget and you should be happy.
Cool nice video , I didn't know about a new MacBook Air since this video 😃👌🏽 thanks
I think the real win is you can get a refurbished M1 Pro for less money, more storage & same performance pretty much.
Not even close to the same performance.
Great comparisons and suggestions.
What I need to know is would upgrading from the M2 Air solve the issue of the MacBook feeling warm when screen sharing on my Apple Vision Pro. When using the Vision Pro this was the first time since owning the MacBook M2 that heating up was an issue. Thanks in advance!
I it will be hotter
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.
Up to few months ago I was able to connect 3 monitors + MacBook Pro Intel-based. Then Apple released an update and killed that on Intel-based. Now is 2 monitors + MacBook on both (Intel + Mx).
If the Mx is more powerful, will they moved to 3 monitors + 1 on Mx in the future?
Anyway, great vid Greg, thanks for keeping the community informed. Keep it up man!
I've had a 13" M2 Macbook Air since they came out and it's been a great little computer. It's not my main computer, but every time I use it I'm amazing at how well it performs and my only regret is they didn't have the 15" at first or I would of bought it. The 13" screen is a bit small for my old eyes. The Macbook Air is a great general use computer it can handle video and does well with audio for non-pro level work so a lot of Apple for price.
do I need to update my intel MacBook Pro (2020) if I only use it for browsing, streaming, and email? will I notice a big difference if its just for daily use?
The main difference lies in battery life and heat generation - those apple silicon machines just get slightly warm, they’re awesome and a very noticeable jump over from any intel machine, I totally recommend them 👌
unless your current daily driver is disappointing you rn, you don't really need an upgrade.
M1 is a big YES
@@itsjoe8443 yea I mean it works fine, only time I have an issue is I have to charge couple times a day or when I have too many tabs open . Activity monitor is usually green sometimes yellow.
Waiting for the new iPads to be announced. I’ve already found out what trade-in I can get for my current one.
Thanks for the content!
Damn, just bought an m2 air base 2 weeks ago. About to return and upgrade for a $110 difference.
I got my MacBook Pro last weekend at Best Buy for $1750 from $1999 on sale
So? What's the link with the video?
Watch the video and you’ll have your answer
@@bonnett34 Unintelligent answer. All the crucial points are missing. What is the model? What's the configuration? Is an external display used? What about external drives and peripherals? What about SD cards? Etc. In other words, how do you know that the MacBook Pro is relevant for this user? How do you know that the cheaper MacBook Air is not perfectly suitable?
so do i need to upgrade from my m1 macbook air? still doesnt look like it for my needs
No, keep rockin the M1, it’s a great laptop and still supported by Apple with updates.
Is the m1 still a good buy now? Its price dropped by 100€ today here in Europe.
m2 on the other hand did not drop in price.
(3rd party retailers)
Not Best Buy as it’s closer too less support, worth to keep if you have one but as new buyer it be better with latest if one goes for base model.
If thinking of 16gb m3 air then the 14” m3 pro be worth go towards as it comes with a killer display and 120hz.
I would say for some simple use the best be latest air base model.
I was almost fooled, then I clicked on your video. thank you.
Great job Greg, you got this out quickly!
M3 Macbook Pro must have the two external display feature ASAP
Agree
Apple will fix this witj the new m4 Version at the end of year 😉
It does... not sure what you mean. I'm using 2x 4k displays both at 144hz on my M1 Pro. I think you mean it can't handle 3 external monitors which is still annoying. It can do the laptop screen + 2x monitors though.
A software update 😂@@leagabler8503
@@halfalligator6518 it doesn’t, he’s talking about de M3 MacBook Pro not the M3 Pro MacBook Pro
I’m waiting to be sure they don’t have the ssd issue on the base ssd model and I will order a 15 inch with 16 gb of ram
What's the "DON'T BE FOOLED!" part?
They need views lol
😂
He generally thinks his viewers are a bunch of fools, hence the tittle.
It's been a month or so and some retailers are putting certain SKUs on sale. We got my wife a 13" Air 16/512 recently for $200 off (it also has the nonbined chip). It's very nice, very light and the screen was much better than I expected. In most conditions it doesn't seem much different than out 14" and 16" Pro models that my sons and I have. She has had a Dell XPS 15 and got tired of running an extension cord across the den if she wanted to work on her laptop there rather than her desk and do anything intensive for more than an hour. While she is still getting use to Mac OS the instant on and battery life seem to impress her every time she opens the lid. Very nice details on the review as always Greg!
Hello guys,
The eternal question remains for me:
- MBA M3 15" with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB memory for 2,059 €
- MBP M3 Pro 14" with 512 GB SSD and 18 GB memory for 2,499 €
Knowing that I want to keep my Mac as long as possible (I currently have a mid-2009 MBP 13").
The extra ports on the MBP I can do without, I can connect a hub and I only have one external display.
So is 440 € for a better screen really worth it ?
Is the M3 Pro chip more durable than the M3 ?
Thank you for your helpful answers.
Yay Greg is back!!
At least someone is happy 😅
@@GregsGadgetsAlways a joy watching your content and your viewpoints! Thanks for this quick update in the morning!!
The price ladder on these Macbooks will drive you crazy, you can go up and up and up. I'm glad I stopped climbing. I'm super happy with my Macbook Pro M3(regular) and 16gb ram - I cannot see how anyone could use 8gb ram and Adobe Creative Cloud apps.
Apple is no longer selling the 15 M2 at their website new so you can't configure up there, you'd have to buy refurb or check 3P sellers. But you're going to throttle with those Airs, so what's the point? Spend the extra 100.00 and get the MacBook Pro M3 w/ 16 gb of ram instead of getting 16/512 with the Air.
Apple still shipping 8GB is kinda .... uhm .... well you know what i mean.
I'm glad Greg is recommending the M2 as the M3 is literally just another year of software support and a weird software workaround to get "multiple external displays" imo.
right i feel ya man...... im sticking with my M2 Mac boook pro for as long as i can
I have the 15 inch midnight m2 air. And the fingerprints are barely noticeable. Ridiculous how so many people complain about that lol
Did you not see the fingerprints in my video 😭
Speak for yourself, my M2 midnight has smudges just by breathing on it. It's disgusting
Apparently some people are greasier than others and that’s okay
@@MonsieurGuyi purchased a navy blue skin from fishskyn and I love it. Significantly reduces fingerprints and matches the color original color extremely well. Could be worth a purchase if it bothers you that much

I'm kind of disappointed in the performance improvement vs. the M2 MBA. Sort of a small incremental improvement for the price.
That's what you're gonna get with Apple silicon. Don't except a leap like the one between Intel Macs to M1. That was just a one time thing.
low power mode is going to be great on M3 MBA
Very helpful info. After this video, I think i will go for M3 MacBook Pro
Hope we still get new iPads….
Probably announcment tomorrow or sometime this week
Is that supposed to happen this month?
ipad pro?
What for? Aren’t the current ones serving you well? Aren’t those things handicapped by the software and not the hardware?
Would it be worth going from the M1 to M3 MacBook Air?
No
Not really unless you have high-end professional work. Examples: non-software engineering, architecture, software engineering.
Only if double the RAM
Laptop lid closed for duel display, might as well have a desktop then
Seems wild that in 2024 we are getting a new feature of 2 external displays. And dongles.
Only if you close the lid. 😂
Great video
While I am tempted to get the m3. I think I might look at getting an m2 with 16gb ram for a similar price. Or maybe a 15 inch model base.
Damn. I brought the macbook air M2 15 inch (512GB) last month in Phuket for $1300. Never knew an M3 would launch this sooner. M2 15inch has also been discontinued !
where does his cpu upgrade option come from? ok. i get it now. he probably should mention it, if you upgrade the RAM, this CPU upgrade will be included for free.
Wait the m2 15-inch was only sold for 9 months
I have the same question
Pretty much… 😬
Like the m2 pro/max MacBook Pro
And? I don't see where the issue could be. People should on the contrary be happy that Apple, for once, does not wait ages to update its computers. Besides, it's pretty obvious that Apple would also update the 15-inch. It is impossible to update the 13-inch to an M3 and keep the 15-inch with an M2 just because it was introduced 9 months ago. This does not make any, any sense
There was a delay to TSMC 3nm that caused Apple all sorts of problems and the M2 was always a filler year, whilst they waited for 3nm to be finalised.
Pissed cause I just bought an M2 Air a couple of months ago and now they drop the price 😭😭
Last year the M2 came out and Apple nerfed the transfer speeds to save a buck. 😂
They were differentiating the model range. When they released the M1 they went 100% turbo to get the PR and show how great the M1 was, but now they have to think about the future and that each model is better as you pay more, like in real life.
I need some advice: I am finally going to upgrade my MacBook Pro 2017 Model to the M3 MacBook Air. However, is it better getting 16gb RAM with an M3 chip with like 512GB? Help me lol
With that price better look at the m3 pro 14”
@@TVNorway but the specs wont be the same.16gb 512gb will be around 1800/1900 whereas m3 air you can tweek it to 24 gb 1tb for the same price
@@haggaikathewela8910 it’s just not worth sacrifice going air with screen quality as well pro motion.
Storage is a simple solution, use external ssd which has decent prices.
Just my thoughts on it, if people want to upgrade a air your better off with a pro and comes with much better screen/display (for both work and entertainment),frames (pro motion) and sound which I would think be a much better deal vs a air in same price.
apple: the ai can help u
schools/college: we found u using ai and insta fail u 😾
at long last 2 monitors!!!! now add a hyperlink on the side and it is the perfect laptop! gotta trade in my m2 now ! unless the 12 inch returns!
ps: any future greg video? pleazzzz
They need to unlock my m2 for 2 displays
A firmware upgrade is likely sooner than later to allow this.
Wait a sec. Are the fingerprints permanent on your old macbook?!
M2 15 inch here, not worth upgrading right?
Not worth update unless going for pro so your fine ☺️
no
What about the basic MacBook Pro M3? Does it support two external monitors?
Did you miss that entire section?
macbook pro M3 base model only support 1
Killed trade in values being those down to 1k
Yea this is exactly why I was scrambling to sell my m2 air (8/512gb)after getting the 18/512 m3pro.. dropped the price down from 950 to 860 last week and had it sold in three days. Had used it for 6 months but the thing was still mint.
Your last thought
Is the right call
I still have the Mac Book Air INTEL (2020) .. so this would be a huge upgrade for me!
Damn my MacBook Air discontinued less than a year after release and 5 months of ownership.
😂
They are still selling the MB Air M2, but now at $999. The MB Air M1 is 3.5 years old and obviously was due for retirement!
@@andyH_England I have the m2 15in bought it black Friday
@@game2572 A great laptop. There are improvements on the M3, but nothing that most ultrabook users will be disappointed at missing. Obviously if you are buying now, I would recommend the M3, but like you I have an M2 and it is only 8 months old so I see no need to upgrade this cycle.
What is AI on this PC lol
Watching this on a M2 macbook air....
Same. hahah . guess I'll wait to for M4 before upgrade. This M2 version been out less than a year.

Hi Greg!! 👋
Hello 👋
BTW, I forgot to mention.. I enjoy your enthusiasm and genuine love for what you’re doing… far better than most tech reviewers. Screw what anyone else says, I think you’re pretty great :)
The M3 MBP didn’t use one NAND chip so the MBA probably won’t either
It started at 512gb though with 2, 256gb drives. So the M3 Air will likely have the slower drive.
@@GregsGadgets but the drive speeds have increased so there might not be. Also the M3 iMac doesn’t have the slower speeds of the M2 series if Im recalling correctly
@@chidorirasenganz m3 imac 256gb still have the same speed like 256gb m2 cip macbook (1500mbps read write)
@@GregsGadgets For the majority of people buying the base model, the sequential speeds of the SSD will be more than enough.

16gb instead
you mean 18gb right

Normals will be fine with a Apple MacBook Air. With the new M3 now out we have the loss of the last design that Steve Job was part of. Loved it when he pulled the orginal MacBook Air out of the interoffice envelope. RIP Steve
This was huuuuuuge! Standard 8GB RAM MacBook Pro in 2024? Courage or consumer disrespect?
It's a shame you can't run a single modern display on a macbook air as thunderbolt has too little bandwidth to drive one. (no 4k 120)
That is not a limitation of the thunderbolt protocol.
@@5GRoboIt absolutely is. HDMI 2.1 has a higher bandwidth than thunderbolt, and a 4k120hz display requires almost all of that hdmi 2.1 bandwidth, which thunderbolt does not have. HDMI 2.1 is 48Gb/s and Thunderbolt 4 is 40Gb/s.
@@definingslawek4731 I see. Thanks for the explanation. 👍

Which one is value for money? M1 or M3? I don’t want M2 cuz one of my friend got it and review wasn’t good
???
They don't sell the M1 anymore, so it depends on the price, but M3 should be solid. Not sure why your friend didn't like the M2 tho
What is the low quality anecdotal evidence man the m2 is great especially now that a bunch will be lower price. If you want pure value you can get an m1.
m1 refurbished looking like the best deal rn
M3 all the way
Nice
I am surprised that like the M1 and M2 MacBook Airs the new base level M3 MacBook air is misconfigured by Apple to give it sub-optimal performance. There is no excuse for only providing a 256 Gb SSD or only 8 Gb of RAM in any laptop costing more than $1,000 in 2024. A big problem in the UK and I guess also in America is that retail outlets only sell the 256 Gb flash/ 8 Gb RAM models and so it takes a real effort to buy a properly configured MacBook from a store.
Apple are also still providing too little flash storage in the standard models of iPhone. I challenge anyone to find anything other than the 64 Gb iPhone SE 5G 2022 in a retail outlet. I would also challenge anyone to find an Android phone with less than 128 GB flash at the iPhone SE 5G 2022's price point.
The decreasing cost of PC SSDs still follows Moore's law and so I am certain that it costs less to manufacture a 512 GB M3 MacBook Air than it did to manufacture a 256 Gb M1 MacBook Air.
The monitor thing pisses me off so bad
Won't pay much for Mac anymore. I have had many Mac and spent too much. From now on, I will only buy the cheapest macmini.
Apple still slapping people in the face with 256GB storage. This sick side show is very funny. Keep doing this apple. Keep doing this.
I think most people still ok with 256gb of storage, we can used external drive to save data.. the worst part is, it's still coming with 8gb of RAM!!
My MB Pro 13 M1 only uses 60GB of the 256GB, and any higher config would be a waste. Some people are different, and many of us use a base MB Air as a Chromebook alternative, which destroys the best Chromebooks out there. Well, 3.5 years after buying my MB Air M1 base model, I have had no issues and have never had issues with speed, RAM, or SSD capacity.
The qs is. Base is still 8GB RAM isn’t it? And any discount M2 from third party sellers would also be 8GB machines won’t it?
I need to run virtualisation so basically it’s 12GB or higher = more 💰
Apple is now selling 16GB/512GB models off the shelf, which they have never done before. So it is possible that third-party resellers will discount these in due course assuming Apple supplies that variant to them.
@@andyH_England Thanks for that. I’m a long term Mac user that went back to Windows as the whole RAM and pricing thing annoyed me but truth be told I miss a Mac.
midnight is so pretty
M1 and M2 should be available at a lower price to all students who are needing to buy a new laptop
They already do, its called the student discount
@ghost-user559 Yes, but it will be even cheaper now the new model has come out. 🥳
It’s cheaper now! $1399 AUD for a base model 13” Air M2 with education pricing - I was gonna buy one last week but am glad I’ve waited. No need for an M3 for my use, 1 external monitor + my iPad Pro with sidecar is plenty for my needs
Imho, M1 Air has better design than M2 Air
Yup, just got a $630 discount on a new m3 air 10 core 24 gb because Apple is my ditch. 👈🏻😉
Meanwhile I am rocking the M1 macbook air.
Yawn ... I'll replace my 3 year old M1 MBA with a M3 then, all other than that ... they do what they're supposed to and the battery is starting to fall apart after 3 years of daily use.
I only charge 80%, and my battery health has remained>90% after 3.5 years (MB Pro 13 M1 base).
MacBook Air looks very cheap built, that’s why I pick the MacBook Pro.
me maby ill trade in my m1 since i get student discount and am getting college aid moneys to pay for school shit
apple trade in being only 500 for my 1tb m1 with 16 gb ram 😾
I just farted
Still no face i.d.
its hard to put a face id technology on a thin screen, If apple what to do that, macbook monitor need to be as thick as iphone
Laziest upgrade ever. EPIC FAIL
its a normal upgred.. macbook redesign in 4 or 5 years and just swap the cip every years.. do you remember macbook with intel cip? they swap the cip 1 to 2 time every years with the same chassie
Am I the only one who thinks this is a shit product? My 2017 MacBook Pro can have 4 4K displays while my screen is one….why would I pay more money for something that does less?
Battery life, speed of the processor, graphics. I mean number of screens is only one metric
2017 macbook can support 4 monitor, but can its edit 8k RED RAW footage easily? how much time needed for your macbook to randering 4k footage?
The M3 MacBooks will destroy your 2017 Intel machine in every regard. Remember you are comparing the base MB Air with your MB Pro. The MB Pro M3 Max supports 3+1 monitors.
For the life of me I just don’t understand why they don’t include ethernet, hdmi ports or a touchscreen. It’s really mind boggling for the price point. The mac mini is half the price with those ports available and it’s super portable. Crazy.
Touchscreen on laptop is gross, and for HDMI and Ethernet just get dongle for them and leave them on the cables.
