I've had a lot of time to prepare for this knowing it was coming. My last cover of it was really out there as far as the style and changes made and much like I have with previous re-covers, I opted this time to aim for close to the original and only enhance things that I felt wouldn't comprimise the original feel. I watched so much content in prep for this including Jun's own playthrough of the song to make sure I was much closer this time around to the actual song's riffs. Overall it was really nice to work with less instrument tracks than I normally do so I could really let everything shine and take up as much headroom as possible.
I've been also very hard at work rearranging some of my studio in hopes to keep my videos free of objects in the background from taking focus away from the subject. Opting for studio music videos for all of these has really allowed me to focus in and try and get the best out of the space for these videos.
I'm curious how people will react to the stabilize effect on Caleb. While I really felt like it was jarring, I overall really liked it as opposed to the stationary camera and I felt like it gave the video a much more dynamic and hype feel. I'm sure it'll be a decision not liked by others, but I really felt stoked about it this time around. Davinci Resolve makes things like that much easier to pull off and since I moved to it from Premiere over the past few months, I'm really enjoying learning to elements to introduce to these videos.

Thanks so much for watching and huge thanks to one of my best friends Caleb Hyles for doing such an amazing job on this. As I've done with these top 20 video game songs, I took an approach to more closely emulate the original than try and completely rearrange it. Upon uploading, there's been a good amount of comments complaining about the stabilization effect I put on him and I totally understand. It was a risk for those sensitive to the movement, but I ultimately decided to keep it as my shots have movement and it made Caleb's look stale in comparison. I ran a poll on my community page as to whether or not I should reupload without the effect and over 80% of people said that they liked it and I should keep it. So for those who felt it was a bit jarring, I'm very sorry and you won't see this effect much if at all in the future, but I'm going to keep this version up. Thanks so much for understanding.

Sonic Adventure 2 has some of the best music in video games ever and "Live And Learn" is easily top 3 of Sonic music. Your other version was great but I'm glad you kept it closer to the original on this one which is that classic 80's hard rock/hair metal sound that the singer of Crush 40 plays with his band Hardline. A total blast from the past in so many different ways.
While I disagree that "Live and Learn" is one of Sonic's best, I wholeheartedly agree that SA2 has one of the best soundtracks ever. 🎵💜🎵
Of course that version had to cover the fact that the singer has a more lower vocal range and also a more heavier taste and personality (not insulting him by the way since i do like that version too)
As someone who listens to this song WAY more often than I really should... this is a surprisingly good cover of it. Like... really.
Why did SA2 have SUCH good music, anyway? Vocal songs are fairly rare when it comes to video game OSTs, and yet somehow SA2 has like... an absurd amount of them, and nearly all of them are genuinely good songs as well. Honestly, though, Sega's always been kind of underrated when it comes to music. There's so many great tracks that have come out of stuff like the sonic franchise, SoA, Yakuza/LaD/Judgment, etc. - People tend to always think of Nintendo and SE when it comes to amazing video game OSTs, but honestly, Sega really does kind of stand up there with them, it's just that most of their music is less "fantasy" sounding.
Sonic, as a general rule, does not miss when it comes to the music, and never has. The members of the dev team responsible for the music simply go “what if I went way harder than anyone expects me to?” and this has somehow worked for 30+ years and counting. Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. This is just my two cents.
Developers like to save vocal tunes for special moments and credits, with the only exception i know where most songs are vocal being Guilty Gear -STRIVE- (another amazing ost btw)
but yeah. sonic always has a banger up it's sleeve, and you gotta commemorate it.

LOVED the cover, and the stabilization effect on Caleb made me feel like we were face to face and staring each other down, like people do before a fight. It was a very visceral feeling. Great for such an in-your-face cover. The effect definitely has its place.
I watched the original Japanese version of Sonic X back in the day with a friend of mine, and the anime adapted Sonic Adventure 1's and 2's stories into it. When it came to the final battle against the Bio Lizard outside Space Colony ARK, Live and Learn kicked in, however, it went halfway through the song before we realized what was playing because we were watching the show in Japanese, and we quickly looked at each other in shock and said in unison, "OH MY GOD, IT'S LIVE AND LEARN!!". We jammed to the song as we watched the scene play out, it was great.
Live and Learn is an iconic song, and remains one of my favorites to this day!! Thank you for this amazing cover!!

Awesome cover! The stabilize effect as you called it on Caleb is a little weird to me(I’m much more used to stationary style Caleb had used on his videos) but it’s pretty neat. It’s a cool effect and I like it.

Love the double vocals, keeping one of the vocal lines true to the original melody, while making arrangments on the other make for a very compact and consistent vocal line. Awesome job!

Really awesome version, Caleb absolutely killed it! I think I still have a soft spot for the version you did with Jonathan Young though, the key change and overall heavier feel made it feel like a more unique "you" version if that makes sense. But this one is still great!
