- Trek's Remedy platform was first introduced way back in 2008, and since then it's been their ready-for-anything all-mountain machine with enough travel to get you out of trouble but not enough to keep you from wanting to pedal it up the side of a mountain.
That rings true for the latest version, too, and while the 2019 Remedy looks similar to its predecessors, it sports some noteworthy changes in the geometry and suspension departments.

love my '19 remedy 8. havent had a single issue with the knock block. i ride in the high setting and barely get any pedal strikes anymore. this bike is an amazing climber
I'm looking to buy a '19 remedy aswell. I'm new to full suspension mountain bikes so bear with me. What do you mean by high setting? Is that an adjustment to the suspension?

@@toddmerriott6901 i dont really care about bike titles. its a long travel bike that can run big tires, good pedaling efficiency, and adjustable geometry. this years geometry for trail bikes was previously reserved for enduro bikes. dont worry what the industry labels these things as.
Iâve got the trek remedy 9 RSL 2017 model, bought second hand from a trail centre. I absolutely love it, machine both up and down the hills. Never had an issue with the knock block on it. Fantastic bike!

I actually find the knockblock super useful. Not only does it stop you from damaging your bike in a crash but it helps to hold you bike up by stopping the wheel from twisting round and causing the bike to topple over when against something, only disadvantage I've found with it is you can't do a lot of tricks because of it, but I'm no good at them anyway.
i didn't like the knock block at first but its definitely growing on me, its great when you wanna throw whips. really snaps the back end out

I can't say its a long travel trail bike Trek remedy is an all mountain/Enduro bike from what its designed for but now they just make it more capable
a real enduro bike has 29in wheels. Hate to say it, I've owned three Remedies and loved them all but ik I would be better suited for a race on a slash.
@@OwenHeh when it comes to racing it all depends now on your personal preferences cause some pro riders still won on their 27.5 choice of bike. and for real 27.5 are the original wheel size for enduro but you can't classify an enduro bike by its wheel size, its by geo and sus travel.
@@jaysealenduro5618 i didn't say a 29er is automatically an enduro. I understand what makes an enduro bike. An overwhelming majority of enduro racers ride 29/mullet bikes at least. The speed advantages are undeniable, which is what is important in a race. I ride a remedy, i love it. Its no enduro bike
Nothing wrong with the knock block. To put it into perspective you should be more worried about that delicate piece of kit hanging off the right side of your rear wheel, than breaking the knock block. Lots of people complain and worry about it, but how many people are having issues? Not many at all, google it. I love my remedy, slug the climbs, shred the descents.
I agree. I have a Fuel EX 7, and the Knock Blocks are not easy to deal with.

Bike felt great on a test ride, ended up getting a Kona Process 167 though. Remedy 8 has to be one of the best all round trail bikes out there.

My previous remedy was a pogo stick that blew through the travel. 26" era
Problem for me is when you go beyond the 3.5k price point I don't see why you wouldn't buy a boutique bike like yeti, pivot, evil, etc. Big house brands performance value shine in the $2-3k range. Remember, with a bike, the primary purchase is the frame and is geometry and suspension characteristics. It's only worth so much. Beyond that is just components.

I love my new 2019 Trek, and they're a good LBS. Wish their bikes weren't so freaking expensive tho.
I just ordered a 2020 remedy, and I personally think that Trek bikes are really well priced for what they offer. I went for the 9.7 model and I had it for 3400âŹ, which is a great deal in my opinion.
To get that build kit on a yeti or Santa Cruz you'd be paying 8k+ on a Kona you'd pay 8k and not even get those components
Rather than seeing the best of the best spec, I'd like to see the more budget friendly bike; alloy frame and lower cost components, to see if it will ride and feel just as good. Thanks.
Hi man, I have the remedy 8, which is the lowest version. It has alu frame, eagle, the lyric fork and deluxe shock and the bike feels amazing. Riding it for about 8 months and I am loving it. The only thing I hate is the knock block. I destroyed it on the first crash..but how i wrote, the bike is amazing!

Curious, last yearâs model got mediocre reviews, especially as a climber. How is a longer travel fork combined with a slacker HT creating a better climber? Yes, the seat tube is steeper which should help but it doesnât address the backend. The move away from the floating shock is said to improve stiffness- not that the previous iteration was in real need of a fix. Does the new thru shaft have better motion control? The old bike, admittedly, pogos too much when climbing out of the saddle or putting power down on any setting other than locked.
Christopher Barnickel hands down its the shock. Trek nailed the tune for sure
How does the remedy compare to the 2019 giant trance 27.5?
unSTEVOED remedy is better in every way except weight. I test rode both, as well as a few other bikes, before buying the remedy.

When he said âtaken off half a degree on the head angleâ did he mean it is now slacker than before? Or less slack?
I think its less slacker . Because if you do 66.5 + .5 it would be 67° so the old model was like a trail bike whit 140 mm up front
But if theyâve âtaken off .5â that would go to a lower number. Meaning further away from 90degrees which would mean slacker?
This is the first review Iâve seen that says anything about head tube angle changing.

Actually trek website says âhead tube 66â but it doesnât say where the mino link is.
So I think they may have made a mistake.
Maybe itâs 66 and 66.5 in the steep setting. Which I think is the same as last year.

My hardtail can handle anything at Whistler. This thing would be like landing on a memory foam mattress
This bike would be completely fine at whistler, if feeling a little small compared to the big dh bikes. If you can live with being a little less stable then, yeah, totally fine. There is an argument that basically any mountain bike could be ridden down any mountain bike trail, its just a matter of skill, but some are more suited for specific things than others (hence the categories).

Alright, so the remedy is the same bike as the Slash except 27.5 vs 29. Same travel guys. That canât be your argument for saying the Slash is the enduro race bike they both are. The slash has a 0.5° slacker HT angle on the low Mino Link setting

You'll never get as good a spec on the Bronson. It will be way more money!! Santacruz is out of their minds right now on pricing and spec. Remedy 9.8 is a WAY better value.

I have the 9.8 , most notable difference it has the new lyric up front instead of the fox , same shock . Enjoying the bike .
Interesting comments on the shock, I came off the 2017 remedy 9.8 and the new shock feels very different . On the old one I was running 3 volume spacers and using all the travel. The new one I currently have the max 2 volume spacers , running 35 % sag ( 30 feels a bit harsh to me ) feels great, but only getting through about 80 % travel on the bigger hits on most rides . So there is a curiosity should I be using more or is that ok.
If you are not using full travel but like the beginning of the stroke, just take out one volume spacer and keep the same pressure.
Whaaaaaat??? I have the exact same bike! With 30% percent Sag i tend top bottom out a lot... I have a Gnardog-spacer (=2.5 Spacers) installed wich is max for that shock :/ i weigh 75kg/160 Pounds
NANOUK MAGNUS that is weird , in the beginning, when the bike was new , I tried to install the gnar dog token , wouldnât fit , emailed rockshox and they replied due to the piggy bank , it only fits 2 standard tokens , there isnât room for the gnar dog .
Also Iâm 85 kilos ,sounds like our shocks are behaving very differently.

@@LukasDePraga done that and went through more travel today , certainly a different feeling shock than previous remedys , you dont have to fill it with tokens to get that plush feel
I got 2014 Trek Fuel Ex 29er, two of them in fact, and same issue on both, bent hanger eventually failure, chain worn after 80km, side to side rocking, more to the left, probably due to asymetric chain stay, and more issues.
and flex is probably due to too flexy rear of chain stay and very flexy seat stay, and possibly flex in chain stay in the rear,but front was stiff,
but I haven't tried their 27.5 bikes nor the new bikes with knock block.
but I can see why they improved stiffness.
I see the new frames have beefier chain stays,seat stays, and front triangle is beefier too, but the linkage design is still quite similar, so not sure if bearings will be pushed out or not like on mine.
but I see people still get loose bolts in the the rear of the rocker link.
but I agree with the knock block, but slacker, longer bikes don't need it.
how was the stiffness of the Remedy? how was the chain wear?, which will also relate to the stiffness, I guess it will be a lot better than before.
I have a 2014 Fuel EX 8 and a 2018 Remedy 9.8. Chain wear may depend on a number of things. First is maintenance. Poor maintenance usually means more wear. Second is lube choice.
I'll admit that on my Fuel EX 8, I changed out to an XT cassette, but the OEM HG-51 is a solid (but heavy) cassette. In terms of durability, the HG-51 is much stronger than the XT.
I clean my bikes after every ride, mostly because I store them inside the house where there's carpet so the bike has to be clean. Second, wet lubes is what most people use because it's the easiest to apply and least hassle to use (as opposed to dry drip lubes).
Wet lubes in general have some of the worst wear characteristics. Although when fresh they do a good job at repelling water (due to the petroleum base), it also attracts the most amount of dirt and grit, turning the lube into an abrasive paste. If you don't believe me, take a clean, fresh wet lubed bike out for a spin around the block a couple of times, even on the tarmac. When you return, wipe down the chain with a clean white rag/towel/paper towel and you can see that the chain is quite dirty.
Wet lubes also suffer from absorption, meaning dirt and grit actually absorb (or wicks) the wet lube leaving less lube on the chain. As you ride even a fresh wet lubed chain, the natural articulation and chain deflection will squeeze some of the lube out, you can see this simply by working the chain side to side just a little.
If you insist on using a wet lube, Silica NFS is my top pick. It's been tested to show the best wear rate for a wet lube. However if you are the lazy type where you don't want to use a chain scrubber device after every ride and prefer a lube that cleans and lowers friction, Rock N Roll Extreme has very strong cleaners and leaves behind a very good film. However you will have to use RnR more often. I'd suggest picking up a chain scrubber device like a Park Tool CM-5.2, use a mix of degreaser/water or dish soap and water. Clean often, re-lube immediately (before your chain starts to rust).
Dry lubes. They are more of a hassle than using a wet lube and nearly all of them require a curing time, usually a few hours to overnight to set properly. They tend to keep the chain cleaner but will eventually gunk up, but the articulation of the chain will usually push the grimed up gunk away from friction areas. Squirt or Smoove are very good dry lubes in my testing.

@@JNOTECH it does not help me because I do proper maintaince, and I have have tested compared chain wear on same model of chain on two different bikes my 6300, fuel ex. And I clean my bikes well, I use Finish line crunge brush if. I do a rally muddy ride, but other wise u wipe off and lube chain, I clean and lube all my bikes the same way. I use kmc digital chain checker.
I have tested several lubes, Rock n roll wet lube is useless for wet, raining, snow rides, takes short time and lube is gone, the thin lubes don't work that well. So far Muc Off wet lube is a good allrounder, brutal rain, deep snow, puddles, mud, it performed well, you can check my reviews, which includes ride logs, videos, pictures and more.
@@JNOTECH it may depend on the weight of the rider, I know I don't do anything wrong, can you explain how broken and bent hangers relate to chain wear? It does not. My bike is too flexy for me, it's not built to handle rider of my weight riding hard. I Know how fast the chain wears on my hardtail, and know how fast it wears on my fuel ex, on the fuel ex it's 80km, on the 6300 it last for a long time. I have reviewed, and described and tested things well, in great detail. I got reviews on my site. But I don't have any scientific proof of exactly what's going on, but I am pretty surtain, and I have my theories, but I am of course not mad.

@@JNOTECH I haven't tried Smoove, but I read the reviews, might try it. But the lubes I use are not the scourse of the problem. Lube can't make the chain stay flexy, bearings come out, or bend hangers at regular basis. I say poor design, engeneering.

They all do that but the Remedy frame is extra stiff thus transfering more of that energy to the fork... As far as I can tell haha.

Dual crown on a remedy I wanna see it
The knockBlock is a showstopper for me. I have to get the bike in a car and in Europe we don't use yuuuge trucks, so I need to remove front wheel and lay it flat. If the bars don't turn 90 degrees than it won't fit, sorry. Other than that, Slash/Remedy in that TREK Racing Red is pretty tasty.
Luke my 29er slash fits the trunk of my opel astra (not the station wagon) easily even with the knock block!

@@macgyver996 I do not want to strap bike to the outside of the car. It gets dirty in the rain, can be stolen easily, the rack gets in the way when backing up or you can drive somewhere you don't fit with bike on roof and just crash and the fuel consumption and noise go way up. I always had my bike inside of the car and I am not seeing it changing anytime soon.

I understand that theyâre after a stiffer downtube, but surely a small curve toward the headtube wouldnât be too detrimental to the overall stiffness? I really do feel that this hampers the bike and also, I have seen people crash and it damage the knock block and the fork still hit the downtube. They didnât even want to warranty it, even when it didnât do its job!
Trek, FFS, ditch the knock block and just curve the downtube. The rest of the bike is stunning.

Knock Block is pretty important if you have the carbon frame so you don't screw yourself on a fall. It's sad they didn't make a frame that would avoid breaking itself if you over-rotated the bars. I guess you have to have some kindof compromise but this isn't it chief.

Trek Knock Block Broke My Scaphoid Bone. Mfer. That being said, I still love my Trek Top Fuel.
Instead my bars going around my thumb caught the bar funny and when it hit the knock block it was then that the pressure hit my scaphoid bone and snapped it pretty distal. Got some hardware for that one now. Dammit..

Big lie. It isnât a long travel trail bike.
It is an enduro or min. trail-enduro.
I own the remedy and hitting all jumps in bike parks and shred down the roughest trails.
One day enduros have 150-170mm travel and another day 160/150mm are long travel trail bikes. Are kidding me.

Noc block is ridic, just design a frame right and you don't need that.

you can route your cables really tidy
I actually like it. The bar has more than enough movement, and in the event of a crash you don't have to worry about your hoses and cables getting pulled out from the bar after it going 360. It's also great for just sitting on your bike while chatting with someone without worrying about the bars randomly twisting, I find I keep one hand on the bars on any other bike. I never feel like it's a hindrance. That alone makes the pros outweigh the cons.
Good luck with a crash. The bar cant move out the was with the Knock Block and Metal vs Slim ... Yeah youll see how that goes.
@@raupenimmersatt6906 I've crashed a few times on my Remedy. I felt like the nocblok made the crashes less worse than they could have been. On a strong enough impact the bar could snap and you could be impaled, sure, but in a crash like that many things could happen that can kill you. On an average typical crash, I feel more comfortable with the knock block. I've been in some annoying crashes involving the bar going all the way around, but on the trek the crash isn't as bad due to it. Maybe I've just been lucky. At this point, I think it's down to personal preference. I don't think there's a right or wrong here.
Guys, I have remedy 8 and I love it. But the knock block shit? I dont understand, why they did it. Its absolutely stupid. When i had this bike about two months, i crashed just a little bit (no kidding, it was a little and funny crash) and the knock block thing was broken to pieces..so i dont have this system anymore. I think they should go and design a normal frame and dont continue in this shitty thing.... But still...i love my Remedy.

No. Their builds are very in line with other builders this year! They're doing a great job. Santa Cruz are the ones that are out of their minds. Their bikes are stupid expensive and the builds aren't even that great.
