  • Welcome back to the channel
In this weeks video I show you how to replace a bad starter motor on a 2008 VW Volkswagen Golf City with a 2 L motor mated it to a 6 feet automatic. This is definitely a job that you can do in the driveway to save yourself some money provided of course you take the necessary safety precautions and watch the video of course. I hope you find it entertaining as well as informative, if you do please hit that subscribe button to support my work.
As always thanks for watching we will see you in the next one...

Thank you for the very entertaining video. Im at the last bracket in my 2006 beetle 2.5 and can't figure out how to move the thing. I can get it just past the starter stud but not move it enough to get to the starter bolt to remove it. The bracket must be attached somewhere else that I can't see. Its so tight in there. Your video shows great shots of the actual bracket but Im not sure if mine is the same. I got the upper one off no problem that holds the wires. Back at it again today in Manitoba on the snow-no garage- no lift

Oh man Manitoba in winter with no lift or a shop, my heart goes out to you. Unfortunately I don't know what the 25 bracket looks like but knowing Volkswagen there's probably some other stupid thing that is holding it. I would recommend going inside warming up a bit and searching on Google to see what the bracket might look like. Sometimes the bracket might have a electrical connector or another stupid bolt holding it somewhere that is out of sight if you have smaller hands you might be able to feel around. Godspeed. Good luck and I hope you have fixed it by now

@@JimmysAutoClinic Thanks for answering. I guess mine is a little different as its a 2.5. That bracket was holding that rigid tube but I was able to get in there from underneath and pry it enough with a pry bar and get it out of the way. Was hoping I could get it back on. Got it and starter installed. My issue now- car starts every time but dies after 1 second. The immobilizer light was flashing but that is no longer on. Ive done all the hacks from CZcams about getting rid of that light but still same symptom. I connected everything. Went back twice and rechecks. I just don't know.

So the rigid pipe was it an air duct? Most likely you might have moved a potential connector wire by accident that has to do with the intake. Or you could have cracked an intake pipe which could be causing an ear leak. I would disconnect the mass air flow sensor to see if it works. If it starts up and runs then you have an issue with air fuel ratio, which could be something like a vacuum leak or an broken intake hose.

@@JimmysAutoClinic I don't think I cracked a pipe. I was right on the bracket itself. It only needed to move a 1/4" which it did when I could reach it with the pry bar. Its the bracket that attaches to the bottom bolt of the starter. I just went out and tried again and still starts very well but just dies again; exactly what it was doing with the immobilizer light flashing. I was frustrated about the immobilizer light but excited when that went out and now this. Ill try unplugging the MAF and see how that goes. Ill cross my fingers and toes

Do you know where to find the backup light switch? Thanks

Hello my friend. Usually the backup light switch is on the neutral safety switch which is on the selector for the automatic transmissions I'm not 100% sure about this particular transmission but the majority of the time that is where the backup switch is located it is one unit that it does all of these different jobs. It usually doesn't fail so whatever the issue is I would definitely check everything else before replacing it unless the part is cheap of course LOL. I hope this helps.

I got the starter at a local Rebuilder who I've been using for approximately 20 years so I trust them. If you are in Toronto you can reach out and I can set you up with their information.
