- Battle Brothers is an amazing turn-based tactical RPG, where you build up a band of mercenaries and roam the land, for fortune and glory. It is also brutally difficult. In this complete beginners guide to Battle Brothers, I will explain to you the basics from the ground up by starting a brand new campaign so you can watch and even play along. I will explain the controls, the UI, the mechanics, how to battle, quest, manage your inventory and resources, and explore the map. I detail my thought process, sharing tips and tricks along the way but I spoil nothing about the game or the story. I don't force a particular path or tell you to min/max, but rather help by providing the fundamentals so you can enjoy Battle Brothers at your own pace. If you are thinking of buying the game and want to see early gameplay, or have purchased it but would like some pointers on the basics, this is the guide for you! I will be playing with no DLCs or mods--vanilla Battle Brothers!
This guide then goes beyond the basics and into further territory that I am less familiar with as viewers and myself wanted to see more content :) When we get beyond the basics, I am still explaining my thought process and showing new content, but I am often learning along with you (and from your comments!) so the later episodes take on a different tone.

Idk, chief, even on the most basicest of difficulties I just can't seem to get past the initial week: whether it's bad luck, the wrong encounter I can't flee from or whatever else, I get only two or three fights before the death spiral kicks in.
It is a brutal game. Some doods will die. I recommend getting more bros quickly and sticking to the lowest level contracts to level up. Even try for caravan escort quests as you don't have to fight a lot of the time in those and can get good money to buy gear and more bros. Save often and just abandon fights that look hopeless until you are getting better at the game. It can be done! It is just a brutal game haha
@@DrIncompetent I think my biggest hurdle so far has been understanding the money curve to gauge when to take a contract, when to sell equipment, to recruit troops and how many
I am fine with a brutal game, not with one in which I don't understand what I do wrong and why xD
I've tried all manners of different approaches and the result was always the same: had to restart the campaign by the end of week 1
@@talscorner3696 a few things I've gleaned in my nearly 1000 hours playing BB to make it past week 1:
A. Only fight humanoids (Brigand Thugs are the easiest) and gather their equipment for use or sale. Beasts will shred you, avoid them if at all possible.
B. Equip your brothers with spears/swords (for added accuracy) and shields.
C. Only take 1 skull contracts in towns. I avoid caravan missions early because you're locked into the caravan and can't avoid fights. Focus on contracts that are "fetch" quests, "return my coin/crystal skull/book/staff etc." these will typically have you fighting brigands.
D. Avoid buying expensive items in towns. I typically only buy food and tools in towns when I absolutely have to or possibly a damaged weapon (spears/swords) and repair it if I am lacking a weapon to equip for battle.
E. Spend some money on buying additional brothers. In the early game I try to find brothers w/ stars in Melee Attack/Melee Defense/Fatigue or Health and develop them in leveling and give them the best equipment. I find Farmers and Thieves to be good early recruits. Brothers with undesireable stats will be used as fodder/human shields to assist anyway possible. Don't over recruit, 4 to 6 brother in the first week should be plenty.

Same bro, i just cant find a way to success in this game, even when things are going well, just a simple barbarian or orc encounter and its over. I eventually went to Wartales. Though game but a lot more forgiving than Battle Brothers. Still, ill give BB another chance

I've had this game on my wishlist for the longest time and I'm so tempted to grab it - people have said they sink hundreds of hours in. Do you recommend the DLC or can it be enjoyed vanilla too? Loving this first video, can't wait to binge the series!

Do you have any chance of experiencing consistent enjoyment and reaching the endgame without beforehand spending dozens of attempts and hundreds of hours to gain sufficient experience to being able to minmax micromanage every little perk, stat and gear?
You certainly don't have to be perfect and min/max to win at this difficulty level, but you will have to grind a bit to level up, get good gear, and have a full squad. It's not a horrible grind though, just do some lower missions until you feel strong enough to move up!
imo starting on expert is best, better to just get used to it right away.

This is a fair tutorial for understanding the basic gameplay and mechanics; however, it was easy to pick up on this stuff after the first couple hours of playing.

Haha, you do have to improve for sure! But there is a lot in this so it's a whole guide series. Many players find this game to be quite challenging--including myself haha. Most people looking for help want more than "Get Good" and actually despise when people suggest this with no context as it is condescending and unhelpful. So I try to have my series actually explain how to get better because the game really is more fun when you understand the basics and can win some fights!
