Another fascinating episode hearing about the development of Cel Damage. Also, yeah, the Duke controller was awful to say the least lol. Having just played this game for my “Underrated GameCube Games” episode, it really is a fun game that is worth checking out! Awesome episode again man!

Dude, these episodes really take me back. Very well researched, written, and delivered, sir!

Yeah.... I remember overlooking this back in the day because of just how 'unpolished' it looked. The fact the presentation was outsourced with 3 months to go explains a lot!

It's basically a very cartoony version of Twisted Metal and I love it

I actually have an opportunity to obtain a PAL copy of the game. Other reviewers have me convinced that Cel Damage is worth more than a curiosity, but the development history and it's pedigree alone has me very intrigued. So thank you Chroncube!

One of those games where I’d see the box art but never check out. Cool to hear some background history on it.

I remember being pretty interested in this game after I read a review in a magazine, but I never saw it on shelves in any of my local stores. Looks like me and my friends missed out on a pretty fun multiplayer game.

Not having played it myself, the impression I always got from this game was that it was so-so and basically carried by the artstyle.
After actually seeing the gameplay in action I am getting an itch to try it for myself. I've been missing short and sweet games that you can pick up for an hour or two and put back down again.

I have this game and was trying to play it with my kids. It's weird and fun, but a little bit simple.

Got this game for the Xbox when I started checking into that console in the last half decade but I never actually got around to playing it so this was at least a good reminder that I have it lol

The capture for this episode was actually the first time I tried Wacky Races on the DC. I had written it off as a simple kart racer but was floored when presented with a Diddy Kong Racing/Crash Team Racing style over world instead. It looks like you might be in for a treat with that one.

the OG xbox was wonderful when hacked, and that was done so easily compared to consoles these days (I think? I've not been involved in the homebrew scene for quite a while). Having a literal pc under the tv was really cool at the time. I never knew MS released any GC games though, that's kinda wild, considering how console exclusivity was the de facto standard in those days.
edit: I had to add a lol at the literal X-shaped xbox, what on earth is that!? 😂

Oh that’s the prototype shell they showed at GDC 2000. And while MS didn’t explicitly publish Cel Damage they certainly funded a lot of the development up to a point before cutting it loose. It’s sorta one that got away. To their competitors advantage.
