The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square present "Deep River" with lyrics by Marta Keen and arrangement by Mack Wilberg.
Episode 4401. Aired January 19, 2014 - Hudba
I must have a soul, because this music truly speaks to it. So grateful for this.
In 1972, our high school lost 3 students in a car crash. Our chorus sang this song at all 3 funerals.
And, I can only imagine this is similar to what we'll hear when we ARE crossing over. Heavenly.
I can feel your pain, but I hope this spiritual brings healing.
This is such a beautiful song. Your chorus must have left everyone with tears in their eyes. I can just imagine that.
I'm not a Mormon, but this choir is a great gift to America. I used to listen to them just to calm down when I felt overwhelmed. Such sweet heavenly music. Wilberg really took the choir to new heights.
It's impossible for me to hear this without tears showing up on my cheeks.
A song of deep longing for the final return... home. May that time in our lives be one very much like this beautiful spiritual.
Lyrics
Deep River,
My home is over Jordan.
Deep River, Lord.
I want to cross over into campground.
Deep River.
My home is over Jordan.
Deep River, Lord,
I want to cross over into campground
Oh or don't you want to go,
To that Gospel feast;
That Promised Land,
Where all is peace?
Deep River,
My home is over Jordan.
Oh, Deep River, Lord,
I want to cross over
I want to cross over
I want to cross over
Into campground.
A mezzo soprano sung this song at my Father's funeral in Birmingham, AL. This version is beautiful too.
This performance makes me want to pray.
I agree with Brock. .Beautiful slow-moving, blended voices calms me.
Thank you Tabernacle Choir for singing this song. The song truly touches my soul and makes me cry.
I don't know how they sing all theses soul touching songs. I can't even listen to them without my soul weeping. Some of these I have heard for more than 50 years. But on the first note the tears begin to flow.
I saw Tennessee Ernie Ford sing this song in 1957 on TV. It was a beautiful version of it, the first time I ever heard it. Yesterday I played this on the piano for others to hear when we were in a flash flood watch. Today I find that the river is going down again and the danger appears to be passing.
Every time I want to be closer to heaven I just listen to this choir. My Favorite choir. It gives me chills of awe.
you said exactly how i feel.....thank you.
I was playing this on the piano and wanted to hear a good choral rendition.
As soon as it started, I was reduced to tears .... and I'm not a particularly emotional person.
The performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra just resonated deep in my soul.
A recording I often listen to when I feel my struggles are weighing me down
Oh, I understand what you are saying. There are times when we need the embrace of that Higher Power. This song evokes that saving embrace. Safe in the arms of the Love that has no limit.
I have a deep abiding love for this choir and the love, spirit, and comfort I feel when they sing. Metaphorically, my home is over Jordan. and I can’t wait to one day cross over into campground to where I ultimately belong. :)
Glória a Deus, também espero com ansiedade esse grande dia. 👏👏👏
Played at my mom's funeral ❤
Without question, music is the universal language, and for the nearly 175 years since this magnificent choir was founded in August of 1847 it's been wonderfully used to communicate a message of divine love through songs that transcend, the divisions of politics, religion and culture. I'm not a Morman but remain deeply thankful for the ministry of song by their choir.
Прекрасное исполнение!
Торжественно и нежно одновременно!
Спаси Господи! 🙏💖
Amen our home is over Jordan. One day we will all cross this river to be with the Lord, should he tarry. Our Lord is gone to prepare a place for us, so where he is we may be also. John 14: 1-3
God will bless you for me for these songs,,They take me to places. have never been in my mind,,,
I love this song ... I was able to sing with a University choir in 2002. Very beautiful with your voices. this song
I agree with Bob. This sacred music renews our souls. How grateful we are for such glorious harmonies and all the work that goes into preparing such beautiful worship services for the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you! This is one of my favorites.
The most soothing, prayerful performance to calm the soul. Oh my, just took a deep breath of gratitude.
So beautiful. Thank you!
I cannot overstate how much I love listening to this choir and orchestra! Thank you so much for all your hard work! Best wishes from Mississippi and stay safe! Look out for each other in this time of crisis!
it makes me like flying to heaven in deep peace...
I love this choir so much it helps me feel good on bad days. I wish they had a choir like this in England
I share your feelings. You could go and experience a Welsh male choir as that will lift you. But of course this choir is amazing. X
A beautiful piece of music sung by this well known choir cannot in my opinion, be bettered!
How i wish i could join this choir and sing, sing, and sing OMG!
Are you a member of the church?

Tom, Blacks were given the priesthood and allowed to be in any leadership position about 35 years ago. Members at large were very glad to hear the announcement when it came and were eager for the changes. Color doesn't make a difference. We are brothers and sisters.
+Laurie Horrocks AND Blacks were always allowed to join the LDS church
lovely spiritual.
Hermoso
Extraordinario!
lindo
Heavenly
. “ come ye, who are heavy burdened, and so weary be, and ye shall have rest,
for my path is well lit, and my yoke is light “
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me.
💫Jesus Christ son of God.
“ blessed is he who will not be offended in me “
I find it incredible that anybody can take the teachings of the church of LDS even remotely serious, but boy can these people sing. Amazing song and performance!
Another favorite of mine is 'All Creatures of Our God and King'. And that says something, considering I'm an atheist. ;-)
+John Anonymous Have you ever tried praying? Ask him if He's there.

Yes I have, long time ago. But so what? Praying, including the possible warm fuzzy feelings it may give, doesn't mean anything.
Have it your way
You asked, right?
If I may ask, just out of curiosity, what does matter, or mean something, for you? I'm laughing at myself a bit, I sound like a shrink, but I like to understand people.

Like Leontyne Price's version the best.
Love the music and love the singing. Ironic to sing spirituals when they just recently let black people be Mormons and certainly never in a leadership role.
+tom kuwahara Hello Tom, people of colour have been members of the Church of Jesus Christ for a very long time. The Priesthood was given to Blacks in the 1970's. It was welcomed by all in the Church. We are all children of one God and we are all brothers and sisters. To know more on LDS History check out lds.org or mormon.org I wish you well this Easter Season....
