Resourcefulness and Ingenuity
Sometimes life’s most difficult problems can be solved in the most unexpected ways. In fact, even when a situation seems downright hopeless, a little resourcefulness and ingenuity can lead to surprising solutions.
This truth was illustrated in dramatic fashion during the American Revolution, when a fledgling nation struggled to assert its independence against one of the great military powers of the time. What the American soldiers lacked in training and resources they made up for with determined ingenuity.
One great example of that ingenuity took place not far from here, near what is now the campus of the United States Military Academy at West Point. During the Revolutionary War, this bend in the Hudson River became a key point of defense. They knew that if they could defend the river, they could defend themselves. So to prevent British ships from passing, they blocked the waterway with every obstacle they could think of: logs, underwater spikes, and even sunken vessels.
The revolutionaries didn’t have a lot of resources, but it just so happened that only a few miles from West Point was one of the largest iron deposits in the world. They determined to use that iron to make a massive chain and stretch it from bank to bank to make the river impassable. Under the direction of General George Washington, in a manufacturing feat that would be remarkable even by today’s standards, they built a 500-yard chain in six short weeks. Each link in the massive chain was two to three inches thick and two to three feet long. Men worked on seven forges and ten welding fires around the clock to complete the 65-ton chain and place it underwater. The huge chain held and effectively blocked passage on the Hudson River for the rest of the war. Now memorialized here at West Point, this piece of the chain reminds us of the ingenuity and determination of those early patriots.
It is also a reminder that when we have our own personal waterways to defend, when we face our own insurmountable odds, we can find safety and strength in doing our best with what we have, in working with resourcefulness and ingenuity to find solutions to our most difficult problems.

America's Choir on the campus of one of my favorite institutions of higher learning! Thank you! Perhaps sometime in the next few years we can get you over to Oahu to perform your magic on the 7th of December. The 80th anniversary, in less than two and a half years, would be most appropriate, in my opinion! Thank you all for such a wonderful performance!
A beautiful tribute to our nation, and all who worked and fought to preserve our freedoms. We need to fight to save our U.S. Constitution now….may we learn about it, and stand for the right in all things, and all places.

Love AMERICA'S choir!
I bet that was such an experience to be singing the Army’s part is the Armed Forces theme’s and to have those at West Point singing back to you! I bet it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and also unforgettable.
If you have ever watched the movie about this tour, the choir wasn’t told were they were going till they were on their way up to West Point. They had been doing an North-East U.S. tour and it was one location that wasn’t told at the beginning of the tour.

FOURTH OF JULY SPECIAL ( Live at West Point) MUSIC AND THE SPOKEN WORD " Defending Independence"
AMERICA...AMERICA....- LET THE DREAM GOES ON........so the Mormon Tabernacle Choir resonates loud and clear along with other patriotic songs so dear to the heart of every American- in red, white and blue, standing at Trophy Point in the grounds of West Point New York for the Fourth of July Special Concert.
With the Orchestra at Temple Square Strings and the Brass Ensemble of the United States Military Açademy Band at West Point, delivering a flawless symphonic orchestration to accompany the forceful rendition of the well- blended voices of several hundreds of men and women of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, truly captured the spirit of partriotism in every red-blooded American soldier who has served and is still serving his country, such that as the ARMED FORCES MEDLEY is played, he stands in resolute dedication with his hand salute...with every ounce of allegiance to fight for America's Independence and Freedom at all costs!!!
Truly this is an inspiration and encouragement to every West Point cadet in attendance, brave men and women in Gray, ready and strong to stand in the battlefields of war for their country!!!
As THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC is ably performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir; with the soulful chorus of GLORY...GLORY ALLELUIA....and shouts of..."LET US LIVE TO MAKE MEN FREE".....
....let the STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER wave over our beloved country...." FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA"...
Every freedom-loving American fervently prays....
GOD BLESS A- M- E - R- I - C-A ..our home sweet home!!!!

Such an American church, you don’t seem to celebrate any other county!!
Well, it's OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY celebration today. It's the PERFECT day to celebrate AMERICA. Even so, this is the LORD'S true church upon this earth.
Defending Independence. The Spirit of ‘76 emanates here and yes, also, the entire world over and around. This program displays values and traditions important for a world in spiritual and moral warfare. Stretching back across the years to 1776, this blessed nation displayed miraculously a new way for the world to move forward. No longer should mankind be subjected to injustices of monarchy and unrighteous dominion of aristocracy-self serving governments that beat down the people.
Follow the precedence set by America’s Founding Fathers. Cast off the shackles of tyranny that breeds commotion, death, and destruction in all lands and nations across the globe. Make government of the people, by the people, and for the people a standard for all lands and nations. Celebrate freedom and defend independence and fight for fundamental human rights and living in all lands and nations.
That’s what celebrating the Spirit of ‘76 is all about.
Look harder! This choir celebrates good music from all sources, not just those from and about America.
