I've just done 30k miles on mine - mix of commuting through central London, countryside, long distance tours to Europe and track days. Genuinely a fantastic all rounder which can do all of these things really well.

Yes it's fine with me - the Akra probably sounds better but I never felt the need to change the stock. But I'm usually the kind of person who sticks with stock parts anyway due to my lack of skill with anything practical!@@w3dnesd4y57

Hello! Thanks for the video. I tested a 2023 F900R today for about 25-30 miles. The bike I rode had the premium package installed and was fully loaded. I am currently riding a BMW G310R and have just outgrown the bike, and thought this to be the logical next step up in my BMW Motorrad journey. So, for me, coming off a G310R, the F900R did not feel underpowered, even in road mode, which I selected during the test. The power was very fun, predictable, and linear. I had absolute pleasure romping around town going through the gearbox with the quick shifter, especially the auto-blip downshifts that were just so damn satisfying. After riding a G310R for 7,000 miles (my first and only bike) the F900R felt like I was riding Optimus Prime and I felt absolutely awesome on it. So long story short, I fell in love with the F900R, and the demo model that I tested had 19 miles on it before I took my extended test ride. The price was listed at $10,995 usd, and after the homey hookup, price was $10,000 usd. In what universe am I ever going to get a bike with this kind of build quality, that TFT, dynamic esa, quick shifter up and down, adaptive lights, cruise control, heated grips, keyless ride, riding modes, Brembos, navigation prep, adjustable levers, endurance chain .....wow, on and on for $10,000? After taxes, destination, freight, tag, title, and dealership fees, the bike is more like $12,999 out the door for me. The dealership wants my G310R for a trade in, and offered $3,000 trade, which I thought was pretty fair (2020 310R, 7k miles). That leaves me with $9,999, 10 grand out of pocket, and my G310R. I put a $500 deposit down on the bike to hold it, while I ponder my decisions. Good deal? Thanks, have a nice day!

How does maneuverability feel in the city at nearly standstill traffic? What about leaning? thanks :)

    • @TheAsianTang
      @TheAsianTang Před 11 měsíci +3

@@ayrtonxerri1466 I put myself through several miles of standstill traffic and I had absolutely no issues handling the bike. I am 5'9 140lbs, so I'm not a big guy at all. The bike feels confident in corners, and with the pegs being pretty high, there is a ton of clearance to the ground, so leaning the bike is just wonderful.

I bought a 2018 G310R in February. An impulse buy to get me back on 2 wheels after almost 20 years. I rode the G310R 3 times, then started shopping. My 2023 F900R is a leftover from last year. Great price, great financing.
I now have 164 miles in it since Tuesday. Western Massachusetts and Vermont miles. LOVE the feel and handling of the bike. 99HP is plenty for the riding I do. At about 465lbs , it's light and maneuverable. Civilized ride over bumpy roads, FUN in the turns.
Handles fine in the stop-n-go traffic I had to endure on the ride home from the dealership in Connecticut (MAX BMW), and thank you, Kyle!

The Dynamic mode makes such a difference on the throttle and the acceleration and is so different from Road mode, same power but you get so much more of that power at less throttle.

Hello Kate, Recently purchased a dealer ex-demo. It was this motorcycle F900R that lured me away from my SV650, after test riding across other makes. The test ride included stretches of open highway, mountainous curves and corners, country lanes and a small rural village at the turn back point. Giving me a wonderful exposure to different riding environs. The F900R handled all of these things with grace, and was especially inspiring for the mountain curves.
I have ordered a more comfortable seat for longer distances and an extender to the Gear shifter. Plus reviewing whether I will lower the footpegs and/or add mirror extenders. But everything else just chef's kiss.
    Thanks for the review.

It is a zero to sixty 3.2s, so nothing to spit on.
My wife got one standard seat hight but she is 5.8. S21 has been fine for me but she didn't like so it got some metzeler roadtech 01 se. It completely changes it's behavior, for her perfect for going switchbacks in the alps, for me bit too nimble tho. We both just ride it in dynamic pro cos it's better for the wrist... just less work.
It is that good of a bike that I usually trying to convince her that she rides my bike. Sadly she seldomly allows me. She did like 10k on it in our 6 months season. Mpg is awesome even if spiritually ridden.
I put the handguards from the f900xr on it, since that extends our season for like one month, and every day on it is a treat. For me it is the best midweight twin on the market, BMW is 10 years ahead in that compared to the Japanese competition and that 10 years I think one feels.
So long, thank you for showing.
Btw if one travels cruise is really recommended, nice soft luggage available, she went for swmotech blaze pro and tankbag.
Chain maintenance is okay, the optional Regina Gold (m-endurance) I'd recommend, cos I got that on my bike and this one is just easier to maintain.

Kate I completely agree with a couple of the other commenters on how much of a fright it was when that car started to pull out in front of you and in my case also there were one or two other vehicles who I was worried were going to pull out. This is an issue of course common to any motorcyclist and all motorcycling. I am not riding currently but when I did in the past, I always treated those cars waiting to pull into my path as a major threat, and tended to ease off the throttle a bit once I saw them, just dropping my speed somewhat so that I'd have a slower accident or none at all if they really did pull out, and also (per advice I read in the New Zealand Rode Code for Motorcyclists which was "move away from danger") always kept my distance, using the full width of the lane (unless another threat from another direction was present) to keep as far away as possible from those vehicles waiting to enter, without leaving my lane, to buy a lot more time to react / decrease the risk of contact, if they pull out. I also sometimes used to change my line (first shifting my track towards and then away from their position) as I approached them, with the express aim of alerting them to my presence and even giving them a bit of a start. I'd rather they think I'm a bit of a hazard and elevate their heart rate, than not register my presence. I hope you'll take on some extra approaches such as these, or other ideas, to mitigate this risk when approaching the humans who just may not see you, like they are prone not to do, and love to pull out as their amygdala apparently processes riders as "non threatening" even if their eyes see us, and away they go. I think the only other option is to wear high vis, but we don't tend to like to do that (and I'm no different). I really enjoyed your voice, your considered opinion on the bike, and especially your summary towards the end, setting expectations around the dynamics or otherwise of this bike. You're really clear, and unpretentious, and I love that. I also really appreciate that you a woman are doing reviews on bikes, and hope to see many more by you.

Had my F900XR TE for 3 years now and its a great all rounder. Plenty of tech, great grunt, fun when you want to get a push on but comfy for long rides.
Have done plenty of week long tours and never got off it thinking id rather have been on a different bike.
Build quality is great and the TFT (when combined with the BMW app) is amazing.
Only criticism is the standard seat is damn uncomfortable so upgraded to a Wunderlich within a week of getting the bike.
Also looks good with the BMW hard panniers.
Dont know why this bike gets overlooked, maybe doesnt have the cred of equivalent duke etc but it should be on your list.
Have also had a F900R on loan while mine was being serviced and had great fun on that.

I bought mine new last month. I've done 600mls on it now. I came from a Z1000SX. I'm 6' and 15st I'm on the standard ride height and seat and find this bike much more comfortable, it's also much more nimble. The engine is pretty decent, plenty of poke and I haven't been past 6k revs yet. The brakes are superb. I've got the ESA and ride mode and ABS Pro. I honestly think it's a brilliant and possibly under rated bike and looking forward to doing some decent rides on it.

I wanted a sport tourer with emphasis on the sport but not the sport bike kind or the adv kind. With a little wind screen my f900r is comfortable at 80+ mph. I got a top box and a 30l bag that straps to the back seat. I plan on adding crash bars highway pegs and a touring seat for more long haul comfort on the expressway. But overall, it works very well.

    Very good review, Kate.
I just sold my fully specced 2020 F 900 R (18000 kms on the clock) and I would say - you got the essence of the bike. It's not a hooligan bike, but it allows some spirited riding on the twistiest. It's not a scooter, bit it's nearly perfect for the city. It's not a tourer, but it allows for long 2 up rides (me and my wife did two longer trips 2500 and 3500 kilometers and really loved it). It's really versatile, good looking bike.
I've replaced it with a 2023 R1250R, because I loved the boxer engine.
Are you planning to review the R1250R anytime soon? I'd love to hear your opinion on it and the differences to the 900 R.
    Take care!

I have the exact same bike. It’s my first “on road” motorcycle. Put 7400km on it before having to pack it away for winter here in Canada. I don’t have much to compare it to having only ridden dirt bikes previously. It’s more than enough than I’ll ever need. I bought it for the tech and colour. The weight didn’t bother me. People complain about the seat or they can’t wheelie with it. I find the seat comfortable and I use a dirt bike if I want to wheelie and stay off the roads. The modes are noticeable when changed and the dynamic ESA is worth the extra money in my opinion

I’ve got the XR and I love it. I’ve just ridden 4,500 miles to the edge of Europe and back and it’s been brilliant. It’s easy to ride with the low down torque for when you’re feeling lazy but will happily play when you’re in the mood. There are more exciting bikes but I doubt there are many that are more satisfying.

Thanks for your review Kate. I've owned a 2017 Streety 765 for about a year. I loved her a lot. Even was in the alps with her. And yeah ... weight, seating position, sound, gearbox and clutch were better on her. Also, you have to get used to the quick shifter on the BMW. But I love the low down torque and the low down rumble sound on the F 900 R. The engine is absolutely smooth in low revs for a 2 zylinder engine in that class in comparison to others. It's less sporty on high revs but more usable on country roads. The (non electronic) suspension is really good. The cruise control is the best in market in my opinion (from 2nd gear and 30 km/h). The BMW is weigh better in consumption. You don't need any navigation system no more using the connected app and on display navigation. And as far as of my experience, the BMW feels more sturdy to me after > 20.000 km somehow. Just my two cents on this. And no, I'm not payed by BMW.

Great review, I have an XR TE 2022 and your comments and review are spot on for this and the previous review of the same bike. Did a 4 hr round trip yesterday on mixed roads and motorway and everything you have said is spot in. The 820mm is too high for me as last BMW was factory adjusted at 790 mm . Reluctant too get low seat as standard is quite hard and would like comfort seat for long trips. This would be even higher so caught between two extremes.
Have only 1500miles on the clock due to getting septicaemia last winter and being out of the ball game for 6 months so low mileage. Only issue is an intermittent fault on the cruise control and this will be fixed at next service.
You touched on this in the review regarding some options not being able to be retrofitted but one item I would like to have is Dynamic ESA retrofitted but my local dealer says not possible ? is this true ????

19:54 just got to this ask. I own one and it’s AMAZING. I also reviewed this bike on a video on my channel for anybody interested. BMW are currently struggling for parts to make the SE version / Dynamic riding options so if you can get your hands on a 2nd hand one would Highly recommend aiming for an SE as they are £10k new but spec’ed with the current £12k options. The connectivity with your phone is excellent with the BMW app, if you have a helmet intercom can hook that to the bike and your phone and control Sat Nav and Phone from the dash, quick shifter and blipper are great, power delivery can be slow and smooth or brutal depending how hard you twist the wrist, brakes are amazing. 140 miles is normal tank range. The power supply (with after market adapter) is fantastic for charging your phone whilst riding. Only negative wind protection is terrible totally battered above 69mph.

Great review Kate! I have a factory lowered 2021 F900R with most of the specs you mentioned and i think you captured the essence of the bike. Extremely comfortable, very capable, predictable ( & crisp) handling and refined character. Excellent fuel efficiency. However if someone is prone to hooligan style riding, then this is definitely not the bike for them as they may feel it underpowered. I also think this bike has an undeserved bad rap from the traditional flat twin BMW fans and the sale/resale market is reflects that here in the states. However for the price i think they are very well made and sophisticated even though the engine is produced overseas.

My daily commutes are 75-120 km typically. Out of that - about 80% is highway. In these conditions, depending on how easy I'm on the throttle, I'm seeing 280-330 km from full to empty. I find this to be incredibly good (after my last two bikes which were both 1250). Thus, since fuel tank is 13L, it's easy math how economic it is.

On paper the F900XR ticks many boxes in terms of (most of) my road riding requirements.
If buying any bike brand new I might want my emotions stirred somewhat... I totally sense what you say re predictablity & riding style though.

I think the BMW F900R is a beautiful bike to look at, but the test drive came across as rather ordinary. The test ride on the YAMAHA XSR900 was much more spectacular. With that motorcycle you visibly had a lot more fun and that's what it's all about.

    • @applecorp
      @applecorp Před 11 měsíci +1

You're comparing a triple to a twin (and also the Yamaha has 12 more horse power), there will be a huge difference in how they sound and feel. I have an F900 XR and I can see why you might think it is "ordinary" but it really isn't, the power is there. I've owned a Street Triple, Tiger 800 and a Tracer 900 and they do 'feel' more lively because they are triples but again that is just down to the engine configuration, it's an illusion that they are more lively based on the sound they make. I now prefer the more relaxed feel of a twin.

Once it's out the factory, seat height can only be altered by physical seats. It can't be changed in terms of chassis. Yeah, it's a good upgrade. It's extremely easy and forgiving to ride. And while the jump in power from the G310R is quite significant, it delivers it in an easily predictable manner.
The R1250R is a lot heavier. Not a problem when riding, because of the low center of gravity, but you feel it when moving it around. It's still not hard to ride, but it got endless amounts of torque and is overall a lot faster than the 900.
