Healthcare in Canada vs Paraguay- my personal experience seeking help in 2 countries for 1 concern

In this video, I talk about my experience with both, Canadian universal healthcare and Paraguayan private healthcare. I could go on and on about stories of what people have experienced in the Canadian universal healthcare system. But in this video, I talk about my experience only.
I got symptoms of a potential health concern that needed to be addressed ASAP if it was anything. Just getting it checked and an ultrasound done took about 2 months! That's a lot of time wasted if there were to be anything wrong.
Just over a year later, we moved to Paraguay and knew I would be seeing a doctor for a second opinion. The healthcare I got in Canada in 2-3 months, only took a week to get in Paraguay.
    Thanks for watching.

To clarify, we did not have medical insurance at the time of my appointments in Paraguay so these numbers I shared for medical expenses are full price.

Thanks for the vid and info. Agreed Canada's health care is not perfect and in need of an over haul asap. You could die waiting.

fascinating insight, because it is so rare for someone to experience 2 different healthcare systems in 2 different countries for the same condition.
Health care in Canada has to be rationed (it's not possible to cover the entire population AND have the prompt service of a private system), as you found out. But for Westerners, the low costs and services provided in Paraguay would seem to be excellent. Great info, thanks.

The worst part is, their problem would be easy to fix. All it would take is for them to allow a private care system to exist in concert of the public system. But they're too woke to consider this solution. Thanks for watching.

The average monthly salary in Paraguay is 500, so having spent 100 in a month is 20% of monthly income. With that poverty that’s $100 most people don’t have. The private doctors can see you quickly as they have much less demand than in Canada as most of the population there can’t afford to see them. Public in doctors in developing countries are super busy, and don’t get same good outcomes due to lack of resources. In Paraguay you’re 20x more likely to die giving birth, 8 times more likely for child to die around birth, 5 times more likely to die as a child compared to Canada, all better measures for comparing health systems. Ultimately, you didn’t have surgery in Canada since it wasn’t needed. But how would you have fared had you had Cancer? If you had to pay out of pocket hospital, surgeons, oncologists, anesthesists, chemotherapy, PET scans, MRIs, CT not just one time, but ongoing. No insurance would cover you for pre-existing illness. Medical tourists must also be careful as there are facilities that will do whatever procedure you ask if you pay. But if things go wrong they expect you to go back home and have consequences dealt there. Good luck getting refund much less compensation. N

First off, when it comes to the average Paraguayan’s income, there are so many that work without ever having a RUC (like a social security number under which they work) therefore don’t report their income at all. With that said though, yes there are plenty of people who make less than what is needed to live a comfortable life by our standards. I’m not reporting this as ‘it’s so cheap everyone can afford it here’. There are some who can’t making me so glad there are programs that help those who can’t afford to pay their medical bills. But this is from the outsiders perspective saying it’s affordable compared to living in Canada, paying high taxes and still being told to go home nothing is wrong or living in the US and piling up medical bills. For the mortality rate of laboring mothers or newborns, your numbers aren’t matching to what I’m finding online. The only one you are close to is infant death rate but still higher than what I’m finding.
I personally know several people who were told, in Canada, there was nothing to be done about their broken wrist/chest bone damage, came here and have received extensive operations. Both cases the doctors operated without hesitation and turned out very well. Are you making the assumption that, just because this is a 3rd world country hospitals must be so unsanitary and doctors so untrained and uneducated? Have you ever been to Paraguay or one of its hospitals?

@@Frieda_Wiebe Agree. The inflation rate in Argentina is close to 100%. In Paraguay it barely reaches 4%. The poverty rate fluctuates between 17-22%. Paraguay has had good economic growth over the last decade. There is crime like anywhere else but mostly burglaries, pickpockets, etc. If you use common sense and watch your surroundings, you will be just fine. The night life in Asuncion and other major cities is very active,
