Its funny how WH got so popular considering the ARG it was supposed to be is pretty much in hiatus and it barely developed at all. Its the same thing that happened with TADC. All it had was one pilot and suddenly it became a massive craze. Its kinda interesting how that works.
When WH blew up, the project was still in its introductory phase with only 5% story expressed at the time. It's been updated multiple times since the fandom explosion, and thanks to this massive amount of attention and love, Clown has been able to do amazing things with his creations.
same with hazbin hotel, the pilot blew up and the fandom had rapid aus (opposite alastor au) and headcanons plus ships....even though some of the characters never interacted or barely knew one another

People starting to hate it because either its popularity or because of some of the fandom being cringe. People being bullied or harassed. (Remember the sans au drama "how dare you draw fan art of my sans au!!!!!!" THE AUS OMG THE AUS. It seems the Internet especially the younger side of it loves to do this, i mean a lot of people who enjoy welcome home are the same age as those who liked undertale in the beginning.
Yeah, and before undertale it was homestuck, ultimately it's a harmless thing(though in bigger and younger fandoms toxicity tends to have an easier time brooding, but that's mostly due to larger sample size/inexperience) my point is, it's a normal thing, and it'll die down eventually, and the people who decide to attack the people in the fandom need to just shut up, and leave it be

At 12:47, there are snippets of episodes/bonus merch content that showcase how the cast interact with each other! Wally has a very monotone voice and is almost out of place compared to the other members, this may be due to the “autism coding” as confirmed by Clown themselves 🎉
Been following Clown around 2021 when they were creating this passion project. It was awesome seeing Clown/Party coffin create this colorful interesting horror arg and glad they got the support to continue on it too! ❤ I'll be honest, Welcome Home was pretty fun and scary to see it grow so fast as a fandom. So many artists, fans, cosplayers were interacting, it was a fun ride. I'll admit I did simp for Wally and find him as a comfort character. (Might as well call myself out.) The AUs can be so creative, my favorites would have to be Reboot and Mob. Even though the AUs were giving me flashbacks to the sans aus from undertale, it was still fun. I'll say it inspired so much creativity with the fandom's community. It even got me through a tough time and rekindled my relationship with art. Despite all of the bad apples and controversies found along the way I just chose to beware of those interactions. I guess I had a good experience with it.❤ Also your Wally caught me off guard while watching so it was pretty funny lol.
My personal theory for Welcome Home is that Wally is being possessed by home and home is controlling him to either kill the neighbors or slowly make them leave and Wally realizes that home is doing this and home finds out Wally knows and he is trying to execute Wally which is why Wally is trying to get our attention because we are the only one we can help But that’s just a theory A GAME THEORY

I mean, people STILL, to this day, make aus that mainly involved Sans in the spotlight, so I don't see the problem with people using Wally the same way for their own creations. As much as SOME aus are questionable and some fans are EVEN MORE QUESTIONABLE..😰 The Fandom has seemed to be in a more peaceful and calm state as in now. I DEFINITELY AGREE! 👍 As a person who’s still in the welcome home fandom, I really enjoy the AUs! It’s pretty cool just to imagine all the characters or settings in different scenarios. And I find people not liking them absolutely valid, we all have different opinions or tastes. Yes people may find it weird to find AUs created in the fandom, but for me personally, it’s the internet, of course there’s going to be AUs for a specific series when it gets popular, because they believe it would be fun or interesting! ( However I hate it when people make very AUs that break the original creator’s boundaries )
I think Clown actually acknowledged the AUs, saying that if they actually did happen, it would just be Wally playing dress up. I’m not sure if Clown still feels this way but I thought it was heartwarming that he embraced the existence of WH AUs
I absolutely agree! Also, people compare with Undertale like it's a bad thing, but Undertale is actually freaking amazing. The aus also build amazing artist within it in the process. People talk about those au's likes it's the problem of our generation but actually is something that exist for so long and actually makes artists think creative. It's just people that like certain characters and want to have a story or a context to interact with them. It's nothing to think too much about it. I honestly think that the "cringe culture" is killing creativity.
Also quick comment, but while the other AUs were fun, I actually didn't like how people often did what I call "The Wattpadification of Wally Darling", where they made Wally into a Tall, sexy, buff and grumpy guy and took away EVERY. SINGLE. DEFINING. TRAIT. about the Original Wally in an effort to make him more "attractive". Like girllll I'm sorry but if you needed to take away his silliness and love for apples and painting *just* to be attracted to this character, God bless you.
I agree honestly. You’re free to point and laugh at me, but the reason why I fell in love with Wally in the first place was because of how he is/was. In my AU’s I at least try to keep as close to the OG as I can while not making a carbon copy
Loving the videos lately! For me I kinda see what Matpat is thinking with the whole cult and worshipping thing going on with Welcome Home, there’s SO MUCH that really points to that aspect. But what I find the most interesting is the neighbors themselves, I always thought how strange it is with how this “neighborly group” isn’t actually all that kind to each other. Often times they bicker and argue in a way that really doesn’t feel like they’re close friends. They also throw a lot of shade to other neighbors as well, to the point it feels real gossipy and negative, the VAs for them really nail it with the voices too! There’s a ton of hidden clips too where I interpret them as Wally severally dissociating, and the ONLY character that showed any genuine care and concern for his wellbeing was his friend Barnabe. From what I’m getting is that yes, there could be some supernatural force at play, but now not only is it affecting Wally, an outsider to the rest of the group because of his natural behavior, but the mail man Eddie as well. Who in some ways, is also an outsider of sorts, and is also the only character who “technically” had any connection to the outside world, or I.e outside the neighborhood. It feels like there’s some entity, or maybe even a “cult” that’s dragging the neighborhood into whatever thing they messing with. Because as much as it feels like there’s something else present, like you said, only Wally was originally aware of it. And he’s trying to reach out as both a cry for help, while being manipulated. There’s also the hidden website link that takes you to a letter, I strongly believe that’s Wally writing to both himself, and whoever’s viewing the site. Only to then also have a recording of him sounding like “he’s not there” anymore, at least until the end when he seems to kinda snap out of it at the mention of Barnabe. But that’s my own interpretation and theory on it. A gay-

I’m definitely in the right side of this fandom because I barely saw any of this AU junk and strange fan creations. All I see is adults making theories and covering the new discoveries whenever there is updates.
As someone who came late to the fandom, i've quite loved my stay in the in the community as i feel like i see a lot of love between artists alike and the strong bounds of people connecting over aus and lore is heartwarming. Of course with any fandom there will always be bad apples but i must say, the tag that Clown issued for people to use has been used well as i have never stumbled upon anything nsfw outside of that tag. It's pretty perfect in a sense since the fandom is often compared to undertale which had no real filters compared to this one, i could find some questionable art on pintrest where there was proshipping and xncest as well just out in the open. However in the welcome home community i find myself surrounded by kind and sweet people who has their fav characters and make their own characters to be "You" in the neightbourhood, or to be seen as their own thing too.

I’ve been waiting for someone to talk about the AUs XD I got to watch the fan base grow and now die down and it’s been the coolest thing, definitely the most interesting fandom I’ve been apart of
I joined to the fandom when it hit popularity on tiktok (like many), but as many others, just focused on Wally (even though my favorite is Sally lmao).
I definitely love this fandom since it was what got me back into them, although I stopped being in it due to the fact the new website is more for pc/computers.
From my experiences of how this welcome home fandom came to be was amazing especially the mysterious because I loved of how you havw to find some sercert words and things to click to learn as it goes and people making theroies. Yet I find it sad of how there will be some bad apples espically when there's people who tried to make merch of this when the creator didn't want them to. You can literally check their rules in tumbler. They even tried to make it safe for people yet there's MINORS to look up the tag that there's aren't supposed to look at just to say terrible things to people for making gross which again they shouldn't be there in the first place!! But from the looks of it it seemed to be improve as it goes but i still love welcome home even the aus people are so creative! I'm really glad you're enjoying it too it isn't everyday to see something so different to do with puppets yet to make it chilling :) its great
I got into Welcome home about a month before it got big, when there were almost no youtube videos talking about it and only a very small following. I really loved it, and thought it was so well executed and creative. I really latched onto the characters and would read through all of Clown's one off posts about the characters' hobbies and dynamics. But when the fandom got big, things got so bad. I would see Clown's posts about the stress of how big it became and they very few, very understandable boundaries they placed being completely ignored out of spite. Seeing this really soured the entire expirience for me and i just had to stop interacting. Im only now starting to feel ok to join back in with the new update, because welcome home really is such a wonderful and lovingly made project, I hope things will mellow out from now on
12:23 The_MacabreMan. Thank you for addressing the Smeet drama. The whole thing was a smear campaign by Smeet's ex Discord Mods. The Mods were harassing people in Smeet's server, being extremely racist and crude, abusing their powers and mocking Smeet behind his back. Smeet asked them to stop and they refused so finally they were banned and booted. They then formed the Callout Doc on Smeet trying to get them canceled and sadly it worked because a lot of folks fail to even try and research or think critically when faced with Callout Docs. They're afraid of being on the "wrong side" and shunned so many folks jumped straight into hating Smeet. After successfully getting Smeet canceled those same Mods tried to get other popular WH AU artists canceled with falsified call outs. The truth was eventually revealed though so that's good. Smeet has their own doc with their evidence on their Twt. The fandoms reaction to the Smeet drama was embarrassing and infuriating to watch. It's what drove me out of the fandom entirely and made me stop interacting with fandom content and cancel all my own AU and fandom projects. Especially people "adopting" Smeet's AUs and Smeet being removed as creator of their own AU in AU compilation lists. It just did not sit right with me. It's really sad seeing how AUs were treated in WH fandom though. The ideas started out in good fun as a way for fans to be silly and create more content but then people took it to the extreme. As many AUs got popular and the other big AU creators drew AU fanart and interactions.. it drew out the clout chasers. Suddenly everyone needed an AU (or 10) and hoped they'd get popular and become friends with the other popular AUs. 😅 On the topic of Clown taking a break it wasn't due to boundary breaking.. Clown was overwhelmed by the MASSIVE INCREASE in eyes on them as a person. Millions of people suddenly on your doorstep wanting to know everything about your story and ocs? Very intense. 🫣 I love your "card" art! It's so cute and pun-y and I love puns. 😂 Sorry this comment is so long... I'm very talkative about WH.😂
I enjoyed the AUs the creators came up with when I was in the fandom. I made many discord bots to roleplay as them and whatnot, but I soon grew distant from the WH fandom because of life. I'm happy Clown and his team are still working on the project! I'm slowly getting back into it! The simps don't really scare me all that much because if people can simp for a skeleton then a puppet was nothing. If you ever feel afraid of the people simping too much, I don't blame you. It's your choice to leave or stay, but I advise you to focus on the positives of what this fandom brings! ❤

so back in april of 2023, i had made some art for welcome home since I had gotten into it. On my tiktok, I posted the very first welcome home angst video created. Yep. First angst fan content ever made for the fandom. It blew up and over the course of a day I went from a mere 20 some followers to over 10k. People are still following me to this day, finding my now discontinued 5 part series on tiktok. My most popular video almost reached 600k views even! The series is called I'm not crazy, and the premise of it was Wally going delusional. The story was going to be him talking to the viewer, and being manipulated not only by the viewer but also by Home to do things he wouldn't normally do. And due to the more morbid curiosity the more than likely young viewer had, he would begin to do more and more unsavory and violent things whilst going insane. However I got burnt out after the 5th episode, and fell out of the fandom slightly. I still had a fairly popular welcome home roleplay and hangout server on my discord. People still join it to this day, but it's been dead since last May. I made a few ocs who went unnoticed generally, made some friends, lost some friends, that one girl who was exposed for grooming kids in the welcome home fandom, I think her name was Emma? Something like that-- she joined my server at some point. After everyone had heard of what she was doing, she was banned on the spot lol. My tiktok still stands at almost 13k followers, I've been slowly gaining my following back because I've been making hazbin hotel content. Its good to hear about Welcome Home casually again, it's nostalgic in a sense. Back to when I lived in a different place at the ripe age of 15, finding the fandom filled me with enough energy to actually wanna get out of bed early and go to school on time every day for a while! Good times. Until I fell out of the fandom and just went back to my main fandom, Madness Combat. Ah well!

Joining the fandom in late march of last year, it felt really welcoming before the craziness of the AUs started. I remember that clown said during those times (before announcing the specific tag for those types of works on twitter a while ago) that they were uncomfortable with people making nsfw related things with the characters which I really respected and seeing people respected their statement too when welcome home was trending alot here and there. But then again the bad apples will try and slip through the cracks (for example those Wally darling "18+" audios here on CZcams 😭)

As a person who’s still in the welcome home fandom, I really enjoy the AUs! It’s pretty cool just to imagine all the characters or settings in different scenarios. And I find people not liking them absolutely valid, we all have different opinions or tastes.
Yes people may find it weird to find AUs created in the fandom, but for me personally, it’s the internet, of course there’s going to be AUs for a specific series when it gets popular, because they believe it would be fun or interesting!
( However I hate it when people make very AUs that break the original creator’s boundaries )
I think Clown actually acknowledged the AUs, saying that if they actually did happen, it would just be Wally playing dress up. I’m not sure if Clown still feels this way but I thought it was heartwarming that he embraced the existence of WH AUs

Also, people compare with Undertale like it's a bad thing, but Undertale is actually freaking amazing. The aus also build amazing artist within it in the process.
People talk about those au's likes it's the problem of our generation but actually is something that exist for so long and actually makes artists think creative. It's just people that like certain characters and want to have a story or a context to interact with them. It's nothing to think too much about it. I honestly think that the "cringe culture" is killing creativity.
Also quick comment, but while the other AUs were fun, I actually didn't like how people often did what I call "The Wattpadification of Wally Darling", where they made Wally into a Tall, sexy, buff and grumpy guy and took away EVERY. SINGLE. DEFINING. TRAIT. about the Original Wally in an effort to make him more "attractive".
Like girllll I'm sorry but if you needed to take away his silliness and love for apples and painting *just* to be attracted to this character, God bless you.
I agree honestly. You’re free to point and laugh at me, but the reason why I fell in love with Wally in the first place was because of how he is/was. In my AU’s I at least try to keep as close to the OG as I can while not making a carbon copy

Loving the videos lately! For me I kinda see what Matpat is thinking with the whole cult and worshipping thing going on with Welcome Home, there’s SO MUCH that really points to that aspect. But what I find the most interesting is the neighbors themselves, I always thought how strange it is with how this “neighborly group” isn’t actually all that kind to each other. Often times they bicker and argue in a way that really doesn’t feel like they’re close friends.
They also throw a lot of shade to other neighbors as well, to the point it feels real gossipy and negative, the VAs for them really nail it with the voices too!
There’s a ton of hidden clips too where I interpret them as Wally severally dissociating, and the ONLY character that showed any genuine care and concern for his wellbeing was his friend Barnabe.
From what I’m getting is that yes, there could be some supernatural force at play, but now not only is it affecting Wally, an outsider to the rest of the group because of his natural behavior, but the mail man Eddie as well. Who in some ways, is also an outsider of sorts, and is also the only character who “technically” had any connection to the outside world, or I.e outside the neighborhood.
It feels like there’s some entity, or maybe even a “cult” that’s dragging the neighborhood into whatever thing they messing with. Because as much as it feels like there’s something else present, like you said, only Wally was originally aware of it. And he’s trying to reach out as both a cry for help, while being manipulated. There’s also the hidden website link that takes you to a letter, I strongly believe that’s Wally writing to both himself, and whoever’s viewing the site. Only to then also have a recording of him sounding like “he’s not there” anymore, at least until the end when he seems to kinda snap out of it at the mention of Barnabe.
But that’s my own interpretation and theory on it. A gay-

As someone who came late to the fandom, i've quite loved my stay in the in the community as i feel like i see a lot of love between artists alike and the strong bounds of people connecting over aus and lore is heartwarming. Of course with any fandom there will always be bad apples but i must say, the tag that Clown issued for people to use has been used well as i have never stumbled upon anything nsfw outside of that tag. It's pretty perfect in a sense since the fandom is often compared to undertale which had no real filters compared to this one, i could find some questionable art on pintrest where there was proshipping and xncest as well just out in the open. However in the welcome home community i find myself surrounded by kind and sweet people who has their fav characters and make their own characters to be "You" in the neightbourhood, or to be seen as their own thing too.

From my experiences of how this welcome home fandom came to be was amazing especially the mysterious because I loved of how you havw to find some sercert words and things to click to learn as it goes and people making theroies.
Yet I find it sad of how there will be some bad apples espically when there's people who tried to make merch of this when the creator didn't want them to. You can literally check their rules in tumbler. They even tried to make it safe for people yet there's MINORS to look up the tag that there's aren't supposed to look at just to say terrible things to people for making gross which again they shouldn't be there in the first place!! But from the looks of it it seemed to be improve as it goes but i still love welcome home even the aus people are so creative! I'm really glad you're enjoying it too it isn't everyday to see something so different to do with puppets yet to make it chilling :) its great

I got into Welcome home about a month before it got big, when there were almost no youtube videos talking about it and only a very small following. I really loved it, and thought it was so well executed and creative. I really latched onto the characters and would read through all of Clown's one off posts about the characters' hobbies and dynamics. But when the fandom got big, things got so bad. I would see Clown's posts about the stress of how big it became and they very few, very understandable boundaries they placed being completely ignored out of spite. Seeing this really soured the entire expirience for me and i just had to stop interacting. Im only now starting to feel ok to join back in with the new update, because welcome home really is such a wonderful and lovingly made project, I hope things will mellow out from now on

Thank you for addressing the Smeet drama. The whole thing was a smear campaign by Smeet's ex Discord Mods. The Mods were harassing people in Smeet's server, being extremely racist and crude, abusing their powers and mocking Smeet behind his back. Smeet asked them to stop and they refused so finally they were banned and booted. They then formed the Callout Doc on Smeet trying to get them canceled and sadly it worked because a lot of folks fail to even try and research or think critically when faced with Callout Docs. They're afraid of being on the "wrong side" and shunned so many folks jumped straight into hating Smeet.
After successfully getting Smeet canceled those same Mods tried to get other popular WH AU artists canceled with falsified call outs. The truth was eventually revealed though so that's good. Smeet has their own doc with their evidence on their Twt.
The fandoms reaction to the Smeet drama was embarrassing and infuriating to watch. It's what drove me out of the fandom entirely and made me stop interacting with fandom content and cancel all my own AU and fandom projects. Especially people "adopting" Smeet's AUs and Smeet being removed as creator of their own AU in AU compilation lists. It just did not sit right with me.
It's really sad seeing how AUs were treated in WH fandom though. The ideas started out in good fun as a way for fans to be silly and create more content but then people took it to the extreme. As many AUs got popular and the other big AU creators drew AU fanart and interactions.. it drew out the clout chasers. Suddenly everyone needed an AU (or 10) and hoped they'd get popular and become friends with the other popular AUs. 😅
On the topic of Clown taking a break it wasn't due to boundary breaking.. Clown was overwhelmed by the MASSIVE INCREASE in eyes on them as a person. Millions of people suddenly on your doorstep wanting to know everything about your story and ocs? Very intense. 🫣

I enjoyed the AUs the creators came up with when I was in the fandom. I made many discord bots to roleplay as them and whatnot, but I soon grew distant from the WH fandom because of life. I'm happy Clown and his team are still working on the project! I'm slowly getting back into it! The simps don't really scare me all that much because if people can simp for a skeleton then a puppet was nothing. If you ever feel afraid of the people simping too much, I don't blame you. It's your choice to leave or stay, but I advise you to focus on the positives of what this fandom brings! ❤

My friends introduced me to it about a year ago and now I'm invested after a year lmao
so back in april of 2023, i had made some art for welcome home since I had gotten into it. On my tiktok, I posted the very first welcome home angst video created. Yep. First angst fan content ever made for the fandom. It blew up and over the course of a day I went from a mere 20 some followers to over 10k. People are still following me to this day, finding my now discontinued 5 part series on tiktok. My most popular video almost reached 600k views even!
The series is called I'm not crazy, and the premise of it was Wally going delusional. The story was going to be him talking to the viewer, and being manipulated not only by the viewer but also by Home to do things he wouldn't normally do. And due to the more morbid curiosity the more than likely young viewer had, he would begin to do more and more unsavory and violent things whilst going insane. However I got burnt out after the 5th episode, and fell out of the fandom slightly.
I still had a fairly popular welcome home roleplay and hangout server on my discord. People still join it to this day, but it's been dead since last May. I made a few ocs who went unnoticed generally, made some friends, lost some friends, that one girl who was exposed for grooming kids in the welcome home fandom, I think her name was Emma? Something like that-- she joined my server at some point. After everyone had heard of what she was doing, she was banned on the spot lol.
My tiktok still stands at almost 13k followers, I've been slowly gaining my following back because I've been making hazbin hotel content. Its good to hear about Welcome Home casually again, it's nostalgic in a sense. Back to when I lived in a different place at the ripe age of 15, finding the fandom filled me with enough energy to actually wanna get out of bed early and go to school on time every day for a while! Good times. Until I fell out of the fandom and just went back to my main fandom, Madness Combat. Ah well!

Joining the fandom in late march of last year, it felt really welcoming before the craziness of the AUs started. I remember that clown said during those times (before announcing the specific tag for those types of works on twitter a while ago) that they were uncomfortable with people making nsfw related things with the characters which I really respected and seeing people respected their statement too when welcome home was trending alot here and there. But then again the bad apples will try and slip through the cracks (for example those Wally darling "18+" audios here on CZcams 😭)
