I say for the most part all his theories are incredibly good at trying to make sense of the stupid lore, with only a few theories that are kinda bad. sometimes the theory it'self doesn't bother me, sometimes it's the evidence that doesn't make sense when I would normally be fine with the theory it'self

I am a big Game Theory/GT Live fan and one thing I never understood was why Matpat got all the hate for his theories because most of the time... they're correct.
For example, I saw a ton of hate on one part of his 'final timeline 4 part-er' theory he put out about the Mediocre Melodies being ripoffs. And people were angry about this for some reason. But it's true! It was confirmed very shortly after. So I while I understand feeling frustrated about some theories (Gregory being a robot) it's not fair to hate on Matpat. In my humble opinion, anyways.

I really don't think most of his theories are as factual as you think.
To me the main issue is how confident Matpat was all the time. I mean he literally called his most recent timeline "the ultimate timeline" and yet a lot of it, particularly the start and end, is just complete fan-fiction. There's never any mention of the great depression or dancing bear carnivals or Mrs. Afton being the CEO anywhere in any of the games, yet he added these details anyway to try to make a proper story arc out of a series that never has been and never will be meant to have one.
It doesn't matter how many times he says "it's just a theory", most people are going to spread it like fact regardless because of how much he tried to convince his audience of these things, when in reality it's just an idea of what COULD be true. Many viewers, FNaF fan and newcomer alike, are going to see these videos and assume that everything in them is correct, because why wouldn't they be?
He doesn't theorize about the possibilities of FNaF's story, he tries to SOLVE it, even though that's just not possible. This is a problem that almost every single theorist in the FNaF community has, Matpat just got the most criticism for it since he's the one most people are gonna see.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator really wasn't the perfect final game that everyone thinks it is. For an ending that's meant to tie up loose ends and put all the characters to rest, it sure leaves out some pretty damn important ones. The original five missing kids aren't even there officially, and no, MoltenMCI doesn't count since it's a fan theory and therefore not confirmed canon. Neither is the crying child / bite victim, he isn't referenced at all. The DCI from FNaF 2 is also never brought up ever again. I also think the overall game just doesn't make a ton of sense. Like why is Henry only doing something about the situation now? Why is he risking the life of another person and tricking them into running a fake business instead of doing the work himself? Why does he need to build a machine specifically to capture the animatronic body of his own daughter? Also Midnight Motorist was a mess that nobody asked for and completely contradicts the already flimsy sense of finality that this game was supposed to have.

Im a big fan of security breach, always have been! I think it’s awesome, flaws and all! But I am SO in love with your pitch for a rewrite. A “big” mall with animatronics with the same functionality of a furby of all things?? Beautiful. Absolutely genius. I mean it! This is what security breach SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Imagine if your dear father-figure-friend-Freddy could on communicate through broken cut-up sentences directed by a friendly lost soul who wants no more than to make sure another child like them isn’t taken from this world, robbed of a future. Literally genius. Actual perfection. Imagine if the animatronics who hunted you were actually scary! Imagine if they were covered in matted fur, leathery scales and clearly fake feathers. All while the security guard you thought was trying to help you hunts you from the dusty rabbit suit they hide in, blocking off exits and making you hide from the cameras view… god this idea is EVERYTHING to me. I’d love to see this idea delved into more!id love to do my own take on it as well, with your permission, of course? If not, that’s totally ok! I get it!

No, people aren't exaggerating the chaotic nature of the story and lore of FNaF at all most of the major problems with FNaF's overall story and lore primarily stems from Five Nights at Freddy's 4 where Scott really turned up the cryptic angle of the series unnecessarily and most theorists use the SIlver Eyes and the novellas in their theory-crafting so I would say its an understatement that they are overlooked because they aren't at all since they are often used by the FNaF community.

While I am a huge FNAF fan, I do have to admit the lore in the later games is a bit to convoluted and not realistic. I kinda wish FNAF stayed true to it’s darker roots over time. It went mostly Sci-Fi later on. Later games like SL and security breach are not bad aesthetically, and are cool concepts, but the story and gameplay of both are just not that interesting to me. Feel like it was mostly the execution of it all and how suddenly it was introduced.
I agree with a lot of things said in this video. I hope the FNAF movie will return the franchises older elements that made me find it interesting.
Also I gotta say, I love those FNAF 2 designs! Perfect blend between the uncanny, and endearing. Rubber masks remind me of Showbiz animatronics and I personally like that style a lot better then the hard plastic look of the original toys. I’ve never really seen too many redesigns that go for this approach besides Battington and a few others. It’s hardly seen in any fan games though.
Out of all of them I’d have to say the puppet is my fav. Love how you added the clown/jester like appearance to make a more interesting looking design.
    (And yes, do that re-design!)

U HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD especiually with the security breach and sister location takes. the truely creepy parts of fnaf are when things happen that shouldnt. family friendly animatronics look unsettling and hurt or kill people for unpredictable reasons. dodgy companies taking shortcuts with their equipment and producing faulty and dangeroud machinery makes it all feel so much more possible and that is the part of the franchise that sticks with me as time goes on. i desperately hope that the movie captures that side of it ;w; and i totally agree that the sci-fi stuff,,, like it can be good if done well but paranormal stuff, like ghosts, is scarier when you dont understand it!! thats why its scary!! the unknown factors are what make you feel so unsafe, which goes hand in hand with the aforementioned sketchy, unmaintained suits/animatronics etc. amazing video, i LOVE the art too it really captures the vibe of,, 'these characters or this envirment is meant to be fun and appealing,,, but something is wrong"

A common misconception, Scott has gone out of his way to state that he is not canon. It's obvious that the indie dev is a stand in, but he's not just Scott. In fact, the life of this indie developer and how they came to develop the in universe games is shown in one of the many stories of Tales from the Pizzaplex. People debate the books' canonicity constantly, but this is one of those stories that explains/shows something that has no equivalent elsewhere nor contradictions due to similar events from the games.
Another point is that Help Wanted does not make everything before it vaguely capable of any and all retconning. Everything from the games before Help Wanted are still as canon as they were before. One of the hidden tapes in HW even state this exact thing, Fazbear Entertainment is trying to cover up the past as exaggerations or false events through the indie dev and VR title, and that all of these stories and rumors are in fact true. Scott also addressed in the same post about him being canon or not that the reason the games now exist in universe was to explain how all of these characters and events, even established non canon material such as FNaF4's Halloween Edition were able to come together in one singular in universe experience.
It's meant to be confusing with the eventual reveal through the tapes that it's another one of FE's attempts to muddy the past, but most people seem to have either forgotten that tape or simply aren't familiar with it's intention of revealing the canon as still fully intact. I feel it would've been better to not cause such confusion in the first place, but I also haven't ever been in a position to make a mini game collection of various different unconnected events part of a series' canon.

  • @GamerGuy-nd4ix
    @GamerGuy-nd4ix Před 7 měsíci +46

Yeah a lot of what made the franchise popular in the first place is completely gone now. The concept of possessed animatronics is ridiculous, but Scott was able to make the idea feel grounded and creepy through nostalgia, atmosphere, and subtle storytelling. The fact that the series is never able to recapture the atmosphere and horror of the first game is a shame. And as long as the newer games remain canon, I don’t think it possibly can. Scott clearly wanted to move onto something else after the 4th game. The fact that he was willing to retcon the story of the first three games into being just a dream, kinda shows that he didn’t really care about the franchise anymore. But obviously that concept didn’t sit well with fans who spent hours picking apart these games and researching the lore. This was pretty much the first red flag that Scott may have forgotten what this franchise was supposed to be, and why it appealed to so many people. But regardless, Scott clearly wasn’t invested in this franchise anymore, but at the same time, he didn’t want to leave fans with an unsatisfying ending. So he made the game he wanted to make. He made a goofy sci-fi “horror” game and slapped the fnaf brand on it. This is when the franchise lost me. The world no longer felt intriguing or believable. Theorizing about the franchise used to be so special because we genuinely wanted to learn more about this universe that we were so immersed in. The quality of the games was never really brought into question until the 4th game because people were just so immersed in the story to care, and I think that says a lot. Now it just feels like people try to uncover the lore just for the sake of it. Not because we actually care, but because that’s all fnaf really is anymore. It’s a kids franchise with extremely vague lore that will never be solved, because if it was, there would be nothing left to keep people engaged. No horror, no atmosphere, nothing. Anyways, sorry for this rant. I’ve just always been so mind blown by the first three games, and to see the franchise veer so far away from those games is a real shame. Thankfully, I think fans have been able to keep the spirit (no pun intended) of those games alive through vhs tapes, and fan games. I do hope the franchise returns to its roots, but after watching the movie, it seems very unlikely lol. There’s a lot more I could go into, but I might as well just make a yt video rant if i keep going lol. Thank you to those who read this extremely long rant. And great job on the video. You summed up a lot of my thoughts very well, and hopefully more people speak up about the direction of the franchise so we can get back on track. Hopefully Scott hands the franchise over to someone who understands why fnaf became popular in the first place. And hopefully they retcon the new games. It would only be fitting since Scott keeps trying to retcon the old ones lol. And i know it seems like i’ve just been bashing Scott, but I gotta give him credit. I think he did a brilliant job on the first three games. The concepts that he introduced such as the spring-lock suits were extremely creative, and down right brilliant. I just think the problem is that he didn’t want to make fnaf games anymore, so instead of simply making a new series, he just made games that were nothing like what fnaf once was, and just slapped the fnaf brand on it and, tried to tie it into the lore in whatever way he could. Fnaf just became an outlet for Scott to experiment and do whatever tf he wanted, which was obviously never going to work with this franchise.

I really think the Mimic could work, I mean let's imagine this, an AI which learnt how to mimic victims and victimizers, just put it in a more realistic setting and this would be powerful, like for example instead of a futuristic mall, is a small town restaurant where there aren't animatronics, but employees wearing mascot costumes, and in the night the costumes started to moving on their own because someone or something is wearing them, yiacks

I remember FNAF theories in 2014 - 2015 when there was only the trilogy of the first games. the story was complicated but it was better than now, I personally think it should have ended in the third game even though I liked the fourth game and some others.

I do identify as a FNAF fan but I agree with the majority of your points. I personally think it lost its spark around sister location Michael’s death was confusing and rather boring, like wasn’t it supposed to do something I can’t even remember what cause it didn’t really impact the story. I think it would’ve been more interesting to have William murder him or something, finally getting revenge for the event that lead him down this path and then he would still be around but we could have a new main antagonist. I also agree with security breach it felt like a different franchise in my opinion like it’s just not it for me, I was thinking about how it would be if it was still set in the 80s or 90s; to give some time to set up a new pizza place while letting things run their course cause people must really suck to not care at all about these dead children; and I think it would much more uncanny not only because of the uncanny style but also Gregory could’ve been hiding in a spring locked suit like every moment you would be wondering if it would just snap. The potential!!! Great video! Have a nice day!

Scrapbaby is the scooped endoskeleton of baby separated from Ennard, and the rest of her is junk she used to rebuild her body. Scraptrap, Scott usually designs and redesigns things because he thinks they are cool or scary or he just likes the designs. Toy Chica and Scraptrap are examples which he commented on before. Scott actually outright stated that he is not canon to the games, and that the games exist in the world to explain the non canon characters. Most MatPat criticisms is followed up with reasons why he is wrong I noticed. That aside I think MatPat's theories actively spread misinformation. I would point to no his Mario video as the prime example, with the addition of him admitting he twists information and leaves out important contradicting information to create a narrative using said Mario video as an example.

I feel like Security Breach would have been so much creepier had it been set in something like... the old Lollihop in Munich maybe? I haven't been there in many many years, but I remember the atmosphere clearly
It's an indoor playground kinda thing and actually has some of the things shown in SB! Especially the giant jungle gym really took me back to my childhood. I remember getting lost in it, and set in a horror game that would be TERRIFYING! Looking out the mesh on the sides, seeing where you need to get, but not knowing how to get there? Scaryyy

Personally I love fnaf and the lore doesn’t become an issue if you view security breach as a different continuity like the books or movie. I feel like people tend to forget that the story of the games are supposed to be in the back burner and you can puzzle it together if you want. That’s a part of the fun is the community making their own timelines. Also the story is written in such a fun way using phone guy and mini games. You also gotta realize each game was going to be last in scotts mind - side note I really recommend dawkos interview with Scott if you got the time - so that being said I think Scott did an amazing job making each game for what it is and there’s aspects of the games and story that truly make it the best for me

I think that alone FNAF SB is an amazing game. It's so cool in concept (it does have it's faults though) but when you consider it's supposed to be part of a HORROR franchise... It all falls apart along with the story. If someone made the concept of FNAF SB as a separate game I think I'd love it so much but it disappoints in the lack of horror

  • @coyotix

You know this video made me realize something. The animatronics became different forms of scary throughout time. Fredbear and Springbonnie were scary because they didn't know anything, but could kill you. The possessed animatronics know what's going on, but they don't know you, and will kill you if they find you. And the AI-powered SB animatronics know who you are and will hunt to kill you.
They're all scary for different reasons, but fall under similar categories- what they know about whatever is happening, and what they know about you.

I think the reason that micheal was not killed is because the remnant, considering ennard was a combination of all the funtimes put together, its got a bit of dead kid juice in the mix, since the funtimes are essentially just remnant farms (i think? i dont know whats canon and whats theories we all just heavily believe at this point)
your so right about scraptrap and scrapbaby (thought i think her design is cool) i dont really understand why they look like that, i mean scrapbaby has a literally traffic light on her, rollerskates, and a claw hand? maybe she just fixed herself up with random parts lol
i feel like the reason the lore is so loved even though its scattered and stuff is because thats part of the fun and thats why its been alive for so long, and keeps coming back (!? afton reference) even if the scattered-ness is not intentional, its leaves alot of openness for imagination
i agree with you on the security breach thing, and yes sun and moon are really cool. Ruin though, personally, i think its great. i think it was the perfect mix of everything, and ill be honest i cried a few times. I agree with you on the mimic thing, i think its a cool character, but it doesnt really make sense, what is it? also its kind of *COUGH* ugly *COUGH*

First, we don't know home much the Facial System good actually works, also considering that the Fazbear Ent. in not that of a honest company and the possibility that William could tempered the animatronics make me really doubt that will actually work.
Plus, the Charlie Murder happened in a heavy rain night, outside a restaurant, and at the time (IIRC) the Marionette worked using an armlet system to recognize Charlie.

Like you, I love FNAF, it has been part of my life for like 5-6 years now, but there are a lot of things I think are problematic or stuff I don’t like. For example, the rouge developer, like you, was a bit “eh” for me, and FNAF security Breach had so much potential that it didn’t do. What I hope moving forward is that they explore the A.I more, how it can affect people’s lives, and maybe even AI art too since that has been so bad recently. If you try to put all of the books and the games into one story you would get so many conflicting things that cannot be true simultaneously, and so the only way to make a coherent story is put details into multiple timelines, thus mimic and Glitch-trap is both simultaneously the same and different characters at the same time all depending on what timeline you're going with😑

    • @dumbly-stupid

How mimic and glitchtrap are the same and are different (if it's true) is that glitchtrap is a offspring of Mimic1 (the code) and is but not The Mimic (the animatronic). I have never been scared of Fnaf which is kind of sad. I wish Scott kept going with the scare and serial killer part of the story. I love Sun & moon though; they gave me a creep factor while also interesting me.

  • @linkzellda
    @linkzellda Před 7 dny +1

The reason FNAF Lore doesn't make sense is due to the fact that it isn't very consistent. We can also see this in the Novels as well.
How come no one found the bodies of the missing children? Human bodies typically begin to decompose within a year, but take up to a decade to completely decompose, leaving only the skeleton. And you thought the terrible smell inside the Anymatronic will give it away? And will the person responsible for repairing the animatornic report the bodies once they are found? Why they built Springlock Suits that can kill anyone inside of it instead of simply making empty costumes. WIlliam Afton got scared like a coward over the children he killed, and went inside his deathtrap of a suit, aware of how dangerous it was, and laughed. The player didn't try to leave to save itself at all even though there were plenty of times when we could, and come back for work knowing how dangerous it was.
Michael Afton aka the Player in Sister Location didn't get out of the Scooper's way despite there being enough room to evade it, and leaved the place in the first place. The Fazbear Entertainment somehow didn't get sued for all of the shady stuff that they did including selling toys that can cut fingers. The Police are shomehow incompetent that a guy can get away with murder several times. The Fazbear's Fright Employees somehow didn't notice that a dead guy was inside Springtrap. The designed for the buildings are so poorly design that the faulty wiring makes the whole place catch on fire and to move in Sister Location you have to uses the ventilation.
Scott maybe is a decent game designer, but he is poor at Literature.
