I think there are a number of things that "don't work" with this alternative ending. One of the things that makes this film work comedically, apart from the raw comedy talent and writing, is that the violence is cartoonish. You see a flat dog, but you don't see any blood. When Otto is killed by the steamroller, in this ending, you see a lot of blood in the wet cement, and it kills the comedy. Because we like Otto, we feel sorry for him, we don't want him to die. In the official ending, we see Otto looking in through the window of the plane, which is genius because it mirrors the scene from the apartment. The official ending was the right decision.
yeah not to mention him not losing his stutter also is a letdown, whereas the original ending is cathartic.
I love the BA Trident in the background!
The one they went with is definitely more fun, though this one’s not bad. The the actual ending packs a punch.
Even in death Otto is still giving the finger;
they shouldve kept the stuttering joke in the final because that was unexpectedly hilarious, but other than that, yeah, good decisions

This alternate cut is way funnier and it makes sense how he got the pass too...
He bought the ticket (which in this scene he ate). The replacement he grabbed from Otto’s freshly steamrolled corpse was cut so he always had one pass whichever thread you follow.

Just watched this. Been at least 20+ year's since I've seen it. Still holds up. Great movie
