Kline was gold in this movie. He went toe to toe with two Pythons and was the most memorable part of this film.
He was also brilliant in "Soap Dish"
Got him an Oscar
True, but the Pythons basically ceded the more glamorous parts to the American actors! Kline and Curtis's roles are more dynamic and funny than the parts the Pythons took for themselves.
@@Unknown-jt1jo I should have worked that out. Stephan Frey one explained the difference between American and English comedy using the scene from Animal House where Belushi destroys a folk singer’s guitar. He said an American comedian would rather be Belushi. The Brit would rather be the folk singer. Not an exact parallel, but your observation seems consistent with Freys.
Agreed. He stole the show
Kline really deserved that Oscar. Such a funny performance
Yes, but he deserved it even more for the part of Nathan in Sophie's Choice and he did not even get a nomination for that..
The ‘don’t call me stupid’ bedroom scene is British slapstick comedy at its finest. Perfect comedic timing and acting from Cleese and Kevin Klein. So funny 😂
One of the greatest performances in one of the greatest films of all time. Kevin Kline was incredible in this. The Academy really got it right with this win!
Kevin Kline is one of the few actors who can do both drama and comedy. After winning his Oscar for "A Fish Called Wanda", he went off to New York to do "Hamlet" on stage.
Dont,xu
I love how Cleese's script pokes fun at both Americans and the English
Such a great film - Kline was top notch - and his comedic timing & chemistry with the whole cast was brilliant - especially with Cleese.
His versatility, especially with this manic character who goes through so many personalities (not to mention accents)... Brilliant!
Kevin played that superbly! Pure and utter joy to watch😂
Otto has kept us rolling on the floor in the cinema. For real.
The rest of the movie, too.
"I apologize unreservedly"... The best false apology I've ever heard!
Very British too! 😂
Such a hilarious character absolutely nailed by Kevin Klein 😂
Kevin Kline is a fabulous comic actor. It is a pity he did so few comedies. His best character, for sure. Certainly the funniest.
I remember at the time Americans were so shocked that the Brits viewed them this way, although now no one would be shocked, because they can just read the comments left in the comments section on various websites.
They left out one of the best parts! When he's in the car by himself.. "Im so very.. very.. very....." lololol..
Harvey Manfrengensenden🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I could listen to that for an hour.
Then she flawlessly addressed him as such. Brilliant writing and execution.
Manfrenjensenjen…
I showed this movie to my girlfriend and she could barely contain her laughter any time Otto was on screen. I was delighted until she told me that she was laughing because he reminded her of me. 😳
Hahah! Dude, that's AWESOME! That's a great compliment! :D
Start talking to her in Italian
You should feel flattered. Who can claim to have the power to make people laugh that much?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The part where he was lying about being a CIA agent was absolutely hilarious.
Mr Manfrenjensenmen
Kline never fails to amaze. I know him best from "Dave" -- probably his most sympathetic character in his filmography.
Here he shows a remarkable talent for outlandish absurdity while still remaining true to the character he portrays.
Yes, an Academy Award performance.
I loved Kevin in "Dave." He and Sigourney Weaver have great onscreen chemistry, and it really shows.
Actors awarding each other trophies and accolades is a shamefully overblown practice; every time I think of Hollywood, John Lydon's line from Open Up (w/ Leftfield) comes to mind:
_"BURN, HOLLYWOOD BURN_
_TAKE DOWN TINSEL DOWN_
_BURN DOWN INTO THE GROUND"_
Which isn't meant as a rebuke of your comment, BTW: I'm totally with you re Kevin Kline in A Fish Called Wanda :)
...and don't call me Otto! 🤣🤣🤣 One of the most memorable and hilarious movies I've ever seen in all my life, if not the best! Kline is just perfect, but the others are quite brilliant as well!
Kevin pretty much steals the show in every movie he's in.
I love the people watching in the parking lot as Otto's dangling Archie out the window.
The scene where he tortures the guy by sticking the chips into his nose and then proceeds to eat his fish is hilarious.
"Avoid the green ones. They're not ripe yet." A line misquoted by both of my brothers as: "Don't eat the green ones. They're not ripe yet." Ironically my two youngest nephews laugh at the misquoted line and say: "Do it again!"
The man won a OSCAR in a comedy!!!!
I smiled when he won his Oscar for this outlandish character he created.
Wanda is such a Masterpiece !! Wanda does not age !! Wanda is Forever ❤
There was a time with this and Marisa Tomei that the Academy would give great comedic performances their due
But always in the supporting category…unfortunately
Firing his gun: "I'm thinking!" That is the most fitting portrait of the average American male that I ever saw...:-)
Certainly a fierce creature. 🐠
7:29 One of my favorite bits when he’s sneaking out of the house and the wife comes home. So goddamn funny!
Kévin Kline brought a lot to the movie. Of course it's a fantastic script, à great part, but Kévin brought it to another level ❤
As an actress I'm too tired to look up once said, "You have to be smart to play this dumb!" This is one of the funniest movies ever made! ^_^
Kevin Kline is amazing in this movie.
He was fantastic in this mad role!
This whole movie was nuts, I love it!
"Why are you telling everyone?" lol
my favorite Kevin Kline character.
In addition to Kevin Kline's comedic skills, I am also impressed with his physicality.
Kevin Kline is such f'king underrated actor!!! He's so good in this and every other movie he's been in!
He won an Oscar for his performance in this film, so I wouldn't say he's underrated.
The Academy Awards gave the Best Supporting Actor award to Kline, while the BAFTA's gave the award to Palin
At 3:51, absolutely the best John Cleese comedic moment! 🤣😂🤣😂
A true classic with a stellar cast.😁(including the green one)🐟
Kevin Kline delivered one of the brest comedy performances of the era. I'm surprised he didn't play more characters like Otto.
IMO the greatest comedic performance ever captured on film.
Bill Paxton in True Lies is second.
A distant second, yes. Being second isn't always a bad thing.
Especially when it's entirely subjective.
Deciding factor: How long and how hard I'm rolling on the floor, begging for mercy!😑
Such a gorgeous man ❤
In all of comedy there is no other Otto. 😂
DISAPPOINTED! you left out one bloody marvelous scene
This is so classic. Humans have gotten soft.
Brilliant…..
"I'm *_D I S A P P O I N T E D ! ! ! "_*
What a crack-up!
My all time favourite: The fish eating scene. "The English tribution to world cuisine: the chip. And what do the English usually eat with chips? Wait a moment... it´s fish..." 😂😂
Weapon of a film.
he won an Oscar for this character.
One of the best comedy films of all time. Well written. Well acted. Original (or looked that way to me). Name actors and comedians. If you were a fan of Monty Python....you`d like this movie as it has John Cleese. We don`t hae films like this nor talent like John in comedy today. Kind of sad.
Gone are the days of comedians in film...thouth there was Kevin Hart, Dave Chapelle...but they don`t seem to be working `lately`....
No films you`d want to go to the trouble of driving to the local cinema to see. Line up for. ...which was part of the fun...when there were `good films`, blockbustgers....The days when we first got Indina Jones, Star wars, Blade runner, Tombstone, Unforgiven, Lord Of the rings films, 10....films you couldn`t stop talking about after seeing them...have movie posters on your walls maybe..
cleese's face while kline is yapping...
"My name is Otto. It means eight."
I never laughed so hard this was primo.😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
he was the best🤣
Kevin Cline : maybe one of the best actor performance ever in this movie .
Saw the movie several times and Kevin stays BRILLIANT , every time again , it never bores you : you have to laugh .................
They could have had an amazingly successful franchise with Kevin in the Otto role
Aaaalllloooo Wanda! Freakin classic 👌
And he married Phoebe Kates...... Wowza wow wow ! ! !
One of my favourite movies of ALL TIME. I always, ALWAYS LAUGH OUT LOUD 😀🤣❤🖖🙏🕊🌍
The loveable sociopath. World class movie!
My favourite film ever
His Italian is so funny hes ,saying pasta and primavera(spring )
Nowadays, most people don't understand me sniffing my armpits and speaking Italian 🤣🍻🤘
‘Ah, si, I was wondering if you could me through to the polizia?’ 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Classic
🎉Kline is very funny! My mom she is called Vanda. I love this movie. All Casting is great! Kevin Kline, congrats! I want to watch again now! Thanks, MGM!
😊

John Cleese at 3:51. 😂
"DON'T eat the green ones!
Helloooo Lunch, gullet time !
_"England is a fine country"_ has to be the best line in the movie.
Otto is like an American John Cleese
One of the funniest movies ever!
Interesting enough, my brother actually thought that Otto was played by a British actor trying his best to sound American when he saw this movie for the first time. He didn’t know much about famous actors then, but I can see why he believed that considering the long, wordy insult he threw at John Cleese’s character at one iconic point in the film. In real life most Americans would just say something like “well f*ck you!” but to us that’s just part of the charm.
Kline took this movie from a B to an A.
now his is a comedy
Kevin was just being a typical American tourist.
I love Kevin Klein. Guys one day check out 'Grand Canyon' with him and Danny Glover. I don't think you'll be disappointed
“I’m Harvey Manfrengenson.”
Half G. Gordon Liddy, and half Barney Fife.
Apparently somebody literally died of lAughter
Anyone else smell an odor? Kinda like, a fish odor? 😃😊
Whenever I hear, "This is Otto," my brain always go back to Repo Man where Oly says, "Otto? Auto-parts? Hahaha!!!"
Manfrenjinsen 😂
Kevin Kline would have been a better choice for a Pink Panther reboot.
(Alfredo Molina as well)
Seriously, *Steve Martin* as Inspector Clousseau?
🤢
O.t.o. rules o.k. 😎♥️
great performance, hard to imagine the same guy went on to gave one of the worst comedic performances in Wild Wild West. Shows how much difference the writers and directors make.
A Fish Called Wanda Otto Is Villain Played (Kevin Kline)
"You have wonderful bones"
4:28 Barstewards! You cut off the best part of that scene!
Wow
He is funny as F🤣
Write a hypothesis
Sometimes the Oscars get it right. It happened in 1989.
Avoid the green ones. They're not ripe yet.
Crikey that lady should of played Laura Craft innit !!! oh yes !!!
JFC, there is no such thing as "Best of Kevin Kline"
WHERE THE DIAMONDS
You think you’re SOOOOO SUPERIOR
