    Loving the new trend of avant garde design coming out at reasonable prices. I was lucky enough to get an invite for the Mad 1 earlier this year, and have now ordered the Viola Bel Canto for 2023.

    Just found your channel and love it! This is the best review of the Bel Canto I’ve seen because you actually own it. Just yesterday I preordered a C1 in Cielo as part of their new release. I never thought I’d want next October to come so quickly. Keep up the great work and you should have many more subscribers!!

      Hey there and thanks for watching, glad you liked the review. Love owning it and wearing it! As for the subs, yeah...I tend to do longer vids, go into detail, and then also half of my stuff is on the watchmaking side. Apparently many "watch people" prefer outrageous titles, drama, dealers, and a couple other characteristics. I try to make content for enthusiasts.

    Greetings from the CW Forum, Brian. Now THAT is exactly how an enthusiast wants to see a watch like this discussed. Bravo. Landmark of a watch. With the benefit of hindsight, how did CW not know they had created a piece that would rock the industry? When does a rock star know 'yeah, this will be a world-wide Number One?' At least now they have a serial release, so for those of us who missed the LE window, a piece of horological history can be had, even if it might take a while.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před rokem +1

      Hey there. Thank you for watching and for the kind words about my review approach. I think they had a sense it might, or at least the hope it would be successful, but then again you just don't know for sure until you put it out there, at least that's how it was expressed to me. And yes, even as an owner of one of the LE colors, I'm glad it's going more general production in other colors. CW has the philosophy of making this sort of horology accessible to enthusiasts, so it's all good.

    • @mberger5798
      @mberger5798 Před rokem

      Do you think the Bell Canto will be of a general production and go down in price on the grey market or do you think they will produce in unofficial numbers and stop the production like the c9 moonphase?

    • @chrisgrieves1468
      @chrisgrieves1468 Před rokem

      @@mberger5798 My expectation is that the Bel Canto becomes a model and much like any model release it runs its course over whatever time frame makes sense. For now CW is taking orders for 4 new colours available to those who expressed interest and that is probably thousands of pieces but over the next year or so. Going onto the website for general orders (new colours?) will happen but maybe CW doesn't even know when yet. That may well be about supplier limits as much as anything. The scale is quite different that was originally imagined.

    • @mberger5798
      @mberger5798 Před rokem

      It’s really confusing tho, those limited editions doesn’t make a sense either if they decide to release more of these watches but in different colours. They said that blue/green are special edition ”watches” but soon everyone (pontentially) will be able to get them. I wonder how the value of this watch will be affected by this release? CW should be open about this and tell the people how they are thinking instead of seeing this as a money grab.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před rokem +3

      CW only said that the blue and green would be LEs of 300, which won't be produced again. CW didn't say they wouldn't make any other colors. CW has done many LEs based on colors, not models/watches. As for the value, the watch is under $3k. You won't find another watch like this at that price point, so it's a good deal regardless. If people are buying the LEs to flip or "invest" then that's their problem and irrelevant to me and many other enthusiasts who buy a watch like this because we like it and want to wear it. Personally, I couldn't care less about the future value. As for the "money grab", if CW was treating this as a money grab then they would have jacked the prices of these way up, either with the first LEs or with the new demand-based production models, but they didn't. People would easily pay another grand for these and they'd still be a deal for what they are. There isn't another watch out there like it at this price point. From my research, the next closest that has significant design to it is over $20k and it's ugly. CW kept their typical 3x markup applied to all models and kept the new models at the same price because their philosophy is not just about money, it's about making horology affordable. In my estimation, that is admirable. At the same time, if it were your company and you had a very successful product, wouldn't you want to make money back on all the time, resources, R&D, and production cost? Perhaps they could have said up front, we are going to do a color LE of 300 and see how it goes, and if it's successful we might do other colors. I think that is what they were thinking, not "We are only going to ever make 300 of this watch model." Again, from my perspective, I'm glad they are bringing out more colors in larger production. The more people that can experience a beautifully designed chiming watch on the wrist the better. And CW will have more money to put into future R&D, movements, and designs. WIN-WIN.

    Brilliant well considered review! Kudos for getting #2. (I was pleased to get a number in the 50s!..) Really enjoyed the slowed down chime. I went for leather and must say a disadvantage is the strap is too long for me (as well as a bit too wide as you indicated.) I’ve been considering a new strap but your review makes me think maybe I should have gone bracelet after all.. My two favourite elements are the brilliant shine of all the reflections on the dial - such quality. And I still get a thrill every time I hear the chime.

And I would also add that if the sticker price for this watch seems high to you, then you need to watch the video again or do more research into chiming watches. In a friendly tone...current odds of finding something similar looking regardless of price point...0% chance. Odds of finding something with the same functionality that looks as good at the price point...0% chance. That's just fact.

    I feel like 70% of the dial being the repeater is disproportionate to the point of a watch, and the excess of dead space on the dial reinforces that. If the clock face were enlarged somewhat, and add a second hand for goodness sake, I’d be on board.

    • @WatchComplications

      I wouldn't contextualize it that way at all, the blue is limited and won't be reproduced, only 300. I would say try a CW at some point, or you’re probably missing out on at least one aspect of watch collecting.

      It's a missed opportunity. They want to "democratise luxury watches" or some nonsense like that, yet only make the most popular colors by a lot way (blue and green) limited so they sell out within hours, leaving only odd colours left to order. That's a poke in the eye of potential brand fans. They are playing Rolex games now. CW have lost me over this.

    This is intersting watch, but is not for me. I am not shure about If I like to look at lot of unsymetry. I especially like the price and the idea.

      To me, it feels visually balanced overall, so I'm not sure what might seem most out of place? But yeah, hard to argue with the price and idea given what it is.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před rokem

      It was crazy popular, I don't think CW was sure how popular it would be. I told them ahead of time it would sell out the first day. I know it's a wait, but I hear that CW is doing a good job of keeping people updated on the production of their watch along the way.

    • @guycalabrese4040
      @guycalabrese4040 Před rokem

      @@WatchComplications It doesn't matter if CW sends you e-mails every now and then to keep the customer "comfy" - the wait is too long. It's not a Rolex sub that you can flip for more than double the price. It's a pity, really.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před rokem

      That depends and is somewhat subjective. I like the Bel Canto way better than a Rolex sub (which is overpriced). And some Bel Cantos have gone on the market and made quite a profit since it's release. Waits are sometimes part of the watch game, be it Rolex, Bel Canto, Kickstarter projects, pre-orders for microbrands, etc. Thanks for your comments :)

      Just found an affordable watch with the same complication - the Meistersinger Bel ora. Same price range. CW looks better, though...

      @WatchComplications  Před rokem +1

      @@guycalabrese4040 yeah CW actually helped them design that movement, it was the starting point. Then for their own Bel Canto they elevated it many ways, in terms of movement construction and design.

    Way too much hype for that one! No branding, poor legibility, one year waitlist for a 4K watch that rings ONCE an hour? This will get old in no time.
