    Hi Bruce,
    While plants only "need" the big 13 mineral nutrients, they also take up many many more and make them available to us. However, they technically don't need these nutrients to survive. Most of the other nutrients humans need are available in a diverse diet, and the plants grown in your system are still supplying a vast majority of these- they just aren't listed as "essential" for plant growth and development.

    Hello guys, I see that on the newer videos you are using hydroponics system instead of aquaponics. In your opinion, what system is more economic viable?
    Great work by the way, you have progressed a lot since 2013. :)

    • @ZipGrowInc
      @ZipGrowInc  Před 8 lety +1

      Hi +MrJohnnation - Thanks! It's been fun! The more growers we help, the bigger our company gets and the more we can help growers. It's a nice cycle. So "economically viable" is a bit of a loaded question. It might actually be the wrong question all together because of course the answer is "it depends". What does your market want? Do they want/care about the fish part? How much experience do you have with either? How much time do you have to learn the ropes? There are a lot of questions that must be answered but in general, hydro is much simpler and easy for people to get started in which is why recommend it as an aspiring commercial grower's first system. The learning curve is much less steep and you're only worrying about plants, instead of trying to balance plants and fish (i.e. automatically doubling your complexity.) However, that's not to say there isn't a market for aquaponics, but that question requires one to examine not only what their goals and they are capable of, but also the needs of their markets. Too many variables to say one way or another without knowing more about the individual grower!

      I haven't used in in AP systems, and don't have the label handy. I usually shy away from telling folks to supplement AP systems with hydro fertilizers meant for pure hydro systems. It's a great solution in conventional hydro though.

    Sir in aquaponics, plant raises from fish waste, then why we need extra nutrients npk like in hydroponics?

    • @bryanst.martin7134
      @bryanst.martin7134 Před 5 lety

      Because the fish don't offer the micronutrients due to the food they are fed. The macronutrients are fairly well represented from the fish waste, provided a proper bioreactor system is working. Otherwise you would be buying fertilizer on a regular basis to feed the plants. In liquid form it is expensive to ship, and powdered form requires careful measuring and mixing. And as Dr Nate described keeping the right balance is critical for availability and uptake into the plants. Just like pH, it all has to balance. You are providing an environment for several life forms: Fish, two bacterias, and plants.

    • @bryanst.martin7134

      Plan on watching hundreds of videos to get an understanding. I've watched for 3 years, and just starting to build. Search aquaponics on YT, find the system style that seems to fit your needs and then study. Dr Storey has a PHD in this, so don't expect to glean it over in one night and get started. :-)

    Nate~ great stuff...u speak about plant needed nutrients..got that~ where we as humans get our 60-70 minerals needed for optimum health if a plant only has 16 minerals? What can we add to this system to achieve the best plant life for human consumption that will feed our cells?? As I want to do this on a big scale but in a first class manner....colloidal mineral supplementation? or some other way?
