  • G'Day Folks. Had the nutrient level in the aquaponics system tested & thought it would interesting for fellow aqua growers to see the results. I also run through the nutrient supplements that we add on a regular basis.
Will be posting a follow-up clip on how the amendments are going in a few weeks time.
Hope you enjoy this quick update & your gardens are booming.
    Cheers all. 🐟 🌱🍅

Can we use organic fertilizer for other Nutrient deficiencies.?

@@samsunny6483 Those ones are safe for fish. 👍 I would recommend only using organic fertilisers but not ones that use a great deal of nitrogen or ammonia as there should be more than enough in the waste provided by the fish.

Great clip Rob thank you. To make it easy to add nutrients i find it useful to embed a shallow cup under the inlet pipe. That way you just dump the powder into the cup, it dissolves and the water overflows into the system. You do get a bit of algae in the cup but its easily cleaned.

Not really, occasionally I'll put in some liquid seaweed but I'm guessing with amounts and I think the actual problem may be my ph sits around 8.2 and I can't seem to bring it down. Even though I painted my tanks I still browny green slime on them. I also have old roots through my grow beds but I've put in a hand full of worms into each grow bed and I thought that would fix that. I only see 1 or 2 occasionally so maybe they've got through to the tanks and been eaten?

What kinds of dangers are there to supplementing iron in other ways? I sometimes will have an iron deficiency in my soil growing beds, which I remedy by simply burying a rusty nail at the base of each plant, and I find that this usually works quite well. Would this same method work for an aquaponics system? Or would the rust in the water be toxic to the fish?

It depends on the water temp & size of fish as to what I feed them. 👍
At the moment they are getting about a 1-1½% feed rate at a guess but won't know for sure until the weather warms up a bit & we can weigh a few up.
It's best to ask the hatchery where you get your fingerlings what they suggest as they will have a better idea for the species you pick & your climate.
