This video has a lot of flashing colors. If you're susceptible to seizures, be careful, please. Your viewing experience will look significantly better if you manually set your CZcams resolution settings to 1440p or 2160p (for desktop, click the gear icon in the lower right). Just leaving it on “Auto HD” results in some pretty intense distortion during a few sections, because when the the colors and patterns get crazy, there’s actually just too much information flying by for CZcams’s normal HD compression. We broke the matrix. The good people of CZcams have been working with us to solve this (it’s a bit rate limitation issue) over the last 24 hours, but there’s no quick fix, and now it’s Thanksgiving in the US, and we’re all with our families.

We need a full blown Netflix documentary about all the people involved in making these music videos. Every single one is a piece of art.

Yeah, they're creative alright. So many other bands and artists use the term "creativity" trying to look interesting and hip. This guys are the real deal, this is how you create stuff, by being the first to do something cool, never done before. You're not creative if you sing a song, play an instrument or draw a painting or whatever other artistic thing. You need to actually come with GOOD ideas never done before. That's creativity.

I admire these guys so much. The amount of time they put into music videos is insane. The sheer amount of math and calculation that had to go into that video is absolutely incredible.

Every time I watch this video I can't help but think about the music video for Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. Not just the fact that it's "stop-motion" but the feel of it, the vibes and the energy behind it. The song also sounds like something Peter Gabriel would make. That's seriously awesome because he's a great singer. Good job to everyone involved.
My printer during school year: doesn't print anything
My printer 6 months later printing out my essays from multiple years ago:
Just to be clear. Those printers aren't printing everything in real time. They've been loaded with the Pre-printed paper and they're just feeding it out when directed to by the special effects operator.
Still amazing, but they don't have to deal with changing ink cartridges or setting up a bazillion print jobs.
So they are printing out "empty" documents at the right time to eject the pre-printed papers? That explains the speed, and is a great idea.
Nonetheless the synchronizing was an awesome job
That's so smart! I was just wondering how they'd deal with it if they ran out of ink halfway through on a few of the printers.

They wouldn't have been printing the images during the video. They sheets would have been all preprinted in advance to ensure that there wasn't any printing issues during the video.

These printers were most likely specially programmed and the papers in their decks were probably printed and put in before the shoot - that explains why the papers just spew out, instead of getting slowly printed like by a normal printer

As a graphic design college student who has to fight for a printer that are connected to a computer or has ink in my labs this video is making me extremely jealous with these printers working seamlessly
They're likely not printing the papers on set. They're pre-printed and they put the papers in order for the printer to merely push it out.

I was thinking the same thing, but I agree with the pre-printed theory, especially since the prints were borderless, something you’ll never achieve by just printing
Maxwell Fong Almost all inkjet printers made in the last 15 years or so are capable of borderless printing. That said, desktop inkjets couldn’t print fast enough for this, so I’m sure they were just ejecting preprinted sheets. (Using custom software I’m sure, since that’d be needed to hold the sheets in place instead of them just falling to the floor immediately.)
Honestly would have been 1000x as satisfying in real time. The sound of the printers all going at once was super satisfying. Sad that we'll never get to see that.
Except for the part where they had to wait for the papers to be swept up and formed into piles. That may have taken a few minutes, at least, for each pile -- but yes, it would have been cool to see the printed versions of themselves being replaced from printer to printer - moving like paper animations.
One would think that after Upside Down & Inside Out, these guys wouldn’t want anything more to do with flying of any kind. Awesome video! OK Go never ceases to amaze me with their talent. Kudos to the brains behind the scenes as well =)

The real struggle of making this video probably wasnt getting the timing and the programming right, but finding this many printers that will flawlessly work and NOT turn on humanity when they are needed.
They aren't printing in that moment. The paper just go thorugh it. That's why it's working so fast and flawless.

Chuck PK the printers are just spitting the papers out, not printing, as you can see during the beginning and end when it is normal speed. Looks like they got all the papers ordered in the colors/patterns, aside from maybe a few printed from when they had the guys printed on there.

I discovered OK Go very recently, and I'm watching all of their extraordinarily brilliant videos! The only thing I wonder is how do they budget the videos? Does the music make enough money to cover these or they're super rich people who are spending their money in one of the coolest way possible?!

once you can hack the printers to be assignable, and control their single page feed command, this becomes possible. Once you realize that the printers only job is to produce pages on demand and not create the art, the possibilities become huge.
