I learned recently, from an old pipeline welder, that you can use your soapstone aligned on the mating edge of your torpedo level to make center marks on horizontal pipe perpendicular to level and practically 180° from each other.
put the soap stone between the pipe and level then holding it level strike a line on the top of the pipe then do the same on the bottom.

Yes, that will work. I have been cutting and working with a bandsaw for so long I can site it and hit spot on. Thanks for checking me out.

Yep, portable bandsaw is the best. My go to for most of my cutting also. I never use cut of discs (well, not never but almost never) they’re so dirty and loud. Tried teaching band saw surgery to a helper, he was very inconsistent, so I guess it might have a little higher difficulty to learn. The pay off is well worth it though…..good advise, keep it up.

Portable band saw I think Is the easiest to learn for cutting pipe. Took me about to get the hang of coping with it vs months to get good with the torch but the I think a cutting torch is still superior in some ways

I hope to show more things I have picked up along the way. Thanks

Getting ready to make some stuff out of pipe, what I’m worried about is calculating how long to cut the pipe to account for the notch took out

Whatever size pipe you are cutting, add 1/2 of that size pipe to each end. So, if you have 2 ft. between the pipe and that pipe is 2; pipe, add 1' to each end. And cut that 1' with the notch.

If and when it is needed I do clean the steel. But about 90% of the time it is NOT needed. I let the flux or gas do its job. Thanks for your input, And I will comment on this in the next video.
