- In this video we go back to where the tasting videos began - with Mexican Lager! Only this time, we sourced cans. Sadly we were not able to find Dos Equis, our winner from the bottle round, but the results here were definitely interesting!

You need a showdown of the American pale ales - curious how Sierra Nevada still holds up to newer varieties
Sierra Nevada pale ale ain’t been hitting right lately for me
It’s cool seeing a beer wizard taste normal everyday brews
That reminds me of all the beers I've encounter with a dedicated wizard name. Fantastic.
I would like to see a showdown of some of the Japanese rice lagers. Sapporo is a favorite!
we filmed it but haven't edited it. we only had three and I feel like it's lacking and we have to do it over again.
@@treehousebrewcoI’ll keep an eye out for it! Thanks
@@treehousebrewcobtw, we visited the Maker’s bazaar. It was a blast!
@@treehousebrewcoI drink a lot of Japanese beer, and finding 5 in the US would be tough without going into varieties from the same brewers. Sapporo, Kirin, Asahi and Orion…after that I’d be stumped for something that wasn’t craft. I’m guessing you didn’t have Orion, it’s from Okinawa, good stuff!
New subscriber. Love to see these taste tests. It is kind of fun to see where you rank our favorites. Cheers!
Love these videos. Super fun.
Just found this channel have been binging these videos all day. Appriciate the professional breakdown without looking down on big name brand beers, now i need to find some Tree House down here in Florida!
Much appreciated!
My dudes you are crushing it with these videos. I enjoy watching them almost as much as drinking Treehouse Beers. Please keep this channel alive and well!!
thank you - trying. it's extremely heavy lifting to keep up in addition to my primary duties.
@@treehousebrewco You make it look so easy, though, you're truly a natural in front of the camera! I appreciate all the effort, and every time I see a new video drop on my feed it's a reminder to pick up a couple of 4 packs from your Tewksbury location on my way home from work. ♥ Cheers!
I’ve been waiting all week for this installment! Keep them coming! P.S. Don’t be bashful about including your beers in this lineup. “If you did it, it ain’t bragging!”
thanks for stopping by. certainly not ashamed of including our beer on our channel in a blind tasting - we're having a great time!
Can’t wait to watch the homebrew sampling! I enjoyed watching a comparison of commercial big breweries compared to Treehouse’s example. We have lots of local nice examples of craft Mexican lagers here in Indy (Sun King and others).
thanks! coming soon!
Some videos you ask him to just tell you but I love when you try to guess and even further test your abilities!
That's a sweet sweat shirt.
Treehouse is on my beer bucket list. I definitely need to get my hands on some cans.. and that shirt as well.
I love a good beer especially after work a nice Pacifico that nice refreshingly good eye opening citrus taste served cold
you should do a giveaway to be featured in one of these Beer Showdown videos! Looks like a fun time.
good idea
Can’t wait to try El Mago, guess I should try a dark glass tasting sometime.
You're a brewer, you have a natural advantage over the general public by default. Don't sweat the details, don't let it change your format.
thank you for your thoughts. we try to mix it up a little every video.
I'm requesting a HAZY IPA tasting, or at least an IPA tasting. Love this video format!
And now I am thirsty… Cheers 🍻
My goto hops are crystal/liberty with saaz for my Mexican. And brew it on the dry side to finish at 1.06~1.08. And nottingham likes my brewing conditions.
Would you share what hops you use for El Mago?
Those beers are very distinct, and if I may compare to familiar flavors:
Modelo = cherry
Pacifico = apple
Corona = skunk
Tecate = medicinal with water salts that are off.
How about adding a craft beer from another brewery to these blind tastings? It would make a more interesting video. I guess there is the slight chance that he might prefer the other brewery's beer.
Afternoon Nate.
How about an irish stout tasting? Love these videos!!
Still interesting, would it be possible to know what all the brewers used for hops, that seems to be the difference
Oh this should be entertaining
3 of the brands are owned by an upstate NY company! (Constellation Brands, Victor NY). May be why they tasted similar. Fun video as usual with your tastings. Thanks Nate!
I’ve heard rumors that they do on the fly changeovers and sometimes you can actually get a different brand of beer in the can
Nate did you see the video making the rounds of a beer holding tank exploding on a brewer?
I had a Modelo Especial recently and was surprised how much I enjoyed it (yes, I was eating at a Mexican restaurant and it had a lime). The funniest part of watching this video right now is I am literally drinking a King Julius as I watch Nate sample Mexican lagers… Oh, the irony.
😂 they can’t all be the king!
Ha…nope. All hail the King!!!
Dos Equis is my favorite
Can or a Keg, definitely belter than a bottle, especially if the bottle is green or clear !
I love the hat! Is it on sale at any of the treehouse locations?
thanks, it was on sale at Deerfield but I believe it sold out. hopefully more soon
I like big NW IPAs (full figured beers) but, I do enjoy non US
Pilsner/loggers. Corona is one of my favorites.
El Mago from the clear glass bottles really slaps.
I’ve been on a big modelo kick but it’s so expensive verse just drinking the cheap stuff
I like Pacifico and XX. The big problem with mexican lagers is, they aren't as cheap as domestic dollar beers, while only being marginally better. So if you're going to pay a premium price, basically any European pilzners (that are actually imported, and not brewed here) have substantially more/better flavor.
How about English/Irish beers?😊
you're gonna have to do bottle vs cans next
You should have put in Buenaveza instead of your house beer, mainly to try a great American take on Mexican beer but also avoid bias since you likely tasted your house beer many times and can recognize it.
Irish reds taste test in March maybe?
The only issue I see is beyond Killian’s and Smithwick’s what macro-brewed Irish red ales are there?
I should say that I’ve tried this type of test, and I found that the canned version was better than the glass bottled beer.
We have a short video coming up to demonstrate that. There is no comparison.
Do a taste test of beers hard poured vs soft pour.
noted!
It may be your seasoned palate but do you find drinking water in between tasting each beer helps cleanse your palate before sampling another beer? Maybe more useful on different styles. Love the video and content. Thanks!
It doesn’t really help me personally
Not surprised you picked the Treehouse beer. Freshness matters
Yeah. I would rather see him compare against other LOCAL breweries than the commercial beers.
Let it simmer my dude
Thanks for not including the island boys this time!
😂
Thanks guys.
Our pleasure!
Why not add a "brew it your own" at the end? Give away a recepie for the homebrewers out there? Not a 100% the one you guys brew, but like a recommendation?
Greetings for Norway, a place that can't get any of your beers so feel free to send samples 😂
Digging your videos 🤘
Tried all those Mexican Lager in Mexico, Tecate and Corona indeed suck. Modelo it's not that bad and Pacifico it's the least worse of those 4 for sure, plot twist with a little of lime juice on a hot day 👌
thanks for sharing!
How about a recipe for El Mago?
some pilsner malt, a little bit of flaked maize, your choice of hops to 10 IBU, any macro lager yeast. it's incredibly simple
I know you do these reviews on beers you can find locally but there are much better Mexican beers that you should try.
1. Victoria
2. Bohemia
3. Negra Modelo
My favorite being Victoria it's a Vienna-style lage very tasty especially comparing to other Mexican beers and bohemia is a pilsner style beer and it's probably the cleanest tasting Mexican beer negra Modelo can be considered a brown ale and if you can find them in a silver can they are absolutely delicious but I've only seen those in Mexico so it's probably region specific
thanks for the tip - will check it out!
I second that. Victoria and Bohemia are my personal favorites when it comes to Mexican beers.
But you cant easily shove a lime wedge in a can. 😮
I would be highly disappointed if you couldn't pick out your own beer.
If there’s a choice between cans or bottles, I always choose cans.
definitely
For most styles.
Nice way to hype up ya’s beer lol
Poor Pacifico 😞
indeed
@@treehousebrewco You should think of doing a blind with hard ciders.
tecate lite > tecate
Will have to try it!
I historically don’t like Mexican lagers. El Mago is killer. Had to stop myself from plowing through my 4 pack
I prefer Pacifico in the bottle. Modelo I don't care if it's in a can or bottle. Corona tastes like camel piss. Never had El Mago. Tecate tastes like camel piss times 2.
Why is El-Mago @ $16+ a sixer, while these beers in the video is around $10 ?
Yes, if only Treehouse could have a truly massive brewhouse with constant wort flow, a whole farm of 250,000 litre fermenters, systems that require very few staff, etc.
Damn you economics and your stupid scale of production!
Corona is garbage - the other two in the headline are fine.
None of your recent reviews/tastings/whatever are beers that I even think about much less drink. Basically I like to stick at 7% ABV and above. A beer that can balance the alcohol burn with everything else is my favorite. Gimme that dogfish head 120
How do they not have Dos Equis at any beer store. I feel like this was staged in order to include the Treehouse beer
This content is becoming pretty mundane pretty fast.
Can we have more brewery content? I'd like to see a tour of the taproom and beer cellar.
there is a tour of the cellar on the channel.
I do not like the format of this video, the whole point is mass produced canned Mexican lager and adding your own craft lager is not a fair fight. It has hints of long form commercial, not saying it is, just gets presented that way. I don’t mind the, “and we make a better version of these” at the end like you usually do.
in most of these I feel like he doesnt dislike all of the others as much XD
usually he has much more positives to say about the other beers, even the macro lagers (even if the Treehouse one is still his favorite)
before we started I actually mentioned i hoped i didn’t pick the tree house beer out of fear for this type of feedback. for us it is very useful to level set against beers that we are modeling our own after.
I think he’s always been fair about it and I definitely don’t get a “commercial” feel just because they include their own.
@@datamack agreed
By adding their own beer, which was made to thier own taste and preference is adding bias to an experiment that wasn't supposed to be bias XD, I don't mind just seems odd
Great Video Nate. Thanks to you and your team once again.
Our pleasure!
