  • Beginning astrology was a talk delivered to a number of Gnostic priests who were assumed to have a fairly well developed knowledge of the esoteric. However, this talk was focused I'm giving it a bit of history, both ancient as well as modern with recent advances in our understandings of classical astrology from translations done in the last 25 years or so from the Latin and Greek. The class is aimed at giving a good idea of the breadth of different topics in astrological studies as well as their influence on the western esoteric tradition. This is a good introduction to astrology whose only experience has been sun sign astrology in newspapers or magazines.
    Shortly after this talk was given I became gravely ill and the AJC church was kind enough to put I notice in about might go fund me Account and efforts to raise money for my illness. While I am not fully recovered, I believe the webpage is down now since it was several years ago, and I am doing much better. As of January 2023, I am looking towards reestablishing my weekly forecast soon, please keep an eye on this page.
    Please look up my weekly astrological forecasts based largely on medieval astrology, good for all signs, focusing largely on a positive and negative times throughout the week based on the motion of the moon.
    For those interested, the following websites are especially useful for more traditional medieval and Renaissance astrology:
    astroharp.com/ excellent blog posts from Christopher Lafond, a fellow student of Robert Zoller and a professional Harp player as well as an astrologer.
    www.renaissanceastrology.com/ the website of the excellent astrologer, astrological magician, and lawyer, Christopher Warnock. You will find several fascinating articles as well as the opportunity to buy astrological talismans to help with your situation.
    leelehman.com/joomla15/ the website of Lee Lehman, in my mind, one of the top astrologers in the world, especially for classical astrology. She literally teaches around the world, and has accessible online correspondence courses.
    www.horary.com/ for both books on traditional astrology and online courses.
    arhatmedia.com/ the website for Robert hand, who achieved his PhD by studying the use of astrology in the Italian civil wars. One of the most respected astrologers in the world and well worth buying or reading his material. You can also find lectures by him online on CZcams, as is the case with several of the other listings here.
    Astrological organizations:
    www.astrologers.com- perhaps the oldest astrological organization in the United States, the American Federation of astrologers. The resource for testing your knowledge, Certification, as well as keeping valuable books in print
    www.geocosmic.org/ the National Council for Geocosmic research: a large organization with major chapters in most cities, the offered excellent annual convention and their sister organization offers a study program with certification at various levels.
    www.isarastrology.com/ the international Society for astrological research it is truly international, with groups all over the world, as well as a professional test for certification. Their annual convention typically has most of the top astrologers in the world attending.
    www.afan.org/ the Association for astrological networking helps astrologers with information as well as assistance for legal problems arising from the practice of astrology.
    www.astrologicalassociation.com/ the astrological Association of Great Britain is a venerable organization that puts on
    Conventions and maintains a leading edge journal in astrological practice and research

Also the four elements they found by observation, why did they relate those with the characteristics of signs

    • @alansalmi
      @alansalmi  Před 6 lety +3

      In answer to your first question, this can be found as a practical application of the law of correspondences. As things show in the heavens, They also correspond to things happening on the earth, including with humans. The four elements were then applied to the archetype of the zodiac to fit in with the cosmological theories of the time.

  • @prabhakarankanniath9721
    @prabhakarankanniath9721 Před 5 lety +13

    Your sarcastic claim that the earliest Indian astrology book quotes from Greek astrology is quite ludicrous. The Vedas are much older, which were not really written but passed down orally from generation to generation. Please read this (excerpted from article by Ganeshaspeaks Team)
    :
    Some Astrologers have a misunderstanding that Jyotish is not a part of the Vedas, which is utterly an absurd misunderstanding. Had these Astrologers been well read, and done their homework, probably this air of disbelief would not have risen since last few years. Through this post, I attempt to reinstate the fact that the Jyotish which we are into is indeed a Vedanga Jyotish.
    1) The 4th Mantra of the 8th Sookta of the 10th Kanda of the Atharva Veda talks about the Chakra (Zodiac), with 12 Pradhayas (Spokes or the 12 Parts - Signs ) and 360 Nails ( Degrees of the Zodiac). It also talks of the 3 Nabhies which is nothing but the points of the ellipse (which is the Zodiac that's not an exact circle but Conical. Also, one can read about the ellipse in the Wikipedia for further information). After reading this, can anyone tell that Jyotish was not known to the Ancient Vedic people.
    2) In the 19th Kanda of the Atharva Veda, the 10th Mantra speaks about getting grace from the Moon, the Sun, and from Rahu and Ketu too (If this is not Jyotish then what is it?).
    3) In the Rig veda, the 11th Mantra of the 51st Sookta of the first Mandal, talks about association of Heart Diseases related to the Sun. This Mantra requests the Sun to destroy all Heart troubles to any native (If this is Not Jyotish, then what is it?).
    4) The Mantra 13th from the same Sookta as above talks about "Strength and Prowess" being related to the Sun, and requests the Sun to grant power so that it may enable one to kill his enemies (If this is not Jyotish then what is it?).
    5) The 1st Mantra of the 115th Sookta of the Rigveda speaks of the Sun as the Atma. (Don't we treat the Sun as the same in Jyotish?).
    6) Mantra 89 of 4th Sookta of the 18th Kanda of the Atharvaveda relates the Moon to a Watery core (Don't we treat the Moon as Watery in Jyotish?).
    7) The Bhagavd Gita, Chapter 15 Shloka 13 also talks about the Moon as being Watery and nourishing all Planets - vegetable (Don't we have the same reference in Jyotish too?).
    8) Yajurveda Chapter 15 and Mantra 54 mentions about Budh being related to consciousness (Don't we have Mercury related to Intelligence in Jyotish?).
    9) Yajurveda Chapter 19 Shloka 75 talks about the Planet Venus and its relation to the accumulations of Semen in the body (Don't we have Venus as the Karaka for Semen in Jyotish?)
    The above makes it very evident that Jyotish is very much a part of Indian heritage and also an integral part of the Vedic Lore.

      Yes, this is my understanding, too. An early Indian text is full of Greek terminology, but it is also true that the Vedas are much older and the Lunar Mansions are there, fully realized. Moon astrology developed all on its own in India and yet another Moon astrology developed in China, apart from any western influence. Still, a nicely designed presentation, thanks.

    The mocking Indian accent was completely unnecessary and rude. There is lots of controversy of which culture started astrology, and there are cultural influences from all sides. Indian religious scriptures which are thousands of years old mention astrology. It would be very difficult to pinpoint which culture started this practice. Funnily enough, experts and scholars always seem to say that astrology just happens to come from the culture closest to their own background. Of course, the Westerner says Western civilization created astrology. There are opposing theories which say that Greeks adopted astrology from Indians. And then again, some people say that astrology comes from other cultures. This lecture was interesting for the most part, but clearly biased.

      Wrong, as I said in the lecture, quoting the foremost authority in western astrology, Robert hand, who holds a PhD with a dissertation focusing on astrology in Renaissance Italy, the Vedic astrologers attempt to make their system older, however, the translation of the earliest book is called " the book of Greek astrology". Recent comparative work between Western/Greek astrology and the Vedic astrology seems to show the origin being in the west techniques being taken to the east, probably with Alexander the great: army, and then adapted to Vedic culture.

      Having phD does not make one right... just for your info... their is only one system that came from west to india that is tajaka system and they give credit to west. Others type of astrology like parashara, jaimini, nadi etc are clearly have the sources from respective sages and it is no compilation if you want compilation there are more books which also give credit to respective sages as mentioned. Also it is worth mentioning that these are the sages who put it in writing. Indian education was imparted orally for thousands of years. One can't put a date, one can only speculate. For your info alexandar the great was also not born when these were written. I say this as the scripture of hinduism ramayan and mahabartha clearly state the astrology was an integral part of human life even then. And these scriptures as dated by westernes and agreed upon with everyone are no way close to alexandar's time.
