- Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy attempt to translate phrases from America and Scotland. To be honest, Jessica Chastain didn't have much of a chance with some of these Scottish phrases!
IT 2 is out in theatres now.

James NEEEEDS to read thirst tweets
Yes!
He has read some! There's an interview where he has read thirst tweets with Sarah Paulson, sure it would be amazing to have him do that again!
Naaa...Jessica should. That series is hella sexist, its always men 🙄
R Baz Sorry dude but when a man thirst tweets it just comes off as predatory. It’s a double standard. You just have to deal with it.
@@rbaz9454 you think a woman receiving thirst tweets wouldn't be controversial?
Thank god James doesnt really change his accent to suit americans.
Well he does have a very weak accent so he doesn't need to change it. Someone like Kevin Bridges has to drastically change the way they speak.
@@sulphuric_glue4468 very true, but putting on a more "polite" accent is very doable for kevin too
Honestly I'm from the English midlands and I sometimes struggle with Scots.
He bloody well does by the way. Try and find Drumchapel voices and you'll see
@@thesnudge1 aye of course he's not gunna lay on a full thick Glaswegian accent, that' would be cruel
As a Scot I can attest that James’ description of us Scots rushing to get burnt at the first sign of sunlight is so incredibly accurate. Literally anything above 10 degrees & there is a good chance you will see people out in their garden or cleaning their cars without tops on! 😂
I’ve got a neighbour called “Oily Jim”, and whenever there’s a wee patch of sun, he strips off and layers himself in lotion and just “cooks” himself for the few minutes he’s got
Aye, loads a peely-wally people oot DESPARATELY tryin' tae get a tan!!! lol 🤣🤣🤣
@@garyking1986 Clearly " Jims" are a thing in Scotland too. When I was living in Edinburgh there was an Organic Jim who loved nearby.
It’s literally _the exact_ same in Ireland.
Any chance of sun and the tats are out
I heard Scotland had a wonderful summer this year...it was on a Tuesday this time? 😉
i just realized i was smiling looking at james the whole video
I was smiling and looking at Jessica the whole video.
Disgruntled Artichoke Was about to comment this
so was jessica
Absolutely same
It's that accent man!
oh c'mon 4mins is just too short! I need 20+ mins of james translating scottish slangs please..
hehee
Braw...
@@djackson006 this means its good for anyone wondering
James McAvoy is the king of sexual innuendos 😂
"It can't be that" looks down lmao
NAWW the Scottish people are a bit more to the point then Americans are. They dont beat around the bush like Americans do. My family is like that, but then we are of Scottish and Irish decent.
The Philly Delegation revokes that interviewer's membership and grants McAvoy his Philly pass! #jawn
ShelbyBaby27 I was truly shocked nobody knew that except James. I’m from the opposite side of Pennsylvania and we even say jawn
@@Kat-qr7hv I thought everyone said it 😂
Agreed
Seriously, whoever is from Philly and said 'jawn is not a thing' must be a fucking idiot
I agree with you! Hahaha
Jawn Is Definitely A Thing 😂
You can tell they were from the posh part of Philly. "It's a thing but only used by certain *types*". Yea we know what that mean ;P
@@eon001 facking hell thats outrageous
Ahh, I see the euphemism. Baserad och rödpilla
I ve heard that expression in the Creed movie with Michael B Jordan
Woaaaah some eastern PA stuff
Yes jawn is a philly word! It could mean boy, girl, song, food.. whatever.. mostly used by the hood/urban areas.. I’m not even from philly but if u know u know.
Chastain is sheltered and all her Philly friends are probably from stuck up rich neighborhoods. I've know this and I'm from the UK. There was a whole scene describing the term Jawn in Creed too.
Scarf Ace white folks be trippin & America too sensitive.
Yep, it's basically "that's my joint/thang"
@@eon001 she's not from Philly tho
@@5Waya Mcavoy is from Scotland, and I'm from England and we both knew Jawn was a thing. Chastain needs to get out more.
I’m from northeast Philly and “Jawn” is definitely a thing. Everyone uses it all the time even my teachers used it in school. It’s just a slang word used to basically say a thing and it can also mean the bathroom.
4:12 "really fucking cool ones" Love James' sass at the lady!
How to coin a new Scottish phrase:
1. Get drunk
2. More drunk
3. Have a stroke
Also, put your bank card into a fence and wonder why it's not giving you money.
You need a lot of ‘swally’ for that.
😂
Aye, in Scotland getting so drunk you suffer a stroke is what we term "3rd base" on a night out.
Jawn is 100% a thing! LoL Good on ya James!
Yep I'm the the UK and even I knew that. Chastain has lived a sheltered life and all her Philly friends are probably posh elitists lol.
Good I’m from philly an never realized how much I say Jawn till now
your name made me laugh so hard. i just didn't expect ...
lol
"Jawn" is usually used in the African American community of Philadelphia...James is down! we see you.
Fuck the italians right?
So happy to see McAvoy in a leading role again, he’s such a brilliant actor
i need more videos with these two together, can’t get enough of them 😭
Jessica Chastain is so breathtaking!i can’t take my eyes of her🥰😍
You too, mate, you too
@@Floral_Green Aye but to use another Scottish Phrase..She's All fur Coat but nae Knickers.
@@jamesmaclennan4525 explain
james MacLennan Might use that one when the opportunity presents itself. Thank you, friend
Same but with McAvoy
Next time pair James McAvoy with Lewis Capaldi ~ that would be a blast!
Next time pair James McAvoy with PETER Capaldi ~ that would be 100 times better!
If that person is from "Philly" and doesn't know Jawn.
Well then they ain't from Philly
Jawn's a thing, I've seen Creed.
”I’m from Philly thats not a thing” BULLSHITE!
McAvoy spent a small amount of time in Philly filming Split and Glass and he probably heard one person using the Jawn thing.
He probably heard every person he met say it because it is such an overused slang word in Philly
lol i mean you spelling bullshit like that means you're not from Philly either
Jawn is 100% a thing, in fact it can be ANYTHING. Mad respect to McAvoy filming all those M Night movies.
Jawn is definitely a thing.
The subtitles say “a euphemism for someone’s gentiles” hahahahahahaha
Jawn is 100% a thing in Philly. Its a universal noun. "Anybody got a pen. Let me get that Jawn right there."
All the new James content makes me so happy 💕
Jessica Chastain is precious!!! So charming.
James Mcavoy saying burnt is the funniest thing ever 😂
YES! “Jawn” is absolutely a Philly (& South Jersey) thing! I’m so impressed that James knew about this.
he did film two movies in Philly
Jawn is 100 percent real. It is said EVERY DAY out here. I think those "Philly" people behind the camera are from Chestnut hill and are embarrassed
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For anyone wondering which castle is featured in this video, it is called Eilean Donan (pronounced ee nan dun ann) and is located in the northwest highlands near the isle of Skye, in a town called Dornie. It is the ancestral home of Clan MacRae and Mackenzie and is open parts of the year for tours. It is the most photographed castle in Scotland, having played major parts in motion pictures such as Highlander and 1999's The World is Not Enough (007) and serves as the inspiration for the Disney Pixar movie Brave.
Ty
Btw, Highlander is that one with Liam innit?
I love James McAvoy so much he’s such a sweetheart
Who ever said their from Philly and they don't know what Jawn is are definitely from Amish country or moved to Philly this year
michael reader I am from Amish country and I knew what jawn meant
@@Kat-qr7hv then she moved to Philly yesterday
Weird thing, I used to drive for Uber/Lyft a lot, and most of my passengers were under the age of 30ish and hand just moved to the area less than 2 years ago. And by a lot, I mean a lot. Most came for school and decided to stay. So 1 would assume that a lot of people who live in Philly now may not know what jawn means 😱. I know, it's dreadful to even think about. Jawn is as Philly as cheesesteaks, water (wader, and I do say it like that around relaxed company) ice, and the Liberty Bell! Without out jawn, there is no Philly, there is no Liberty Bell! So rush to your phones and call the number that flashes on the screen when James makes a plea to Philadelphians to back him up!
@@benjaminmullins-spann9999 but they aren't from Philly then. And that is what they said in video
@@Framlii and this is the reason why they may have "claimed" that they're "from" Philly. Na, you not "from" Philly, you just live here now lol.
I am from Philly (not a suburb) and Jawn is definitely a thing here. It's a Noun. The person who said it isn't is probably one of those people who says they're from Philly but is actually from a suburb.
I'm from Norway, and Jawn is definitely a Philadelphia thing!
I'm from the UK, and even I knew this. They said it a bunch of times in Creed, and I listen to Meek Mill and Beanie Siegel :)
Hmm, don't know them.....but that definitely means you know what your talking about.
@@eon001 I see you replying to lots of people telling them you are from the UK and that this is common knowledge and that Jessica Chastain needs to get out more. And my first thought was "This person must listen to rap music." Since jawn is apparently black slang in Philadelphia, America. And your comment here confirms my theory. Just because you happen to be from the UK, and listen to rap music does not mean that Jawn is remotely known about in Scotland, England, or the UK as a whole among the majority of people. It's an obscure slang word from a small community in a city in a state of 50 states, within America, which is thousands of miles away.
You don't speak for every British person.
@@callumcowan7047 lol where did I say I was Scottish? I'm from London ffs. And what does it matter? Just a bit of banter, chill out with the essay.
@@callumcowan7047 Nah editing your comment doesn't change the fact there your still overreacting. lol :P
Charles Xavier is really talented in acting as a Scottish man.
Loved how James said "oh fawwwkk offffff" 😂😂
Jawn
Philly slang for a person, place, or thing (Jawn).
I cant find that jawn anywhere.
Did you see that movie? That jawn was horrible.
Yeah, I got the same jawn from Macy's.
That new Jawn that moved in down the block is HOT!
Gimme that jawn!

Hearing jawn in that Scottish brogue melts my heart
She gets more stunning with age
Scott Crosby she’s looked the same the last 8 years anyway😂
She’s the ugliest freakiest looking red haired monster in the new It movie.
That’s saying a lot.
Rifle Shooter Channel have fun being a virgin
Unicorn Hunter That’s some interesting projection on your part.
Rifle Shooter Channel nah, it’s not an interesting projection. It’s just a throwaway comment and shitty opinion...just like yours
Love u James been a fan since the Narnia Days! So proud I’m from the same country as you! Loved the video 😊🏴
Thank you I'm a Scot in wales uk n not used these lines for years
James McAvoy knows so much about phrases! I feel like this dude went to school for linguistics not acting.
McAvoy: I been preparing my whole life for this!
They spelt 'Genitals' there as Gentiles hahaha
James kills it on all these idiom videos!!
Philly native here: JAWN IS A THING!
I couldn't stop staring at Eilean Donan Castle behind them, Scotland is trully one of the most beautiful places on earth.
I've never got tired of James!
This is awesome. I love learning about other cultures. Thanks Guys
Jawn IS a word here in Philly. It's a noun.
Two of the most charming people in the universe!
MORE JAMES AND JESSICA CONENT PLEASE💕💕
They rip off their mics the second it's done. Consummate press marathon professionals!

I love them both...both beautiful person :)
Everyone of these with Jamsey is great.
jawn is totally a thing in philly. that camera operator is prolly from lancaster or something lol
Can't wait to see Joaquin Phoenix here doing impressions of other people for JOKER press interview.
He’s just the best ❤️
Love them😍😍
I love this jawn!
I lived in the suburbs of Philly my whole life and still heard that term all the time! I live in the city now so of course we hear it more, but yes it's a thing! It really can be used in place of any noun. Makes sense he would have heard it since he filmed a few movies in Philadelphia, actually a local Pie shop near where I used to live catered the set and got to meet him!
Gotta put a hard ‘j’ on that jawn. Not talking about Jean Luc Picard here, McAvoy.
😂😂😂
Two of my favourite actors of the 2000's 👌
James McAvoy: Doin’ ma dinger
Me: 🤤🤤🤤
Jawn is said a lot in Philly. I live in Philadelphia lol so I back this up
I love James McAvoy❤️❤️❤️
JAWN IS DEFINITELY A THING JAMES YOU ARE CORRECT
watching this I couldn't think was this for IT Chapter 2, or for Dark Phoenix
i'm from outside of philly, and jawn is definitely a thing!! a jawn can be a delicious food, a good looking person, and a load of other things! you got it right james lol
James’ accent is so damn adorable aaaaahhh
Hearing James say “jawn” is sooo cute
We absolutely use "jawn" in Philly. I grew up hearing that word used regularly, especially among my peers.
That's so fun. I need more
James the great tim! Brilliant.
WHAT JAMES KNOW ABOUT “JAWN”!?!?!
HE STAAAAYYYYY IN THE HOOD!
James can only learn that word from ONE PLACE!
Jessica, "jawn" is a real thing. Love, Philly.
Love the pic of Eileen Donan castle (Scotland) in the background. I was just there!
2:58 HE HAS NEVER SOUNDED SO SCOTTISH!!!!
As a Scotsman, I found it there’s a place in Florida called Dunedin, that’s Gaelic for Edinburgh
I LOVE THEM
they're in a lot of movies together, you wouldn't know which one they're promoting without seeing the date stamp
Feelsies up the ways and down the ways 🤣🤣
My cousin uses the word jawn all the time, and he's born and raised in southwest Philly.
I live about an hour from philly and i know what “jawn” means 😂
2:58 I like he is so friendly to anyone Ahaha the middle finger and "fuck off" ahahaha
So CHAOTIC I love it
He's got the funniest accent, I can't. This is hilarious :D
What's so funny about a Scottish accent?
A euphemism for someone's "gentiles" haha lmao
The Philly employee is from an affluent background.
I laughed so much at 0:40 😂😂
Jawn is definitely a Philly word. He filmed some of his movies in Philly, so I’m sure he heard it a lot.
She is perfect
Haha, McAvoy representin Philly! #jawnisathing
Jawn is a Philadelphia area term used to refer to almost anything (person, place or thing). That (item) is the jawn!
Animal style burger/fries are amazing
Love that I only know about Jawn from Creed
He is so funnyyyyyy
