    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions. ABOUT US Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

The only glue which binds Brahman and Maya is the "mind" from the most fundemental all encompassing cosmic mind (mahat) down to that of various sentient beings (jiva, deva etc) at various stages and realms with their corresponding limiting conditions

He is so clear in his mind. This 'clearness' comes to the mind occassionally and goes. He cultivated that 'that occassional all sudden clearnesses' and made that permanent. Perhaps, we fail to cultivate those flashes.

@@saisathyam5953 I am not sure how he got to this conclusion. But Arthur Schopenhauer said something similar: To Schopenhauer, the (blind, not godly) will is the substance of the universe. It is our substance as well. Thus, we do not HAVE a will to steward, but we ARE will. In this sense, the whole universe is determined, but the determining force itself is pure will. And that will is free in that it has no boundaries.

consciousness is manifested in life. but the feeling that its not manifested in other things, is precisely what stops us from self realization. That's one of the things we need to overcome to truly realize oneness. Life appears to have more sense organs, but inanimate matter has molecular memory, perhaps even atomic memory. Perhaps it takes longer, for inanimate matter to come to decisions, and react to its environment, but consciousness is outside time Perhaps it needs more space, to process sophisticated details, but consciousness transcends space. And the universe has a lot of space. all those planets and gravitational fields and photons, process a lot of information, even in a newtonian universe. So much more, in a quantum universe. Thank you.

I read the bhagavat Gita, in it Bhagavan says ‘y inferior energies are divided 8 fold, earth, water, wind, fire; space, ego, mind and intellect. Know my higher energies, atman. Know that you are my higher energy. In this further he says I am present in every atom, in every particle. So therefore, God is saying he is everything and everything is within him. We have to realize our true identity as atman/soul/the self. And that we are god. We are made out of the higher energy of god. Everything rests inside of God. He is the cause and the dissolution. He is everything. And because of the infinite nature, he is also nothing. That is my understanding. Once one realizes the truth, there are no questions, the mind settles, and there are only answers. No more worries and anxieties. Only answers. It is my wish all reach its state. 🌺🌸🙏

Revered Maharaj has cleared many misunderstandings about Advaita Vedanta. But, I have a question, that emerges from my Ignorance and misunderstanding, that 'Is the bracelet and gold completely identical'? In terms of substance, obviously, the bracelet is nothing but gold. But, to make the bracelet some forces had to be applied. Heat mend the gold, the goldsmith at first conceptualized the design and then applied mechanical force to make it a bracelet. Some impurities also had to be added. So, when we call the bracelet is nothing but gold, we ignore the forces applied on gold and the imagination of goldsmith.
The same argument may be applicable in the imagery of wood & table, water & wave.
I do humbly pray to Revered Maharaj to clear my doubts and misunderstandings.

That which is always present and never changes it is real and in this case our Self this I am is real it is always present
But this world including our bodymind is always coming going and changes and therefore it is called unreal and when something is unreal in itself and we have experience of it it is called appearance like the mirage water of the desert.
There's never two one alone but because of the appearances of the bodymind and world seems that there's two .

Can Brahman exist, if there is no universe? Vedanta states that the undifferentiated Nirguna Brahman differentiated itself in name and form and seen as the universe. If the universe always existed in some form with no beginning and no end, then Brahma and Maya always exist together. Samkhya Darshana states that Purusha (Brahma in Vedanta) and Prakriti (Maya in Vedanta) always exist together.
Do current scientific discoveries indicating endless cycles of creation, maintenance and destruction, align with Sankhya Darshan or Vedanta Darshan or both?
BTW, Veda Vyas, who wrote Brahma Sutras, the basic text of Vedanta also taught Samkhya Darshan extensively in Mahabharata. In ancient times, these darshanas seem to be intertwined and not antagonistic with each other. Any thoughts on this?

    • @lilyhoch269
      @lilyhoch269 Před 9 měsíci +1

Vedanta states that Brahman is existence itself and not a "thing" which exists or possesses existence as a quality. The appearance of differentiation is just that--an appearance. The universe which appears and the knowers to whom it appears are all just Brahman. All theories, ideas, and beliefs are within Maya and are only relevant within it. Purusha refers to the seer and Prakriti refers to the seen. In sankhya philosophy these are two independent realities, but in vedantic philosophy these are the two aspects of Maya which arise and disappear together as experienced reality.

Ok I will explain it. Your true nature is consciousness you are now also consciousness but this mind and body does not know it. In reality there is only the real you (consciousness). In reality here is only the real you and this world, body and this body''s mind is nothing the real you''s imagination. You imagine this body and world, not only this world but also the dream world. When the real you stop imagining then there is nothing not even blank space(because it is also imagination) and that we all call the deep sleep. But one cannot deny that he/she is not present. Therefore maya is nothing but Brahman''s imagination. You are not what you imagine and you are not what you see in this imagination( waking and dreaming world). You are that which witness this imagination , what you witness is not you just your imagination. You are that when you are not imagining anything(deep sleep) but this world is nothing but your imagination on yourself. Thanks for reading.

With all respect to Swami and Advaita Vedanta, they do not explain what is Maya and how did it came about and for which purpose. Saying that you ask the wrong question is avoiding the subject. Vedanta is very logic, based on common sense and based on our experience. Like we experience consciousness, we also experience Maya. To say that Maya is appearance inside Brahman is a big jump, like the hard problem of consciousness, please show us the proof. Also the concept of God is not clear in this picture, it is not Brahman and is not Maya, so what is it and how did he/it came about? Very confusing.

Gold, as an example, is problematic for me. Gold is still a physical material. It may be acted upon, and have its form changed into a ring, bracelet, etc. But it has attributes even without a form. For instance, it's a type of metal.
Brahman is without attributes. Maya has attributes. From WHERE did attributes arise if Brahman is without them? Even if the attributes are Mithya, where did the idea of the attributes come from if Brahman is Nirguna?
Why bother saying there is Maya at all? Why not just say that the reality we perceive at the physical level and the reality at the sub-atomic level are the same; that only the appearance changes?

If everything is consciousness, what is Non Living Matter??? In the world, we see consciousness as an emergent property from non living matter, not the other way.
If everything is consciuosness then how unconsious matters arise and exist from consciousness??? Your table is not conscious.

In your dream what is the table? Is it really a non sentient piece of wood? Or is it nothing but a projection of your mind 😛

@@oln3678 So far i dont see anything in my dream which i dont experience through my senses both living and nonliving, or conscious and unconscious.
And if ultimate reality is consciousness, what then are abstract objects like mathematical and logical truths, how they are related to consciousness as an ontological category??? ...We experience a mathematical and logical universe space and time, so whynot any mathematical abstract object the ultimate reality, from which both mind and matter, space and time emerge.

@oln3678 Based on my understanding, consciousness has nothing to do with awareness of living beings. Here, consciousness means the trinity of existence, knowledge, and bliss. It is just that living beings can manifest consciousness most accurately. Non-living beings, though inside consciousness, can not manifest it as they lack energy body or pranamaya kosha ( one of the 5 sheaths).

Why does the so-called maya appear in Brahman? And the maya is predominantly pain and suffering.
    It cannot be so simple.
There is something more sinister to it especially because there is immense pain and suffering in this manifestation.
And if this manifestation where life eats life every day every second,, more than 10000 diseases such as cancer, paralysis etc, natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis that kill and maim millions including children is intrinsic to Brahman, then Brahman is sadistic and we are doomed.

When questioned along these lines I've often read of Ramana Maharshi pointing to the example of deep sleep to draw attention to the fact that the primal state is one of peace and bliss. You can't recall your deep sleep, but you reflect on it and none of the problems of the waking world appeared to you then. What changes between then and the waking state is the knowledge of the ego and all of its associated fabrications. The things you see in the world are less real than you are because they depend on you for their existence. These cannot touch the real you, you simply appropriate them out of primordial ignorance and entangle them with the appearance of a separate self which appears to be the knower of the world. In reality, Brahman is existence consciousness bliss alone, shining forth by its nature. The separate you which you believe yourself to be sees problems in the world of appearance and asks why Brahman allows the suffering it sees. But Brahman sees no suffering and knows no suffering, because that which appears only seems to do so due to ignorance. Does suffering appear? Yes, and therefore it is neither real nor unreal. Know it for what it is though, as an appearance in your reality and said suffering cannot touch you. It will only touch the little body mind you currently believe yourself to be, but knowing it as false, it is transcended. Shining forth as the reality, you can then show the way for all still laboring under delusion. Prior to realization though, know that all suffering is as real as you are and that alleviating it will help you realize
