    Just to explain the public transportation in Cph:
    A single ticket for a standard city trip costs 24kr and can be bought at ticket machines around the stations (also underground!)
    Copenhagen is divided into fare zones, but if you don't have a zone map, just plot in your desired destination, and the machine will tell you the price :)
    All forms of public transportation in Copenhagen uses the same tickets, so if you're going by metro and then local train and afterwards a bus, you still only need that one ticket from your starting point to you final destination.
    This is by far the most expensive way of using public transportation in CPH as there are a lot of discounts to get if you are planning to use it more than just a few times.
    For most travelers I would recommend downloading an app called DOT-Mobilbilletter where you can buy single tickets, 10-times tickets and some day passes for the entire CPH-metro area which should be considered if you're planning a daytrip to either Elsinore or Frederiksborg Castle (or both)
    The app is translated into English and is quite easy to navigate (at least I think so) :)
    The 10trips are 10 two zone trips, which costs 150kr. Actually you get a stock of 20 zones to spend freely, so it is still possible to use your 10trip ticket for a 3zones trip. But then you'll end up with only 9 trips.
    If you're planning to do a lot of 3, 4 or 5 zone trips you should definitely get a travel card :)
    The cheapest way of traveling in Copenhagen though is to get a travel card. As a tourist you can only get these at the Central station and at Nørreport station. You load a desired amount of money to your card account, and can then use it until you run out. Reloading you card can be done at most stations (just ask some locals). When you're traveling with the travel card you need to check in at the station before boarding the train and check out when you've reached your destination. You need to check out each time you change to a new kind of transportation. But don't worry, you won't be charged double for that reason. Do remember to check out! If you don't you'll be charged a fee of 10€.
    The price is almost always cheapest with the travel card. A standard 2zone single ticket is between 12-15kr with the travel card and if you're traveling to Elsinore or Roskilde the differences between the two gets even greater!
    I know the public transportation system here is very difficult and not very tourist friendly! It's also quite expensive, so there's so much money to save!
    In all honesty I would just rent a bike really 😂

      Gabriel Traveler I think the person you met in the metro station tried to tell you where to get a travel card :)
      The red ticket machines are from the national railway company, which also operates the Copenhagen suburban trains. You can also buy tickets to southern Sweden or Aarhus at these machines :) if you're at a metro station the ticket machines are grey, and you can only buy tickets to the Copenhagen traffic area

    • @drdewott9154
      @drdewott9154 Před 7 lety +1

      Technically about the travel card you need to check in when starting your travel and check in again when you change bus or train Line and check out when your travel is over. It's a little complicated in the beginning but that's How it works.

Copenhagen is totally rock'n roll and a very "newbie to foreign travel" friendly. DO NOT get a car, get a very cheap rental bike and pretend to be a groovy European. :-)

    It is funny to watch these videos about Copenhagen (I live 3 km from the city center). It is very different to see other people’s perception of the city and the bikes. The bikes always seem to surprise people.
    The way to pronounce Copenhagen is more like copenheygen, the way you say it, it sounds German. Danes don’t have great history with Germans. ;) haha. But I’m glad you enjoyed the city.

    Something tells me that you won't be in Copenhagen long with those prices. But, it looks like a beautiful city. Prices are in line with the touristy areas of Southern California. I think after getting ahold of a map in a new country you/we need to get ahold of a local resident and find out where to eat and buy stuff...like any other country. 😉

    A very nice and informative video. I live just 10 minutes away from the Metro station you visit in the video (Nørreport station) and 39 kr for a pint of beer is only common in the city center. Jump on bus 5C heading north towards Husum Torv or Herlev Hospital and jump off at Nørrebros Runddel or a stop later at Stefansgade (takes approx. 10-15 minutes by bus depending on the traffic). In this area you'll find a lot of local bodegas and bars where you can buy beers for 15 kroners or even less. But be aware Danes drink a lot :)

    It seems so pricey though! We did an airbnb in Copenhagen and it worked out super cheap - like £29 per night for two of us I think :)

    Well, a danish hostel is usually a bit overprice (taking advantage of turists even though the prices arnt robbery). If you buy Beer at the Netto (discount) shop you visited you could easily get a 6x pack beer can pack (2 litres) for $10 if its a "nice brand" or half that if its just their own beer label. Also if you stay clear of the usual turist trap "fine restaurants" that normal people dont visit either then you can easily find the usual chinese, thai, pizza, barbecue, fryup or similar cheapo shop with more human prices. That being said food prices is at a all time high in Denmark.

The DanHostels and Wakeup Hostels are other good options, maybe better in some respects.

    I love how some people pronounce Copenhagen ''Copenharkken'' to sound fancy and linguistically competent. Truth is Copenhagen is gibberish, it doesn't mean anything in Danish, there is no right way to pronounce it, and if pronounced with Danish vowels it would sound drastically different. People figured the city's Danish name ''København'', which translates roughly into ''tradesman's harbour'', would be tricky to pronounce, hence Copenhagen. Us Danes use the common pronounciation.

      @Mr Mr I'd agree with Kristian Brandts translation as it's quite spot on. At times when translating you'll encounter words that can't be directly translated because of different grammatical rules and/or connotations.
      I assume you're danish and you just have to understand that København doesn't mean Køb-en-havn. The name København comes from the old danish word Køpmannæhafn from the middle ages but have evolved with the language. There is a few different interpretations of the name but the most believed one is Købmændenes havn which would translates into... you guessed it - Tradesmen Harbour.

The Canon Powershot doesn't seem as clear and also it's super sensitive to wind noise. The one advantage with it seems to be that it's better in low lighting. What do you think, did you prefer the Iconntechs or Canon? (I used the Canon in all the videos in Oslo.)

      Its much better in low lighting, thats normal. Ofc the canon has no stabilization but i think its a step up from an action cam. Also, operating a "normal" camera requires a tiny bit more skill. You've been used to handling an action cam for quite a while now, you havent used your olympus since ...i cannot even remember :))... Point being : if you wanna stick to what you are doing now, the iconntechs its more than enough, but since you already bought a new camera you can start playing with it, finding different shots, experimenting with it :)

      I kind of wished I'd splurged and gotten the GX7 which was in the store where I bought the Canon. But it was $700 instead of $200....and also this was at a store in Las Vegas that they don't have where I'm from, so I was concerned if I had any problems with it about returning it. But I'll definitely upgrade to a really good vlogging camera sometime this year. I'll have to play around with the Canon some more and try out the different settings. I think it does have some stabilization, that seemed to be the case with some of the settings.

      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Před 7 lety

      Also the Iconntechs camera is a lot smaller, more discrete and easier to hold. It barely looks like a camera, just a tiny little piece of plastic. But the Canon has zoom capability, whereas I can't zoom in with my other two cameras. I really need a camera with all the best features of my three cameras, combined into one.

      it is fine if you use a local credit card but using a foreign credit card we get hammered by one time fees so cash is king for travelers

      Olivier L., exactly! Using cash is best for travelers. I only use my card for the occasional convenience. It's not a problem. You can use cash to get transport tickets in the 7 Eleven above Nørreport or go to the train station.
