I've watched more than a dozen videos about the Erie & Wellend canals,I didn't know wether smoke signals ,homeing pigeons or Morse code had to be used to contact the lockmaster, this is the first one that explains it.Thank you very much.

I’m from Rome, NY. It’s where the Erie Canal work was first started! Also there’s a Fort, Stanwix, that was rebuilt for the Bicentennial 1976! I was 16 and it was amazing!

Would love to sail this Erie Canal - I live a short walk from the Leeds Liverpool Canal in the British Isles - Cannot be much different - Our Canal did the same job for our industry in 1800s

I live here in wa. state and the columbia is used quite alot for grain and timber transport.Theres quite a large number of grain elevators on the river.Cargill and Midco. own most and ship oversea,s from here to japan, egypt, ect. Each dam on the columbia has locks to allow barge passage. The dams on the lower part have raise and lower the barges up to 75 feet. Also the as many wind turbines that they have set up here in the northwest they are still unable to rely on them for all the wind generation.

Keep in mind that the pilgrims just discovered the canal and it took them 8 year to clear 364 miles . In perspective with today's technology we could not do it now...

  • @darlaspafford-davis7087
