I personally think his 'tone' in the rapping part and feeling mechanic was deliberate and planned. He was going through the motions with his therapy, spinning his wheels and going nowhere. Juxtapose that with the massive feeling during the heavy parts with the cleans and breakdowns make this song very impactful and memorable. Those mechanic rapping parts was the perfect buildup for the chorus and breakdown. My 2 cents.
    Much ❤ from 🦬

Yeah, I was losing my shit. because I was sitting there thinking the same thing and I was wishing he would get it!!!!

I was thinking the same exact thing. I suppose if someone was never in that position before like Ronnie was or anyone else who has been, it’s harder to pick up on it. So I’m not gonna get too mad at the “critique” because of that. People do often assume, though, if you’re singing or writing a song regarding depression or mental illness, it always has to be super emotional in the vocal department. But sometimes people get to a point where they can feel numb to the cycle…empty, hollow; just nothing. And I think Ronnie portrayed that very well.

Everything Ronnie does is deliberate, including his tone of voice. ♥️

Ronnie wrote this song when he was depressed. He went into the studio and deliberately had like no energy in his voice. Crazy thing is, this song blew up and it took him out of his depression.

Ronnie is in his own category and has already proven he can do it all. Everything he does is for a reason.

Lol the guy on the left probably wasn't paying attention to any of the lyrics. This song doesn't need "swag". It's about depression and Ronnie being completely consumed by that dreadful feeling. He's not going to through swag when he feels like shit. It just wouldn't fit the song.
The last song had "swag" because it was more of a song about Ronnie being angry and calling out all his haters. This one is about Ronnie going through mental illness and feeling like shit all day and then popping off at the end because he couldn't take it no more. That's why he has a more talking tone in his voice in this song.

I agree with alot of the other comments. I think the monotone rapping delivery was on purpose to convey the lyric content of battling depression. I also agree that whether you like the band or not and look at it for the song quality, it is a great song. That's all lol. Cheers and looking forward to more reactions.

Its depression dude. If youve ever experienced it then you know you feel dead inside and he conveyed the emotions perfectly. If it didnt work then why was it the #1 song for over a year

Everything they have released since popular monster is absolute gold. Was not a fan of their earlier emo tripe but the newer stuff is outstanding. Ronnie is one talented MF

Im fairly new to this band, but Ronnie is a whole new breed of modern metal vocalist. His inclusion of rap style with his main genre of music, his vocal range, the depth and meaning of the lyrics is on a wholenother level.

I love this song. And I agree on the tone, but the whole point of the song is dealing with depression and suicidal haze… and how you get the hell out of that. It fits. Freakin love this song though. It goes on loud in the car lol. Thanks for covering it! ❤

Kind of reminded me of the songs you could hear in the "Smackdown vs. Raw" video games in the 2000s.

When you go through the same BS everyday and you have to repeat yourself about how you are feeling to counselors, doctors, etc you are monotone and it is repetitive so if you don't experience that you won't get it. I know all about it. U feel nothing repeating the same thing, but when you're tired of it, it builds frustration and never getting anywhere to feeling better is extremely overwhelming and trust me I have blown my top several times, so there are quite a few of us 'Popular Monsters ' out here.

His tone is almost like he was medicated for depression? Trying to suppress the inner monster? Ronnie does everything on purpose.

I'm honestly surprised you guys haven't heard this song before now. I wasn't even aware of them when this song came out, but it got played a LOT and was hard to avoid. It's also been reacted to by about a million reaction channels. It's a pretty catchy song, and I agree that the chorus and the heavy section at the end are the best parts. It'll be interesting to see the comments since I've noticed the fanbase can be a bit overzealous when there is any perceived slight against their lord and savior Ronnie.

Wow, I feel every bit of emotion throughout this song so I disagree, but to each his own. I think the "emotionless tone" portrays the emptiness he feels inside.

You're missing the mark...its art, well designed and structured...its deliberate...a flat effect is part of the story..ohh he can rap, the song isn't designed to prove that....

    • @APREACTS
      @APREACTS  Před rokem

You are missing the mark. Art is subjective to those who consume it. There are no rights or wrongs or even good or bad, just what you like and what you don’t. Understanding that subjectivity of the art and art consumer play a role in its appreciation is key to the evolution of art itself.
