  • We've been using various battery cameras for years to keep tabs on what's going on outside our RV when we can't see for ourselves. Seven months ago we opted to shift everything we're utilizing over to the Wyze ecosystem, both inside and outside for dependability, quality and price. Sounds like a great product. We full time and don’t have a dog and stay in federal, state, and private campgrounds. We never felt the need for a system like this but the times are changing so I’ll keep this in mind.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před rokem

      KJ, we admittedly don't usually use them in campgrounds, either. Doing so requires really narrowing down the detection range so that you don't get alerted to every vehicle driving past, or every time your neighbor walks out to check their electrical post. We therefore see the greatest benefit for boondocking. And sometimes you pick up something fun, like the deer walking behind our trailer in this video, or in the case of our friend Homie At Large's Wyze cameras, even a young moose in camp overnight.

    In December, I tried both Wyze and Blink, Blink was absolute garbage. Blink uses non rechargeable batteries and had no advanced artificial intelligence functions in their app. I was happy with the Wyze setup so instead I installed it at my brothers' house and we are happy with Wyze. Ultimately, I got the Eufy cameras for myself because they had the best dual camera doorbell system that could completely monitor all the mail and packages that arrive at my home from nearly every angle; Eufy also has 2K and 4K resolution that actually works good unlike the expensive Arlo Cams. Lastly, all my Eufy cameras were 50% off during the holidays and Eufy requires no annual or monthly subscriptions without losing any advanced app functions. Wyze has great affordable cameras and if they had the dual camera doorbell which would completely allow me to focus on the packages left on my front door's floor, I would probably have used them in my home. You made a Wyze choice Mark, great informative video!

      Thank you Ray! Appreciate your feedback, especially on the Eufy cameras. Some have strayed away from Eufy due to the recent security vulnerabilities, but virtually all security camera brandss have had breaches at some level at one time or another.

      Also Ray, take a peek at the new Wyze Cam Pan v3 that was released last week. It's now waterproof in two versions that can be stacked atop one another for a dual view - wide and zoomed in. We haven't yet tried that one ourselves, however.

      @@GrandAdventure I installed the wyze cam pan v3 at my brother's house this past Sunday and it works great for only $40. However, I did not like how targets or people can see that the camera moves and is aimed at them so I installed it in the basement instead of outside in order to monitor the boiler, furnace, pluming leaks or potential hiding intruders. It would be nice if they somehow encased this paning camera in a non see through plastic glass so that my brothers neighbors don't think that he is some sort stalker, lol. Anyway, they also have the wyze cam V3 pro in 2K with built in spotlight available for under $50 on Wyze's website. If that becomes available on Amazon before January 31, I will return/replace all the V3 cameras that I have installed and switch it with the new V3 pros.

    We have the blink system on our camper and I’ve been more than happy with it. Especially since the camper stays at my neighbors while at home. I have noticed more parasitic draw in the winter with my blink hub and my cellular router this winter. I’m adding a 3rd lithium battery and couple new disconnect switches to better control exactly what can draw power in these winter months when my little 300 watt solar can’t keep up

    Thanks for this review. I'm glad to see now that it's the "off-season" that you are back to doing some product reviews because you always to do a good, thorough job. I've been looking at Wyze recently because so many of the other cameras on Amazon, etc. are a hit-or-miss hodgepodge. My initial investigation of Wyze, prior to your video, is that their battery models lack some of the important features of their newest 3.0 wired cameras...and not surprisingly I don't want to fuss with wires for power. However, your video sounds like the previous 2.0 battery-powered camera(s) are good enough. My only remaining issue is whether Wyze cameras deliver enough features WITHOUT the monthly subscription. As a non-fulltimer, monthly subscriptions rarely make sense financially unless they're for things that can also be used when I'm not on the road.
    Also, I read somewhere else that the Wyze cameras have a maximum Mini SD card capacity of 32GBs...is that correct?? If so, that's really surprising (and kind of antiquated) in today's world of MUCH larger Mini SD card capacities. Keep the great reviews coming!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před rokem

      I would have to look up the maximum SD card capacity, as I don't know what off the top of my head. But even if that's true, all my incidents are going into the cloud anyway. And if 15 second clip of a momentary AI trigger isn't going to take up much storage space. It's not like they are recording non-stop. And thank you for your kind words!

    We used Wyze at our tiny house before we hit the road and really loved them. At that time they did not really have outdoor options so we ended up with Ring and they have worked well for us. But I see now that they have really upgraded the Wyze system and who knows we might just make a change. Plus the subscription for wyze is way cheaper per year than ring. Thanks Marc- Kyle

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před rokem

      Our pleasure, bud. On top of that Wyze just released a new subscription option for unlimited cameras, currently discounted to $7.99/month for the first year, down from $9.99/month. I've wanted to add one or two more outdoor cams, so this now gives me an excuse.

    Hey Marc, I love these cameras for RV use. I am thinking of getting the indoor one that pans to keep and eye on the dog when we get another one as we lost scrappy recently. Larry

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před rokem

      Oh no!! Larry, I'm so sorry for both of you to hear that Scrappy has passed on. That's never, ever easy. I've always said that one crime of nature is that we get so little time with our canine companions.
      Wyze last week launched v3 of its Cam Pan. It's now waterproof, although I wouldn't use them outdoors on an RV as they're not battery cams and therefore require a power wire. However, for an indoor dog cam application I like the fact that the new ones can tilt downward 180 degrees.

    Wonder how well it would work for a backup camera? I have one on my MH but the lens is foggy so can't see through it. Wouldn't take much to mount it within arms reach of the ladder, then put it on when I am ready to back up.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před rokem

      You could do it Charlotte. It would work, but you'd have to remove it for traveling down the road. I'd look more closely at Haloview's wireless backup cameras instead, for they're dedicated to that purpose and cost a fraction of those from Furrion.

    Great video! I am curious why you would use a camera and door bell on the same side of the RV?

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před rokem

      Those two cameras have very different fields of view. The doorbell cam is a fixed fisheye lens, whereas we can aim the other camera where we want. Additionally, the doorbell cam stays on the trailer full-time, including while traveling so there's nothing to set up or put away, whereas we only break out the other camera when we're boondocking.

    Part-time RV'r. Starting to boondock more and concerned about security. I will not be investing in Starlink, so I'm wondering what setup works best in case I have no Internet connection? I will have active WiFi at all times, but no cell service means no Internet. My home Eufy system, Blink and every other system I've checked out so far is virtually useless without Internet. If my phone app, the base station and cameras are connected to my local WiFi, and I've got local sim recording enabled, why does the base station have to talk to a server somewhere to before I get an alert and recording begins? Is this true with this Wyze system? The travel mode sounds promising. I'll research that but would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  Před 11 měsíci

      @@deborahann5552yes you do, only for the outdoor cameras. It comes only with a 120V AC adapter, which we use as we're using our inverter off our batteries when we're not on shore power. However, this has an inherent inefficiency by inverting the power to DC, then converting back to AC.
      It's important to note that the base station's power input is actually 12V DC. So the power adapter is actually adding a third stage to this inefficiency, inverting again back to DC. If you're not on an inverter, you could easily remove the AC plug from the power cable to the base station and hardwire it directly into your 12V system, or replace it with a plug that would interface directly with your 12V power. That would not only eliminate all of the inefficiency, but also allow you to run the base station directly off of your RV's 12V batteries.
