Today at Alf's Mustang Garage, we are back to rebuilding this 289 Ford small block Windsor. In this video we demonstrate how we prep our engine blocks for paint and then paint them. Special thanks @UncleTonysGarage for an outstand demonstration of how to prep and paint engine blocks.
The book I recommend you buy for your build. You will not get all the information there is to know from watching these videos. This book will help guide you through everything. www.npdlink.co...

It's amazing how much better it flows out using a brush. It also lasts longer.👍
Ya it's crazy, plus I can control it better too.
Wow. Looks AWSOME brushed on
I definitely like brushing it on. Easier to control.
I like seeing the brushes come out. not every paint job needs a spray rig. ^~^ just ask anyone whose restored a tractor.
Awesome thank you!
I was in Ag mechanics in high school and I brush painted an Allis Chalmers engine. The right paint will flow off a brush and level to a sprayed on look.
Awesome, my first car was a 66’ mustang with a 289. Very good engine😊
Very cool! My first car was also a 66 Mustang with a 289.
Glad I saw this post. I just tested out Eastwood Hemi orange on my build. I’m use to spraying the paint. But, I used a brush this go around. Glad I saw you mix the catalyst with the paint, and still brush it on. I was curious about the pot life. I know see you can brush it on even mixed with the Catalyst
Oh ya it goes on pretty smooth and is easy to control.
Great paint. I had a '67 Ranchero that had the 289 in it.
Very cool! Great engines!
My first car was a 67 Cougar with a 289.
Oh very cool! We are doing a couple of those right now!
Looks good!
Thank you
You went to all the trouble of what looks like a complete rebuild, and it looks like you used mild steel welsh plugs, or were they stainless?
Question, how do you guys prep it for paint? Sandblasting to clean it? And after painting it, does it needs any sort od clean on top of paint? Thanks you guys video help me get some ideas on how to do mine!

Here is the full length of this video. Shows how to prep the block.
I have a 65 Ford mustang and a 67 mercury cougar, im looking for motors for them
That paint is coming off after a year of running it From cold to hot back to cold. There's steps to keeping your engine from peeling. They didn't show the steps, My 302 block which feature 289 HIPO heads has been painted since April of 1989 it's 2024 and there's know peeling that's longer then 30 years.
Does the brushed on paint last longer than sprayed on and do better with heat, oil, etc ?
You put the Welsh plugs in after you paint the block.
Dry oil filter?
What do you mean?
Ford dudes. Weirdos but respect
Primer?
Eastwood paint is direct to metal.
Technically that's not the right color, 66 was darker.
Who cares.....
@bigloads3600 hundreds of thousands of people care. If your going thru all the time to RESTORE something why fuck it up and make it worthless with the wrong color....
@mustangdemon87 worthless because of the engine color, lmao 🤣 😂
@bigloads3600 I mean if you eat to loss a fee grand if not more on a sale.over paint that's on you. People pay BIG bucks for numbers matching PROPER restorations. Been in business more then 12 years now myself.
