11:05 - PDF annotations is really a killer feature when you're on a training and lecture material is delivered in this form. Thanks to this you can create best ever notes. Tested in my last 5 classes, everybody liked notes I created in this way. Cheers!
Only one thing missing to make it the best : Pinch to Zoom. Excellent video. Oh, and if you click on the color wheel in the Pen toolbar you can change from P3 to sR GB color profile.
Wow, continuing to watch what you’re doing with Apple Notes and getting more and more inspired to move away from OneNote after years of usage. Notes is much more eco-system friendly to be sure as I’m almost entirely in the “Apple orchard”.
I use Notability for handwritten notes and Notion for typed notes. Although I don’t think I’ll abandon them for Apple Notes, I may start using Apple Notes to make quick notes in a pinch.
I have most of the big note Apps but if I need to just take some notes, Apple Notes is my go to 100%. I don’t have time for “pretty” in a meeting or out on site to jot things down. I need quick. Notes is perfect. It’s pen and paper on the move. I can come back to them later when I have time, find everything, and do whatever I need with my scribbles and such. If you are studying for school/class and have hours , the others are prime. Thanks! Great tips and tricks.
Apple Notes has turned into a very decent note application. I was an early adopter of Evernote as a source for my "Second Brain" long before Tiago wrong his book on the subject but disliked Evernote's ability to see all my notes (needed for their search capability). Apple Notes could work great (and even has a fantastic Evernote import), but I have one issue others should be aware of. Getting your notes out. Yes, you can export any note as a pdf. But only 1 note at a time. There is no option I can find to do a bulk export so if you end up with 1000's of notes, it would be essentially impossible to ever get them out of Apple notes. I don't see any way to use Shortcuts. "Maybe" there is a way with Applescript on a mac but I'm not sure.
I use Apple Notes for learning. So my trainer sends training videos and notes to me and I can have them all in one note for each lesson. Thanks for showing even more I can do with this
Another great vid Tom! I love how you present just the useful information and no irrelevant, time-wasting fluff like so many other You Tubers. Keep up the great work (and maybe zoom in on some of that tiny text sometimes) 😊
Thanks for your review I was looking for a digital notepad to keep all my notes together and was considering Moleskin or ReMarkable yet this review showed clearly that that the regular notes within the iPad and iPhone suits this job just perfectly compared.
Great Video. - Really comes to my mind, that this is now the ideal general Inbox tool to collect ALL Items that hit me since now it supports All formats … text, handwriting, photos of Handwriting and Text, websites, voice … the thing would be how to process this Inbox to the more permanant information stores that we all have - maybe siri shortcut processing is the way to go …
Thanks Tom! I got an Ipad from my kids for christmas and I ahven't really been using it as much as I wanted to, didn't occur to me to take notes on it but I love the idea of being able to search, definitely need to take a closer look now!
Thank you for this detailed video! Im trying to decide whether to buy the iPad or the Remarkable and this video helped clear a lot of questions for me.
Great video. You master the App! Outstanding improvements are coming with new iOS. With the newly introduced changes in Apple Notes and Reminders, I do not see the need of using other Apps like Evernote. Integration among Mac, iPhone and iPad supposes a great advance for those of us that are in the Apple ecosystems.
Thanks for this great feedback! We are also excited to see what else we can expect in the next Updates coming to Apple Notes! One of the advantages of using Evernote is that we can scan directly to Evernote using standalone cloud scanners. That's something really missing in Apple Notes. Another thing would be lack of integration with other tools and automations. If you don't need those features, then Apple Notes is great, if you need those features, then you are out of luck for now. And that's what ICOR is all about. Helping people identifying what they REALLY need to improve their overall Productivity System. :) It seems you found your perfect setup already, Jose?!
There is one drawback of scanning documents. The OCR is not saved inside the PDF so when you export or share the document, it is no longer searchable. I keep using Scanner Pro because of this.
Guten tag! Thank you for this video, Tom. About 3 years ago, I switched from Apple Notes to Evernote for what I thought were better features at the time. Then, maybe 6 months ago, I saw a video from someone who suggested how powerful Apple Notes had become, so I've been considering a switch back to Apple Notes. While Evernote is a great app, I don't think its cost is worth it for me. This video, however, has pushed me over the edge and really convinced me that Apple Notes is far superior for my Apple connected lifestyle. Vielen Dank! Tschüss.
I really like the app. My biggest issue with Apple Notes is it has no bi directional linking, and even creating links to notes for external applications is a very tedious process (such as linking a note to a task or project in your task manager). Craft, Evernote, and many other note taking apps does this well, I wish Apple Notes would bring this too.
I love craft so much. if I’m just handwriting meeting notes or drawing diagrams I use apple notes but anything else goes straight to craft. I have the business version with my domain linked. I create my client proposals in craft and send the link and it tends to blow prospects away with the design features, modular views via collapsed blocks, and the cross-block hyperlinks. sooooooo good.
@@AJFaithFitness I’ve decided to stick with obsidian, I read something the other day saying that the tools matter less than consistency and I agree with it. In the end what we want is to build knowledge and not to use a tool :)
Professor Tom has certainly provided many useful videos. Being a senior citizen, and a IPad Pro owner, I always look for constructive ways to use my iPad effectively. I use GoodNotes as my main app for taking notes. Thank you Tom. Would you please share, maybe in a video, useful ways for seniors to use our iPads? Many of us are no longer students so using the iPad for taking class notes isn’t practical. I would be willing to help with providing ways I currently use my IPad. There just has to be more. Thank you.
As a senior, I use my iPad for: a coaster. I close it up and put my whisky glass on it. As a place holder: I put it between the read and unread books in my book shelf, as a shield, so infant grandson's fries missiles don't soil my glasses, as a privacy screen when I'm out and there's no men's room...
I would like to know how to use charts with voice control. How do you move through the chart /spreadsheet formatting in apple notes iPhone? For example what voice command can you use in place of the “next” button to move between fields?
Another great vid! I am a senior still in the workplace. Believe it or not I am just now moving from a Franklin Planner to the digital world. I almost bought a Remarklable2 but asked someone that uses one if he would buy it again. He said no, he would get an iPad. After looking at some of your videos its easy to see why.
I watched this again and originally missed that I can use smart folders to show unchecked lists. Very powerful. The only advantage that evernote has on this is the ability to have a master list of all unchecked tasks without having to goto the note. Apple could do better by integrating reminders as the check list and show all checklists in the Reminders app.
Holy crap, so many features explained so fast my brain is sore. I started using Apple Notes about 3 years ago. I was looking for a basic checklist task manager for marketing plans. Every year the program gets better for free. Your video just blew me away. I realize I Porsche in my hand but was driving it like a farm tractor. Great video!

Coole Sache, Tom! Mal schauen, was am besten passt. Vielen Dank für das Video!
Love your content, would appreciate a true Apple Notes, vs GoodNotes vs notability video 2022/3 version. I am trying to decide between apple notes and good notes...would lean on your expertise.
Bravo Tom! As usual you have cut to the chase - it is increasingly evident that many thought leaders are moving to Apple Notes. Apple is on a trajectory to make notes (and future Freeform) Stellar - As a long time EN power user - I recently made the move and find that my work flow has become frictionless - I had become a habitual hoarder with EN because of all the automation available. I now use read later or watch later apps for non-reference materials - as far as emails to notes I create a link for the email or a pdf - a more elegant solution. drag and drop is too cool- well done for your usual passionate and informative delivery 🎉
Tom - We have recently launched a major version of our app Noteshelf 3 with AI-assisted note-taking features that allow users to generate notes in handwriting and many more useful features.
Most informative and interesting. As a casual but addicted user of Notes I do wish there was a way of “slowing down” such a presentation to allow me to more easily assimilate and appreciate each feature!! A much more mundane question if you will allow me:- I use my Apple pencil extensively but often, I’m sorry to say, as a stylus. Is there a way I can instantly switch back to the full screen keyboard while still holding the pencil or placing it back on it’s magnetic mount?
I disagree because the speed is a quality indicator for me. Tom is not boring me with no-value Blabla. He goes straight to the point and this is so much better than the CZcamsrs who waste my time by stretching their insights over long time. But simple CZcams functions allow to re-listen at each point of interest as often as I want.
The features you explained make Apples notes a great App. Now just before a give my feedback, I am a Apple supporter, since 2004. I now have many Apple products, I'm well entrenched into the Apple ecosystem. Apple Notes is the most unstable Apple App I have ever experienced. I have lost notes, refresh can be very slow, handwritten notes overlay themselves to other hand written notes, no ability to zoom in or out, slide in notes have a different hand written size when viewed full screen. I'm glad you mentioned you only use Apple note as a quick note taker, you then transfer notes to a different App. This is the only way I would advise anyone to use Apple notes. I also use Notability and Nebo. I'm writing this on Nebo in a side in window, similar to Apple Notes. Any issue, that are few and far between, are dealt with quickly, when reported to Notability & Nebo, not so with Apple Notes. Giving feedback is difficult and you'd be very lucky if you got a response, I never have. If I did not know better I would say Apple notes is not written by Apple! Its instability is very unlike Apple.
I mostly use Obsidian for my note-taking, but I may consider this app for my temporary notes (that's a good idea, btw). The main issue I have, at the moment, is that I only have an iPad, in terms of Apple devices!
I use both Obsidian and Apple Notes. Obsidian is for my longer-form, deep writing and work-related writing. Apple Notes is basically my digital filing cabinet. I use apple notes to save clippings from articles, links to things, jot down ideas, etc. it’s become kind of my catch-all filing cabinet and it works great. apple notes is very user friendly and has fantastic search functionality. And because I use apple reminders, it plays well with that too.
I currently use evernote and one of their best features to meis that they have a good tool for scanning and capturing things I think the app is called scannable, but apple notes seems like a much better tool for capturing information with all of the features you just mentioned. I think my favorite feature that you covered was the smart folders its definitely an amazing feature I will be trying in the near future.
If you long press on the Notes app you’ll get a menu that pops up and you can select scan to import documents into Notes. You can even use it to scan whiteboards. Google and Microsoft Lens’ also do this very well. Hope this helps.
I envy the users whose mother tongue is among the languages that can use Scribble in Apple Notes + other apps on iPad. I’ve got the Apple Pencil and that would help me taking down the minutes of various meetings I go to - if the language I use wasn’t Danish. It’s taking Apple forever to support Scribble in written languages with many accents - such as Polish and the Nordic languages. Why is that? I realise that the programming was simpler for Graffiti on Palm devices - but it certainly was a far speedier affair - it didn’t take years before someone had written a hack for Palm OS that enabled users to write accented characters! Thanks for reading my rant! 😂 I don’t suppose anyone has heard of a way to write in Danish or Swedish or Norwegian - or Polish, for that matter - using Scribble?
I have large notes and always or almost always I open a note it start's on top. I have large notes and is annoying always to scroll down at the end of the notes. It's possible to change it?
Apple Notes is very nice but major issue with it is scaling.. It streches the page to the width of the app. If you take notes in landscape mode, it shrinks in portrait mode vs. Also as there is no Windows software, you have to use iCloud web. But on iCloud web the note is processed as picture and the longer the note is, the smaller it is on web, which is really unfortunate.. That's why I use OneNote.. It is a little slow wrt Apple Notes but has no problem with all the aspects I mentioned here..
Ik kijk graag naar je CZcams filmpjes ik vind ze heel interessant. Alleen kan je meer tijd nemen voor de uitleg. Het lijkt wel of je met de trein mee moet.
We got even more great features for Apple Notes on iOS 16. The best I like: • Ink Pen in Handwritten Notes • You can choose to straighten handwritten text (doesn’t always work perfectly) • Everything’s organised by date by default • Some features from Markup such as text boxes and shapes come to handwritten notes • Apple Notes support custom fonts, text size, colour and formatting (Bold, Italic, Underline & Strikethrough) • PNG images on the app no longer have the grey background that plagued the app for a long time • Collaboration via Messages or FaceTime. • You can now use your iPad’s passcode for note locking
My notes app takes 1% battery every 1 min.. This is too much even worse than watching youtube or playing high graphics game...isn't notes app very light app then why is it acting like a very high graphics required game...i even deleted it and reinstalled.. But still taking up so much battery.. Why.😭😭 I love apple notes i dnt wanna use any other app.. Plz help
As much as I want to like and use Apple Notes primarily (especially due to integration, it would make sense), I can't get away from Good Notes for one reason - and that is PDF annotation. In that regard sadly Apple Notes has no upper hand, as it cannot import PDF forms to anotate them, whereas GoodNotes does it with ease - there I can keep my entire e-office with all my documents. Though, I do wish Apple Notes would get better in that regard and include that option as well.
I’m with you on this. I’ve tried to enjoy Apple Notes. I end up right back in Goodnotes. GN just makes me happy. I have everything I need in there, and it’s so easy to maneuver. The PDF annotation is a must for me.
I agree on this point and have been trying Goodnotes daily. I like the record feature when needed and the fact that Goodnotes is testing a Windows app, bonus for me.
It's fine right up until you need to download pdf files out of apple notes to archive them. One at a time. No batch downloads. No drag and drop. If there is a solution to this, I can't find it. Eventually when you all need to free up space and you go to archive, you will run into this. It is a huge drawback and if I had known about this, I would never have started using it.
You will never convince me that Apple Notes is the best after the experience I had where they literally wipe out my entire notes sections and I could not get anything back.
Taking notes is capturing ideas. Ideas sometimes arrive at unexpected places. This is why capturing via dictation on the Apple Watch is essential for a note taking app. Drafts and Bear have had an Apple Watch dictation feature for years. Apple notes is falling behind and they own the hardware design.
Same reason I love it. When paired with iCloud, I can capture all my ideas on my phone when they pop into my head and then review them later on my iPad. I wish I would have had this app back when I was still working to capture my thoughts and record my finding in industry instead of writing them in a notebook.
After installing iPadOS 16.1 I noticed that the graphite pencil setting in Apple Notes has been replaced with a pen! How do we get the graphite pencil back?
I liked it, until I updated it to iPadOS 16. Now I can’t even use it for more than 30 minutes without my tablet burning up :\ This never happened before prior and even after I close the app and use other apps it starts to cool off. I was wondering if somebody can tell me if my issue is with the new update or tablet
Except, if you use a windows computer alongside an Apple phone and tablet. The iCloud Notes has a fraction of the functionality and you cannot even paste images via the web which makes it pretty much useless for so many use cases.
Fully agree! OneNote might be a good alternative, as soon Microsoft finally decides which version they'll keep improving. And hopefully add proper handwriting to text conversion on the iPad version too.
It is clear that for some functions and features of Apple Notes, Apple favors its own application, while harming third-party applications. This doesn't seem like fair game to me.
My friend, thank you for helping. This video is amazing and you do an incredible job explaining in details. It has helped me a lot. I send you a shower of blessings.
The only reason for me to not use it, is because I want the ability to wright in Dutch, but it sucks at translating/transcribing it! Just not working :(
Use the other pens ….they don’t have the big “A” on them : That one is specifically for turning handwriting to type. Open Tips. There’s a free manual at the bottom of the list.

@@andricheli Do you find Apple Notes to be better than something like Pocket for being a digital filing cabinet?
@@andricheli I exactly do the same. 👍
Tom is back! Great!
Great Video
How to use page break in apple notes ipad
Thank you for such a great video!
Impressive, I had no idea!
~ where can I find quick notes? Thanks!
Hey chief. Can we add an image. Write handwritten text on it. And then search on the text?
nice man now i can watch free stuff thanks on my android
very very nice video
Really well done. Thank you.
Hope this helps.
can you share a note to Calendar on apple where it links back to the note?
UpNote is the best note taking app in 2022!!!
It's great until it stops synching for some reason. Somehow my laptop is not updating my phone-based Notes.
I agree
try the Samsung tablet next
I have large notes and always or almost always I open a note it start's on top. I have large notes and is annoying always to scroll down at the end of the notes. It's possible to change it?
Great! ✨👏🏼
The best I like:
• Ink Pen in Handwritten Notes
• You can choose to straighten handwritten text (doesn’t always work perfectly)
• Everything’s organised by date by default
• Some features from Markup such as text boxes and shapes come to handwritten notes
• Apple Notes support custom fonts, text size, colour and formatting (Bold, Italic, Underline & Strikethrough)
• PNG images on the app no longer have the grey background that plagued the app for a long time
• Collaboration via Messages or FaceTime.
• You can now use your iPad’s passcode for note locking
Wow, I only just noticed the new pens! How cool!
Plz help
My biggest problem is just the amount of stuff I keep in Evernote. If there was an importer function I would switch.
it is a nice video man
As much as I want to like and use Apple Notes primarily (especially due to integration, it would make sense), I can't get away from Good Notes for one reason - and that is PDF annotation.
Odd. Mine can. But then I actually opened Tips and looked at the Manual.
Export to PDF option is broken in apple notes app.
I love apple note but I can’t understand why can’t we search for a folder in the search
It’s annoying!!!
Thanks
You are very welcome, Michel! 🙌
After installing iPadOS 16.1 I noticed that the graphite pencil setting in Apple Notes has been replaced with a pen! How do we get the graphite pencil back?
It should still be there! You just have to scroll across, there’s more options now too like a fountain and brush pen
Best. Just one problem: Apple lock-in.
You can simply drag pics into notes from the web … and that’s not even a new thing.
It is clear that for some functions and features of Apple Notes, Apple favors its own application, while harming third-party applications. This doesn't seem like fair game to me.
I would tone down on all the zooming/focusing in and out, its really distracting
My friend, thank you for helping. This video is amazing and you do an incredible job explaining in details. It has helped me a lot. I send you a shower of blessings.
Pro Tip: Use GoodNotes instead :)
It’s the absolute best note taking app for me.I do appreciate AN though.
I don't think so. The best for me is OneNote. I wish Notes will be because i use Apple, but is far behind. Apple put profit before Steve hart.
The only reason for me to not use it, is because I want the ability to wright in Dutch, but it sucks at translating/transcribing it! Just not working :(
Of course there’s support in German and Arabic, but none for Hebrew.
Why does my handwritten text turn to type? I hate that. How do I change that
Use the other pens ….they don’t have the big “A” on them : That one is specifically for turning handwriting to type. Open Tips. There’s a free manual at the bottom of the list.
No webclipper!
trying handwritten hashtags for me is a hit-or-miss experience - sometimes it works, most of the it doesn't
Same here. Can't understand why. I'm using an older Ipad Pro 10.5 which may explain?
There is no palm recognition in notes app. I find it nonsense to use with the pencil
My notes app takes 1% battery every 1 min.. I really enjoy Apple notes, but there is one thing that stops me using it and keeps me in Evernote. As far as I know, there’s no easy way to export my notes if I ever want to move away from Apple. Sadly, this is a deal breaker for me.
There're several apps that can export. 'Exporter' is one of them and can be found in the Mac AppStore.
