"there's not really much strategy to racing" - Strategy is seriously important in F1 and can make or break races for drivers. Knowing when to pit is important as there's an oppurtunity to undercut or overcut a driver. You also want to pit into clean air as well rather than coming back onto the track and having to fight your way back through backmarkers. Teams may also stay out for longer in the hope for a safety car (lose less time in pitstop). Theres a fine art to how much fuel is in an F1 car so stategy also plays a part in making sure you manage your fuel usage throughout the race. And the same can be said for tyres they need managing otherwise you'd rip them to shreds within a few laps. Strategy is massive and you don't have to look far to see good and bad examples of teams strategy.

Some would argue Ferrari would of had a much better chance of winning the championship last season had they have sorted out their stategy. Especially in the early stages of the season

Greetings. One of the reasons for the shorter F1 races is because the physical demand/strain on the pilots (drivers) is way, way, way higher than nascar. Not downplaying nascar, but the focus, concentration, reflexes needed coupled with dehydration, g-force endurance, and even the brute strenght needed to push the pedals is insane. Recommend looking at the training these guys need to endure to be able to drive.

NASCAR also run road courses....they aren't always driving in circles. This calls for a completely different setup on the cars. As for driving in circles all race, there are strategies, such as when to do pit stops and what suspension adjustments need to be made, not to out drive your tires and have to pit prematurely, and drafting. There is also a side draft. There is much more to NASCAR that this video never touched upon.

Comparing F1 to NASCAR is like comparing the NFL to community college football. One F1 team spends more in a one season than all NASCAR teams put together. And F1 would spend more if there was no spending cap somewhere around $250 million per year per team. NASCAR compares more favorably with Austratian Super Cars. Which is the where drive who won the Chicago NASCAR race as a rookie comes from.

Formula 1 has 4 engine suppliers and 4 teams who make their Engines in house.
Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault, and Red Bull.
Mercedes supplies engines for Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren, and Williams. Williams is a private team who farms young drivers for Mercedes such as George Russell from 2019-2021.
Ferrari supplies engines for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo (Soon to be Audi), and HAAS the only American Formula 1 team. Fact about HAAS, they sponsor the NASCAR Stewart-HAAS racing and HAAS is a CNC Machining company.
Renault supplies engines for only Alpine. Alpine is technically Renault until the name change in 2021 and used to supply teams like Red Bull, Torro Rosso (Newly AlphaTauri), Williams, and even McLaren.
Red Bull, ever since the 2021 season has made their own engines in Partnership with Honda engines. They make a joint operation named RBPT (Red Bull Power Trains) and with their Italian team, AlphaTauri, to promote Red Bull's fashion brand and to house their in house power trains. Fun fact, AlphaTauri Formerly Torro Rosso won a race before the Parent team, Sebastian Vettel won the 2008 Italian GP for Torro Rosso.
You also mentioned that Toyota was American. They're Japanese and even when they announced their entry into NASCAR in 2004 people in the states were skeptical. But now we don't give a shit. Also to mention that NASCAR used to have Pontiac, Dodge, Buick, Oldsmobile, Chrysler, and more have all supplied Chassis and Engines for NASCAR.

Some of the comments below I have to comment upon. F1 is a constructor's sport...best engineering dominates. NASCAR is a driver's sport....the cars are much more tightly regulated to put the differences in the driver side, not the engineering side. NASCAR also stops for tires much more frequently than F1. Tire management are important in both, but more so in NASCAR. Finally, the physicality is also different. Manhandling a car that weighs twice as much with less downforce in a heat environment much more severe than in an F1 car, along with being in there almost twice as long, IS in fact very physical. The two sports are both unique, and neither is "better" or "worse". They are just different.

  • @129673jh
    @129673jh Před rokem

There is much more to NASCAR than this video suggests. One example, there are 6 road courses on the schedule, not all tracks are oval. Pocono Raceway is triangular. Many tracks are fairly flat, while others have steep banking in the corners. Also, there are multiple levels of NASCAR across the country with local and regional circuits. The NASCAR Cup series is the Major League level within NASCAR while the lower circuits can be thought of as minor or farm league circuits that feed the upper level of racing. NASCAR is constantly designing and testing new technologies and many of these innovations eventually make it to production cars that people buy. In the old days, the cars being raced were cars you could actually buy from the dealership, make a few modifications, and then race them. That's where the name "STOCK" came from, these were stock cars bought from the dealership. The old saying in the sport was, "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" meaning is someone saw a Ford win on Sunday, there would be people who wanted to buy one on Monday. (Hence, why until the last 15 or so years, all the cars were from the Big Three US Automakers, Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler. Today, it's only Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota in the series. F1 racing is a completely different sport than NASCAR with a completely different following and target audience.

The undercutting description is highly inaccurate. Undercutting is simply pitting earlier than your competitors and using new fresh tyres which could be up to 2-3 seconds a lap faster to leapfrog the competition. It has nothing to do with soft or hard rubber compounds like this video would have you believe. While undercutting can be advantageous you could also do the opposite and overcut which is staying on a old set of tyres for longer giving up time in the process to gain a tyre performance advantage over your competitors for as long as you stay on the next set.

@@JacKnife3705 The Keselowskis sent an '07 series Stratus cup car to Bonneville Speed Week with an unrestricted engine, gearing changes, and some aero tweaks (hubcaps. Literally.) and pulled over 270mph out of it. You'll never see anything much over 210mph top speeds (not average) on any track ever again though, because it's not safe for the *fans*.

Another observation is that although Nascar races are longer with more laps, most of their race tracks are of a circular shapes so the race cars just keep going around in circles with very few exception (street circuits) so as a European this is very boring. Whereas F1 is much more excited with all the twist and turns. Also too there is much more strategies in an F1 race than Nascar. Another thing is an F1 driver have much more work load than a Nascar driver, just look at the amount of knobs and switches on an F1 car steering wheel, it's insane, about 30.

9 F1 races each seasons its a lie, I mean, when F1 started in the 50's, there was only 8 races, slowly adding more and more over the years, this year 2023 was supposed to be a 24-race season, but China was cancelled bue to COVID19 regulations, and Italy's EmiliaRomagna was canceled due to extreme raining conditions and there were floodings.
And..., Nascar its veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery different from F1, we cant compare both of them, You should look for Indycar vs F1, thats a pretty direct comparison
