GIGABYTE Gaming OC 4090 | Black Screen Fans 100% Crash

  • Been going crazy over the past month dealing with my system randomly crashing as seen in the video. For context, I built this system back in February of this year and had no problems up until the end of September. I went on vacation for 5 days and when I returned, these issues began.
I know a lot of theories that were floating around earlier this year were pointing to 3rd party power cables (Corsair, CableMod, etc.), however I am NOT currently using any 3rd party cables. I am using the stock NVidia octopus adapter and stock power supply cables.
    My system specs:
    OS: Windows 11
MOBO: GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS Elite AX (Rev 1.0, F9 BIOS)
GPU: GIGABYTE Gaming OC 4090 (F2 VBIOS)
    CPU: Intel i7 13700k
CPU cooler: Corsair iCue H150i AIO
    DRAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2x16) 5600 MT/s
SSD: Samsung 980 PRO 2 TB
    PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA GT 1000W
Things I've tried (forgive me if I forget to mention something) and crashing persists:
    - Updating video card drivers
    - DDU and reinstall of video card drivers
    - Updating MOBO BIOS
    - Downloading all latest available chipset drivers on GIGABYTE website
    - Disabling XMP
    - No overclocks (CPU, GPU)
    - Removing Cablemod 180 degree 12VHPWR adapter
    - Reseating GPU
    - Reseating riser
    - Repasting CPU (used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and did drop a few C, would recommend)
    - Replacing PSU with EVGA SUPERNOVA GT 1300W
    - Booting into safe mode and still crashing (just discovered this today as in the video!!!!!)
    - Installing the awful GCC software
    - Uninstalling the awful GCC software
    - RMA'ing the video card (yup, they claimed there was nothing wrong with it, making me wonder if its the MOBO)
    - Using different DP outputs on the card
    - Using CPU integrated graphics with GPU still plugged into system (this usually results in BSODs with WHEA errors)
I may have missed some mentions, but I have awful memory and dealing with this has given me brain rot.
Some other notes, system temperatures do not report anything ridiculous. GPU hot spot never exceeds upper 80's, CPU can run in the mid 90's at stock with Cinebench R23 (undervolt can bring this temp way down), DRAM temps normal, no crazy temps on board.
I am currently waiting for more feedback from GIGABYTE which I submitted several days ago. Currently have my 4090 pulled from my system so I can at least use it. I have an old EVGA 1080 FTW that I used while the card was being RMA'd and my system never crashed, nor does it crash when I use integrated graphics.
Anyways, I'm mostly posting this so I have video evidence to send to GIGABYTE, but also for anyone experiencing some similar symptoms, at least know you're not alone. Misery loves company right?

Update: Turned out to be the power cable to the GPU, most likely the sense pins. Was using the nvidia octopus adapter with 4 dedicated PCIE cables from the PSU. Finally got my CableMod cable and 180 degree adapter and problem has disappeared since.
Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions and best of luck to those of you struggling with this issue!
Edit: For those asking, this is the specific cable I bought from CableMod. Make sure you double check compatibility with your PSU as not all are created equal!

Going through the same thing right now with mine. I plan on getting the Corsair 12VHPWR adapter from Microcenter to see if that fixes my issue. I was going to buy a new PSU, but seeing as the cable is compatible with mine, it's better to spend the $30 than $300 for a new PSU. If that fails, I'll have to try RMAing my card. I've tried everything else (Windows install, DDU drivers and redo drivers, update BIOS, etc.). It only seems to happen when gaming. It never happens during anything else, so it seems like sometimes games hit a power "spike" that cause the issue. I can go months without the issue, or just a few days. It seems like several folks in here have fixed their issue just by swapping cables.

Before doing a full reinstall run DDU uninstaller looks like you have enough time to run it before it crashes. In DDU I recommend the reboot option and then see if it still crashes with the default windows drivers then you might have a card issue.

I got the ROG Strix 1000W Gold Aura Edition and used the cable that came with that. It seemed like a great cable but not very robust. The issue for me might be the fact that I have pulled it out a good few times while changing/checking stuff, and I have a feeling one of the sense pins is loose. I have had this black screen+100% fans twice in the past month. Once with heavy gaming and once on CZcams.
I am waiting on the new Cablemod cable with stealth sense (silly name) that gets around the use of sense pins. From what I hear, it fixes most of the issues.

my GPU dont use cable is just the slot on the motherboard, matbe the slot is damaged or something?
I have tried everything, uptade drivers on monitor, gpu, change energy font, change the place i plug the PC, clean it, clean RAMS, clean board, change cooling gel on GPU and CPU (those silver ones). Rebooted Windows and the problems still happens, and seems to be random. Sometimes on Firefox, sometimes on Photoshop, sometimes it lasts for hours and sometimes is 10minutes. Crazy to understand where the problem is.
I have been to the device maneger >> Gpu >> and that stuuf that makes the gpu restart with not having a good perfiormance (forgot the name now)
Im gonna change SATA cables and maybe HDMI brand new cables.

So far the fix for me was enabling the "Secure Boot" option in the BIOS. Mine was disabled and causing an error (ID 1796) on Event Viewer. Apparently that error can cause crashes but since enabling I've been good. I've been playing games and used FurMark to stress test my gpu (MSI 4070 TI) and I've been good so far. It's only been 30hrs so far though since last black screen full fans crash.

      @sopasty  Před 25 dny

When I was dealing with this, I sent my card in for warranty. Gigabyte stress tested it for about a day, nothing wrong with the card itself. My issue was with the nvidia power adapter. I have since purchased a cablemod power cable for my EVGA power supply that goes straight from PSU to GPU, no issues since. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

@@sopasty so you have an ATX 3.0 power supply and you have the original 12+4 cable to the power supply, but you bought an adapter and you plugged the adapter through the 8-pin cables to the power supply? Am I understanding this correctly?
