Same Day: NUP, RCC Unveil
The National Unity Platform party secretariat on Saturday stormed Lira City to unveil their party candidate for Oyam North byelection. Led by the Party secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya NUP unveiled Daniel Okello as their party flag bearer.
This however, happened shortly after the city security head had just left the city for his much anticipated Lango traditional marriage in Dokolo district.

Saturday morning, head of the City’s security RCC Lawrence Egole left the city for his traditional marriage in Dokolo district.

In the Lango tradition the event is called “Tweyo Nyom”

“Tweyo Nyom” is a traditional marriage ceremony that a couple must go through before the wedding. During the event, the groom-to-be pays bride price and other traditional requirements requested for by the fiancée’s parents or relatives.

The colorful ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the health minister, government chief whip, head of RDCs among others.
Interestingly, as the security head of lira enjoys the day with her hubby, NUP secretariat preferred the same day for unveiling their candidate for the forthcoming Oyam North byelection.

At their Lira Office in Junior quarters, Daniel Okello was unveiled as the party’s flag bearer. Okello’s victory followed a rigorous vetting of three contenders by the party’s electoral Commission. The two pledged support to the victor.
With only days left to the nomination date on 19th, NUP becomes the third party to reveal their flag bearer after UPC and FDC. For NRM, 10 people were nominated including the former minister’s son Samuel Engola, Economist Queen Dorothy, Radio journalist Billie Otoo among others.
Electoral commission has gazette 6th July as the polling day to replace the former MP and minister for Labor who was gunned down by his body guard Wilson sabiti on 2nd May this year. End
