    After spending a few days dispersed camping outside Ash Fork Arizona, I decided to move on. The weather report was showing rain and snow in the forecast. And the overnight temperatures were going to drop down into the low 20°s. So it seemed like a good time to move on and find a warmer area. After looking at the options, I decided Prescott would make a good destination.

    My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
    Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
    Please follow along as I document my journey.

    The Kaibab and Coconino National Forests, a bit farther north and east of Prescott, have more options for dispersed camping and generally allow full 14 day stays. Things still kinda cold at night up high, but should be warming soon as Spring progresses. Prescott National Forest has had problems in the past with overcrowding and people trashing the campsites, drugs, crime, etc, so that’s why things are pretty locked down there.

    Great video, Scott! You're not far from a friend's cabin. My friend built a three story cabin and the views from his cabin are amazing. I always loved the Prescott National Forest (PNF). Highway 89 was my favorite motorcycle ride all the way up to Flagstaff. There are many dispersed camping sites along the highway and I used my motorcycle to find beautiful hidden spots. There is van life community in Cottonwood but I've never been to it. Bob Wells did a vlog on it some years ago. Fort Tuthill is located near the fairgrounds just south of "Flag" on 89A. We dispersed camp there if we didn't rent a cabin on Tuthill. Fort Tuthill was a military resort of sorts.

    I realize I sure do like the 'day in a life of" videos. Thanks for this vid!
    Yesterday I was watching your 5-year anniversary video from last year. I'm really interested in the van. I can't decide whether to get a compact cargo van, a minivan, or a suburban, and I was interested in your decisions regarding passibility and terrain and weather. In general, have you been satisfied with where the van can get you? Can you get seriously heavy-duty tire for those? I've been eye-balling the Nissan, but I hear that although they've moved away from proprietary tires (thank goodness), the tires available aren't great.
    Any particular repairs common with the Dodge?
    There ain't no place like a PNW forest!...but I do like to see the videos in desert areas. I've never been, and I guess I probably will hold off coming down from Canada until the restrictions and/or testing lighten up a bit more.

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  Před 2 lety +2

      These Ram ProMaster City cargo vans are pretty versatile vehicles. If you look back through my videos you can watch a couple of videos about a major engine problem with some of these vans.
      All in all, I’ve been very happy with my van. If you’re looking to do serious off-roading, there will need to be modifications made not just tires.
      I don’t recommend the Nissan as they have had major transmission problems. They also have a very small payload capacity as evidenced by the tiny tires. The Nissan was designed as a city delivery vehicle.

    The chili looks delicious. I'll make that soon. I thought you couldn't make chili without dill, and I never have dill and kind of don't think I like it so much anyway, so I never make chili.

      @@StaticCamperVan I think dill is supposed to give chili its signature taste. But it is a pretty heavy spice. I just made something like your version and loved it. It's lighter. Can't believe I haven't been taking advantage of this nice dish in the past.

      Wait I'm wrong, it's cumin that is the signature taste for chili, not dill. Sorry bout that.

    I dont know the specifics of your health challenges but i gather part of them are gastro related. My friend has some problems as well and started eating Kimchi it's a vegan version without fish in it . After two weeks on it his long time symptoms are starting to subside.

    I have followed you for years, but has not seen all of your content, unfortunately, so I have no doubt you have answered this question before, but; I do understand you can't have a lot of food with you at all time due to limited storage space, but for how long do you think you in general can live of what you got in your van without shopping for more food? I am guessing a week?
